Tobey Maguire, Sam Raimi Ready For Two Spidey Sequels

Get ready for Spider-Man to weave his blockbuster web at least two more times. The talk of more Spidey sequels started right after Spider-Man 3's big opening weekend last Summer, and now there's news that Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire are about to commit to two more films.

Though The Dark Knight broke Spider-Man's box office records this Summer, the Hollywood Reporter notes that Spider-Man is still the most profitable movie franchise for Sony, with the first three films combining for a total of $2.5 billion worldwide.

There were some rumors a while back that Maguire might not return for another sequel, though a Sony spokesman said, "Tobey was our only choice and the only person we've discussed the role with." He'll have some time off before getting back into the Spidey suit: The current plan is for the first sequel, written by James Vanderbilt of Zodiac, to start filming in the Fall of 2009. The movies might film back-to-back, Lord of the Rings-style, with Spider-Man 4 hitting theaters in May 2011.

Still up in the air:

Whether Kirsten Dunst will be back as Mary Jane.
Whether any other actors will reprise their roles.
What villains will appear in the next two films.

Most of you weren't exactly thrilled at the prospect of more Spidey, so I'm wondering: What, if anything, would get you back to the theater for a fourth (and fifth) Spider-Man?

Buzz In: Which Movies Have You Seen Multiple Times in the Theater?

And no, multiple viewings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show doesn't really count. I'm talking about the movies that so captivated your imagination you just had to go back for more. Or the movies that were such a fun event, you piggiebacked along with different friends and family members to keep the party going all weekend.

Just this past weekend, I know there were plenty of girls' nights out. . . and then girls' afternoons out and girls' Sunday evenings out for the Sex and the City movie. When the first Spider-Man came out, I couldn't get enough and may have seen it four times in the theater. I've also heard some mom friends talk about how many times they escorted their kids to Enchanted over the holidays. And um, I might have known someone, who - ahem! - may have seen The Cutting Edge several times in the theater when it came out in 1992.

Do You Want to See More Spider-Man Movies?

Despite some mixed reactions to the third Spider-Man movie, the film did extremely well at the box office and we've known for a while that Sony is interested in continuing the franchise. Now there's confirmation that the studio is moving forward in the planning of the fourth film, though they apparently "have some decisions to make" in regard to casting.

How do you feel about more Spider-Man movies? Do you like that they're making more Spidey stories? Or are you tired of this superhero?

Today's holiday gift guide has some ideas for the too-cool-for-school teen guys on your list.

For the guy who owns countless Spider-Man comics, has his figurines poised for action around his bedroom and breathlessly awaited this summer's third installment of the series, check out this DVD triology which includes Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3.

Though The Golden Compass comes out right around holiday season, hopefully the young lads in your life will still want to read the Philip Pullman book on which the movie is based. Also, if seeing the film version of The Golden Compass whets his appetite, there are two other books in the His Dark Materials trilogy for him to check out.

The new Guitar Hero III, available for a variety of video game systems, would be perfect for any wannabe rocker on your list. The game rates you as you play along with more than 70 rock anthems, from "Rock and Roll All Nite" to "Barracuda."

And any fan of the Dillon Panthers of Friday Night Lights would look great sporting a Panther Football shirt from NBC, as worn by star player Tim Riggins. (His jersey is also available.)

Soapbox: Enough With the Sequels Already!

Giddy from their record-breaking first weekend, the producers and studio execs behind Spider-Man 3 are falling over themselves with news and ideas for the next Spidey installments. Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chair Amy Pascal is claiming that "There'll be a fourth and a fifth and sixth and a seventh," and that "As many stories as Peter Parker has to tell, we'll do sequels." There are already rumors flying around about the villains that will be included in Spidey's fourth chapter: According to Cinematical, Spider-Man will have to face off with a man-sized lizard (called Lizard) along with Carnage the serial killer.

Sure, this sounds intriguing, but I'm still exhausted from this year's Spider-Man movie and the relentless onslaught of promotion that led up to its release. After this year they'll probably have to up the ante even more in that regard, which is virtually unfathomable. Also riding the sequel train is the Shrek series, the fourth of which may have just found a director. So, there's already buzz around a fourth movie when the third hasn't even hit theaters yet. Take a breather, guys!

It gets tiring watching the same old characters year after year, regardless of what they're doing or how they're doing it. It even gets tiring for the people who play the same old characters, as Keria Knightley recently admitted. After the third Pirates of the Caribbean movie, she's just tired of doing it. Heck, I'm tired of her doing it! Enough is enough.

Sticking to something that has proven successful in the past makes sense sometimes, but there has to be a saturation point someday... right? What happened to original scripts? I want fresh faces and new characters!

Which Actress Should Play The Black Cat in Spider-Man 4?

The rumor mill keeps churning about Spider-Man 4. Let's recap: First, word spread that Rachel McAdams would be playing new villain Felicia Hardy, aka The Black Cat in the fourquel - hearsay which McAdams later denied. Earlier this week Julia Stiles's name started floating around instead. And now Anne Hathaway is the latest to be added to the running.

Hathaway and Spidey seem like a solid pairing - she'll up the A-list wattage of the film, and I think a superhero blockbuster would be a nice addition to her resume. But what about Stiles? She's been in the Jason Bourne series, so she does have the experience of working on a mega franchise. Still, I just can't imagine her busting chops and throwing around kicks like Hathaway.

Neither actress is even confirmed yet, which means other ladies could still step into the roles! Let's discuss who you would like to see take on The Black Cat part -Stiles, Hathaway, or do you have another actress that you would cast?

Can You See Rachel McAdams as a Villain?

I've been waiting for some kind of casting update on Spider-Man 4 for a while now, and this week rumors are flying about the franchise's newest bad guys. There have been whispers that the next film may feature two villains (male and female), and that Rachel McAdams is in talks to play Felicia Hardy, aka The Black Cat.

Nothing has been confirmed yet, but I like the sound of this news; I'm a big fan of McAdams and I think she's too often pigeonholed into playing the nice girl (except for Regina George, obviously). What do you think - can you see McAdams as a villain, or do that big smile and dimples belong somewhere else (like on a new love interest for Peter Parker)?

Box Office: New Moon Overshadows the Competition

New Moon madness translated to big bucks for the Twilight sequel: After it set new records for midnight ticket sales and single-day ticket sales, it was obvious it would rule the weekend box office at number one. And how: the movie pulled in $140.7 million, clocking it at the third biggest opening weekend ever, behind The Dark Knight and Spider-Man 3.

What trailed New Moon? I was pleasantly surprised to see heartwarming drama The Blind Side in second, earning a respectable $34.5 million and beating last week's box office ruler, 2012, which was No. 3 with $26.5 million. At No. 4 was animated adventure Planet 51 with $12.6 million, followed by A Christmas Carol with $12.2 million.

Adrien Brody and Topher Grace to Take on Predators

While it's not a shock that Fox is rebooting yet another franchise with the upcoming Predators - the casting is kind of surprising: Oscar-winner Adrien Brody has signed on for the movie, and Topher Grace is in talks to star as well.

Robert Rodriguez's Predators is quite the departure for Brody, usually seen in moving dramas like his award-winning role in the The Pianist and quirky comedies like last year's The Brothers Bloom. Grace isn't a stranger to action adventure, though, since he starred as villain Venom in Spider-Man 3. I just have to laugh at the fact that Arnold Schwarzenegger is the star of the original film - so far, it seems like Rodriguez doesn't have the same need for beefy actors in his own hunt for aliens.
