Are These TV Shows the "New Classics"?

If you like lists, you should really check out the current issue of Entertainment Weekly, which has tons of No. 1s to debate as they break down the "new classics" in various fields of entertainment. The issue names the best movies, TV shows, movie posters, books, and even theme songs of the past 25 years - an overwhelming amount of information, but also a great read.

I got especially sucked into their list of the 100 New Classic TV Shows. It's pretty impressive that they managed to cover the whole pop-culture spectrum, from high-brow (The Sopranos, The Wire) to low-brow (The Osbournes). Even Saved by the Bell got a spot, albeit the final spot. My main quibbles are with placement: 30 Rock above The Office? Dawson's Creek all the way down at No. 90?

I'm curious to hear your thoughts on this list, especially because - unlike, say, the AFI movie lists - these are all shows that have actually been on the air in my lifetime. What would you change or move? Is anything missing entirely? Check out the full list, or to see the top 25, just

What do you get when you sandwich a classic red polish in between a deep, rich brown, and a heady black-brown? Why, the ultimate trifecta of cool nail polish palettes, of course. At Costello Tagliapietra's New York Fashion Week Fall 2012 show, models donned manicures featuring a clever "stacking" of three different richly hued shades: Essie's Carry On, followed by Bordeaux, and Little Brown Dress, respectively.

The result was "beautiful, elegant, and warm," according to Essie founder Essie Weingarten (for Beauty.com), who also recommends experimenting with mixing and matching the above colors to create your own unique formulation. 10 Crosby Fall 2012

Derek Lam's new venture, 10 Crosby, has fulfilled its cool-girl status for Fall '12. The third collection from the line, 10 Crosby showed plenty of bold prints, sharp tailoring, and just the right amount of femininity to please every downtown girl. Inspired by the classic holiday flick Home Alone, Lam and design director Liz Giardina envisioned what the 10 Crosby girl would wear on a snowy Winter day. With that thought in mind, the two created silky printed palazzo pants, cozy peplum cardigans, fox-fur vests, and pajama-inspired tops tempered with tailored poplin shirt dresses and sharp trousers. Steven Alan Fall 2012

Our New York Fashion Week kickoff began this morning with Steven Alan. For Fall, the designer showed another batch of covetable casual-cum-cool offerings pairing his signature modern classic style with a bold touch of Mexican and folk influence. Full red skirts were paired with riding jackets and fedora hats and structured striped wool vests with slightly flared pants, and there was even a cute vintage-inspired tweed jumpsuit styled with a button-up blouse and cardigan. For a soft touch, the designer also supplied sweet peplum-embellished floral and striped dresses, plaid shirt dresses, and, for a little shine, black and gold brocade dresses and trousers. The Giants may have won the big game, but the verdict on Madonna's Super Bowl halftime show is still out. The Material Girl took to the field in a Viking-like headdress and costume to revisit some of her biggest hits, like "Vogue" and "Music," while interacting with some impressive Cirque du Soleil performers, LMFAO, and Cee Lo Green. The set was a mix of old and new, since she topped it off with new single "Give Me All Your Luvin'" alongside Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. I thought it was a fun enough show for fans of Madonna, but I was hoping for something a little more explosive - after all, this woman has never been afraid to take risks. Kirsten Dunst and Garrett Hedlund Couple Up For a Bike Ride

Kirsten Dunst and Garrett Hedlund took to their bikes for a ride near her LA home yesterday. They practically matched in their gray sweats, but the outing wasn't all about exercising - Kirsten also put posters up to publicize her cat's disappearance. Kirsten and Garrett are together in California after spending a few days last month in Utah. They headed to Park City for the Sundance Film Festival premiere of Bachelorette, Kirsten's new dark comedy with Isla Fisher, Lizzy Caplan, and James Marsden. Garrett skipped the red carpet, but he and Kirsten were seen getting close at the afterparty. It seems the couple got together at some point last year after meeting on the set of On the Road. Both Kirsten and Garrett star in the big screen adaptation of the classic Kerouac novel, which also features Kristen Stewart and Tom Sturridge.
