Is it really September already? I cannot believe it's Labor Day weekend and the Summer is drawing to a close. Before we start focusing on the films coming to theaters this Fall, though, let's cast a look back at the dog days of Summer and the movies that came with them (and made this season a box office record-breaker).

Major audience hits The Hangover and Up have been in theaters for a few weeks now, but they both continue to draw in the masses. Now with the opening of the rom-com The Proposal and the Jack Black/Michael Cera comedy Year One, our options are expanding. What will you seek out at the theaters this weekend?

Soon the days will be getting shorter and the Fall movies will hit theaters, but I wanted to reflect on this Summer's movie season one last time. Even though at times it felt like there was one major blockbuster after another out each weekend and records were smashed, it turns out the box office totals were just below last year's — and it could have been lower if not for the major success of The Dark Knight.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, "The Dark Knight phenomenon well compensated for one fewer $300 million-plus domestic performance compared with last Summer, when four films surpassed that milestone."

This summer was much better for the big comedies and the big action flicks (as is usually the case), but there were a few dramatic gems thrown in there, too. Which of this summer's dramas was your favorite?

There are an awful lot of people looking forward to seeing the new Hairspray movie this weekend, but can they rival the die-hard Harry Potter fans going to see The Order of the Phoenix for second, third, fourth or fifth times? What do you think? Which of these battling summer flicks will take the crown as No.

The upcoming fantasy movie Stardust first caught my eye because of the stellar cast (Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert DeNiro, Peter O'Toole, Ricky Gervais, and many others), and because of the whimsical atmosphere conveyed in the trailer. Knowing it's based on a Neil Gaiman novel only makes me more interested in the movie, which opens August 10.
Having posted a few things about the movie, I know some of you are major Gaiman fans or are otherwise seriously anticipating the film.
