In the age of DVR and fast-forward, watching commercials during a broadcast is almost always optional. Unless, of course, you're attempting to watch a video online and can't get around the inevitable ads before the content. (Someone's gotta pay the bills, right?)

Last night, Conan O'Brien poked fun at the ads that run before videos, teasing a video of President Obama, then becoming increasingly discouraged by advertisements that seemed to get longer and longer. Recently released online video statistics show that Facebook is now the third-largest video site on the Internet, behind Google sites (including YouTube) and Yahoo sites. Facebook showed videos to an impressive 46.6 million viewers in July, up 3.6 million from the month prior.

YouTube Partnering With Sundance to Rent Festival Faves

Starting on Friday, you won't need to go to the video store to pick up the latest Sundance Festival favorites. Instead, you can point your browser to YouTube. Announced today, YouTube has partnered up with the SFF, and will be offering five popular festival favorites until Jan. 31 for $4 a pop. Independent filmmakers can join in on the action during YouTube's "Filmmakers Wanted" campaign to stream their films online, while still keeping their copyrights and naming their own rental price. YouTube also says they'll be reaching out to other industries in the coming weeks to offer this streaming option, which should inevitably lead to them taking a bigger piece of iTunes and Amazon's online rental pie.

Camden County Wants to "Free Earl"

When Earl Hickey was sent to jail on the season finale of "My Name is Earl" last spring, what were the good people of Camden County to do? Why, they gathered to make a "We Are the World"-style music video pleading for Earl's release, that's what.

The video, which promotes the Sept. 27 season premiere of the show, features the whole "Earl" cast belting out the reasons Earl should be set free (best one: "he's our karma guy"). Go Behind The Scenes with "The Office" Blooper Reel

In case you've ever suspected the set of "The Office" might be the most fun place to work, here's some more fuel for the fire: the bloopers from the show's third season. Most, unsurprisingly, feature Steve Carell in character as Michael Scott, but there are some great Rainn Wilson moments, too. Among the other revelations: Jenna Fischer sneezes a lot, Ed Helms couldn't remember that Andy was his character's name, and Mindy Kaling may or may not know which celebrity baby is Suri and which is Shiloh. Hilarious Fake Commercials for "Big Love"

While I was searching for those "Big Love" back story clips last week, I came across a couple of hysterical fake commercials HBO produced to promote the show's second season. Like the commercials for cremation shakers and fake skin in the first episode of "Six Feet Under," these false ads promote products that would make your life as a polygamist better.

The first, for "Eau de Polygamie," promotes a fragrance that will let you "set yourself apart from all his other wives." It's funny, but I don't think it's nearly as good as the spot for "Polygarol," a Viagra-type pill that promises to make sure the man has energy to take care of all his wives on "their night." I love how it copies every convention of Viagra ads, right down to the guy throwing a football through a tire - only this time, it's three tires. To check out the ads for yourself,

All Steve Carell, All The Time

You know I love Steve Carell, whether he's getting his chest waxed or wearing a woman's suit. If you're a fan, too, you might want to head over to Steve Almighty, a special section on NBC's DotComedy site where a new Steve clip will be posted every day through June 22, the release date for Carell's new movie, Evan Almighty.

So far, the site includes deleted scenes from The 40-Year-Old Virgin, clips from "The Office" and "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," Carell's acceptance speech from the Golden Globes, and several interviews. (There's nothing yet from "The Daily Show" or "Little Miss Sunshine," but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.)

I'm still generally wary of Evan Almighty, but I have to admit, any promotion that gets me a vintage "Ambiguously Gay Duo" clip is just fine by me.

Check Out Michael Cera's New Web Comedy

By now you know I love Michael Cera, aka George Michael Bluth from "Arrested Development." In addition to starring in this summer's Superbad, the 18-year-old has teamed up with his friend Clark Duke for Clark and Michael, an online-only Web comedy for CBS.

The first short episode went online this week, and it's pretty good - very dry humor in the style of "Arrested Development" or some of the wackier Comedy Central shows of recent years. The show is styled as a documentary about two young Hollywood wannabes trying to sell their first script, acting savvy but really having no clue what they're doing. Clark and Michael have roped some older, wiser comedic actors into the project, as well: The first episode has cameos by Tony "Buster Bluth" Hale and Comedy Central regular Eric Wareheim.

New episodes will go up every Wednesday until, as Clark and Michael wrote on their MySpace page, they run out of episodes. Fair enough. If you check it out, let me know what you think.
