What Should Have Been the Title for Made of Honor?

Just today, Cinematical pondered a question I've been asking myself a lot lately: What could the title Made of Honor possibly mean?

As a pun on the term "maid of honor" (which is what Michelle Monaghan's character asks Patrick Dempsey's character to be in the movie), it doesn't actually work. As Cinematical points out, "a pun usually involves conflating two words or expressions that make sense in the same context and happen to sound alike. In this case, I only count one." Having seen the movie, the writer is more confounded because the use of "made" is never explained (i.e., it's not the character's last name or anything), and Dempsey's character is never really made out to be "honorable" at all.

So, I asked around. Anyone know why it's titled Made of Honor? Anyone? Beuller? No. A friend of mine joked that they named it Made of Honor because My Best Friend's Wedding was already taken. Ha! (It's funny because the premise of both movies appears to be exactly the same with just a gender reversal.) So tell me: what else could they have titled Made of Honor? I thought of a few to get the brainstorming started, so to see what I thought of and to add your own ideas,

Jane Krakowski Says Jenna Would Play Anastasia in Fifty Shades of Grey

30 Rock's season finale aired last week, and it's official that the next season will be its last. We caught up with Jane Krakowski, who plays Jenna Maroney, the narcissistic actress engaged to her male impersonator. In addition to her work on 30 Rock, Jane's using her comedic talent for Best Night Ever, an upcoming vignette series for NBC. She'll star alongside Andy Cohen and Giuliana Rancic. We had a chance to talk to Jane, and she reflected on what she's learned from 30 Rock and even took a guess at what Jenna would make of the Fifty Shades of Grey phenomenon. Read on.

TrèsSugar: The S&M erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey is a bestseller and being made into a movie. Do you think Jenna would find it tame?
Jane Krakowski: I'm sure Jenna is buying the rights already to play the role. Everybody's reading that book. I haven't read it yet, but I see it in everyone's hands.

TS: Have you learned anything from your 30 Rock character over the years?
JK: I think my big lesson is to probably not do anything that Jenna does. So whatever she does, do the opposite. You might be better off. But that's the fun part about playing someone like her. You can be as outrageous as possible and get away with it within our structure that is TGS and 30 Rock, so there are so many things that the character has done over the seasons where I'm like, "Really? Are you sure we're going to be able to do this and get away with this?" And in that world and the blanket that is Tina Fey's genius it always seems to be alright. I will trust her wherever she sends me.

TS: Who is your favorite couple on the show?
JK: Well of course I'm thrilled Jenna has taken one step toward being humane by getting engaged. Although, Paul being a wonderful man it's (still) the most narcissistic wedding that could possibly happen, because she's marrying a male impersonator of her. I've always enjoyed Liz Lemon's relationships. I loved when Michael Sheen was on the show. I really adored him. I think her current relationship with the character of Criss is really a great one.

TS: In your latest role in NBC's TV vignettes series titled Best Night Ever, you play a tarot card reader. What would you hope the cards hold for Jenna?
JK: Wow. I sort of wish the tarot card reader would tell me that 30 Rock is not ending after 13 episodes next season. We found out that it's official that we're only going to be doing 13 more. It's been the greatest experience.

Cannes Minireview: Killing Them Softly

Brad Pitt's gritty new project, Killing Them Softly (formerly titled Cogan's Trade, and based on a book of the same name), made its debut to the press at the Cannes Film Festival this morning. Considering the early hour of the screening and just how violent and drug-fueled it is as a film, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it overall. Pitt is at his best playing the ruthless assassin, and James Gandolfini can, of course, carry a mob movie.

Who's behind it? Like Sapphires and Lawless, it's another The Weinstein Company film here at the festival. Writer-director Andrew Dominik brings together an excellent cast of men to tell his story, including Ray Liotta in addition to Pitt and Gandolfini. With that much testosterone on screen, there's not much room for the ladies. In fact, there's barely a female to be seen in the film at all. At the center, there are two bumbling thieves, played by Scoot McNairy and Ben Mendelsohn, who shine in their own deeply messed-up ways - often seen sweating and using drugs. Pitt, who we have seen playing a ruthless assassin before, does it again, this time with slicked-back hair and a cigarette dangling from his mouth as he explains his preferred method of murder - "killing them softly," rather than listening to them plead.
What's it about? On paper, it's about a heist at a mob poker game gone wrong, but as both the director and Pitt spoke at the film's press conference after the screening, it's a much larger commentary on America's capitalist society. It's set in New Orleans against the backdrop of the 2008 financial crisis and election, with actual speeches from Barack Obama and Sarah Palin sprinkled throughout. As for the actual heist at stake, Frankie and Russell (McNairy and Mendelsohn) rob a poker game that was previously hit up as part of a scam put on by its own owner, Andrew (Liotta). Pitt's character, Jackie Cogan, is brought in by the larger mob bosses to assassinate the men. Wires are quickly crossed and it can be hard to tell who is working for whom, but with the crazy visuals and hilarious, sometimes unsettling, one-liners, it is a riveting watch. I, for one, was particularly amused by the scenes about Russell running a racket by stealing purebred dogs.
More important even than the story, however, is the feel of the film. It takes place and was shot in New Orleans, a city which Pitt is clearly comfortable in. It's not quite a love letter to the city - or to anything for that matter - like The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, but it still has that uniquely gritty and stylized New Orleans feel.

What did I think? The performances, especially by Gandolfini, could start award-season buzz, depending on how and when Killing Them Softly is released stateside. While the film is not for the faint of heart, it's a thought-provoking watch. The humor and political commentary keep it from being a straightforward mob movie, therefore setting it apart from being the same story we've seen 100 times before. Plus, Pitt's swagger, Gandolfini's monologue expertise, and a pack of dogs are welcome at any movie for me. Watch out for the last line, though, it will stick with you.

Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Add a Peabody Award to Their Trophy Case

Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan were among the honorees at yesterday's 71st Peabody Awards in NYC. The pair happily accepted the bronze award on behalf of the groundbreaking documentary they produced, Earth Made of Glass. Backstage during the show, Jenna talked to reporters about the film, saying, "It's nice to be recognized for a project that we feel we're really proud of . . . I think it has a great message, and it's nice just to get that awareness out."

This could be the first of many trophies for Channing this year. In addition to six Teen Choice nominations for his work in The Vow and 21 Jump Street, he's also up for multiple MTV Movie Award nominations including best kiss, best male performance, best fight, and best cast. Channing's hot body is also getting lots of recognition in the latest Magic Mike trailer. His hot dance moves and shirtless scenes are a hit with fans, and he's quickly rising the ranks in this year's PopSugar 100. Channing's a true contender to capture the title, though he's going to have to unseat Robert Pattinson if he wants to win. Skyfall Teaser: Daniel Craig Is Back Again as Bond

Ready or not, James Bond is back! The first teaser for Skyfall is here, and while there's only a small bit of dialogue and not a lot of hints about the plot (though a word association game makes it sound like the title "Skyfall" is a mission that Bond has no problem completing), there is enough of star Daniel Craig looking slick and sexy to get me excited about this installment.

The ominous music and images we do see - including a shadowy figure I'm assuming is the villain played by Javier Bardem - make Skyfall seem more intense and high-stakes than the last film, Quantum of Solace. That's good news, since I didn't love that Bond movie. I can't wait to see if this movie is as good as his first outing, Casino Royale, when Skyfall comes out Nov. 9. The iTunes store offers lots of content, but with the separate pages for movies, TV, apps, and books, it can be a pain for a casual user like Mom to navigate. This Mother's Day, help Mom make the most of her digital media with a walk-through of the iTunes Store's most important functions.

Update Mom's iTunes: If Mom's still running on 6.0, the first step is updating the program to its current version. She's less likely to run into bugs, plus she'll have the most current store features.
Teach how to redeem a gift card: Save Mom the future phone call to you by showing her how to redeem an iTunes gift card. Select the "Quick Links" bar on the right hand side of the iTunes Store home page, then "Redeem" to enter the gift card code and begin purchasing. Remind her to take this step any time she wants to use the gift card, otherwise iTunes will automatically charge the credit card associated with the iTunes account.
Test out the search bar: Mom likely knows what she wants to purchase ahead of time, so help her search for items via the search bar on the upper right-hand corner of the title bar. The results aren't always clear, so make sure she's selecting the right items for purchase (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo book rather than the movie).
Explore each option on the navigation bar: Music, movies, TV shows, apps, and books: these are just a few items on the top navigation bar that Mom should explore to see what's new and what's popular.
Dive deep into each section: Each media content page breaks down into series of categories. Fun fact: the title of the movie itself (probably the most recited line from the film) was grabbed from a scene in cult hit The Big Lebowski, so it was probably destined for quotability from the start. Which May Release Are You Most Excited to See?

Welcome to a new month! May reminds us that we haven't bought anything for Mother's Day yet, and the end of April showers presumably brings flowers, but mostly May is awesome because it means Summer movie season has arrived. All right, if you want to be a stickler about it, Summer actually starts in June, but with blockbusters like The Avengers, Battleship, and Men in Black III opening this month, as far as we're concerned, Summer is in the building. What We Know About Fifty Shades Author E.L. James

E.L. James, author of the erotic Fifty Shades of Grey series atop the New York Times best-seller list, isn't embarrassed about her material. The British mother of two kicked off a book tour in Miami last weekend, greeting more than 500 blushing and flushing fans at an early morning signing on Sunday. Later in the day, she spoke to a sold-out crowd. E.L. James has bagged a seven-figure movie deal, and The Vampire Diaries' Ian Somerhalder already threw out his name as a possible Christian Grey. If you're deep into the S&M fiction, or just curious about the pop culture phenomenon, here are a few things to know about the woman who started it all.

Her real name is Erika Leonard.
Before she landed on E.L. James, she went by the pen name "Snowqueens Icedragon." And her work was originally titled Master of the Universe.
The story began as Twilight fan fiction, and E.L. James says Stephenie Meyers inspired her to try writing a novel.
She wrote the story during what she calls a "midlife crisis" and says it contains all her fantasies in one place.
She's been married for 20 years, and has two teenage sons who have not read the books. Of that prospect, she says: "Good God. I would be mortified."
E.L. James was raised in London, studied history, and previously worked as a TV producer.
She was named one of Time's most influential people of 2012.
