What Should Have Been the Title for Made of Honor?

Just today, Cinematical pondered a question I've been asking myself a lot lately: What could the title Made of Honor possibly mean?

As a pun on the term "maid of honor" (which is what Michelle Monaghan's character asks Patrick Dempsey's character to be in the movie), it doesn't actually work. As Cinematical points out, "a pun usually involves conflating two words or expressions that make sense in the same context and happen to sound alike. In this case, I only count one." Having seen the movie, the writer is more confounded because the use of "made" is never explained (i.e., it's not the character's last name or anything), and Dempsey's character is never really made out to be "honorable" at all.

So, I asked around. Anyone know why it's titled Made of Honor? Anyone? Beuller? No. A friend of mine joked that they named it Made of Honor because My Best Friend's Wedding was already taken. Ha! (It's funny because the premise of both movies appears to be exactly the same with just a gender reversal.) So tell me: what else could they have titled Made of Honor? Kate Hudson flaunted her bikini body poolside in Mexico yesterday. She's vacationing with fiancé Matthew Bellamy, who lounged in his bathrobe and sipped on a cold drink. Bingham and Ryder weren't spotted with Kate and Matthew, who chatted on the patio. It's been less than a year since Kate gave birth to baby Bingham, though she already slipped into a bikini last Sept., just two months after welcoming her second son into the world. It looks like the mom of two is enjoying the Cabo sun after spending much of the Winter in colder climates like London and Aspen. The vacation is almost over for Kate, since she's set to star in a new movie titled Everly, which will start filming this Spring.

Marion Works With Joaquin, Then Hits the Streets With Guillaume and Marcel

Marion Cotillard got to work in NYC on Friday on a new movie with Joaquin Phoenix. The two actors are under the direction of James Gray, who worked with Joaquin and Gwyneth Paltrow on the 2008 film Two Lovers. This picture, which takes place in the 1920s, doesn't yet have a title. Marion stars as an immigrant to the US, who's tricked by Joaquin's character into a life of vaudeville. Jeremy Renner also has a part in the production. This is one of Joaquin's first roles since he took a break from acting following the release of I'm Still Here. He's also starring in Paul Thomas Anderson's pseudo-Scientology movie, The Master.

It seems Marion had yesterday off, though, to spend time out and about with her boyfriend Guillaume Canet and their young son Marcel. The trio bundled up to take a stroll around their temporary home base. The Canet-Cotillard clan was last in Paris, where Marion and Guillaume attended a César event. The Césars, France's most prestigious award show, takes place back in Paris on Feb. 24 with Guillaume serving as host.

George Wins, Leo Honors Martin, The Help Gets a Hand, and More at the Critics' Choice Awards!

The Critics' Choice Awards took place in LA tonight and recognized actors, actresses, and films released over the past 12 months. George Clooney took home the top honor of best actor, beating out friends Brad Pitt and Ryan Gosling. He was joined at the event by his girlfriend Stacy Keibler and thanked his fellow The Descendants castmates during his heartfelt acceptance speech. The Help was recognized for outstanding ensemble cast with Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer each going home with an individual nod for best actress and best supporting actress respectively.

Leonardo DiCaprio took the stage to honor his mentor and film director Martin Scorsese with the Music + Film award and Bob Dylan also paid tribute to Scorsese with a song. Leo brought along his dad George to the dinner, while the actor's girlfriend Erin Heatherton is currently shooting the upcoming Victoria's Secret Summer catalog. The Artist was the biggest winner of the evening with four awards. Ryan Gosling missed out on the celebratory event, however, his suspenseful flick Drive was crowned best action movie while Bridesmaids won best comedy and Rango earned the title of best animated film - check out the entire list of Critics' Choice Awards winners! LOL Trailer: Miley Cyrus Laughs Out Loud in High School and Paris

In LOL, Miley Cyrus stars as Lola, who goes by the nickname of "Lol," so the title isn't just reflective of her generation's love for and reliance on technology. But cell phones, IMs, and texting do play a big part here, as Lola and her friends navigate high school and its profusion of boys and partying. Of course, no high school movie is complete without a disapproving parent, and Lola's mom (Demi Moore) certainly doesn't endorse Lola's misbehavior, which includes failing her classes. Lola eventually gets to go to France for some reason, and things with her mom start to look up.

LOL in general seems achingly cheesy (it's not helped by voice-over lines like "she's at that special age when hearts are broken"). That said, I probably would have liked it when I was Lola's age; the trailer is bubbly and light, and worth it to watch for the costume changes and man candy (and to see if you can pick out the very brief glimpse of Ashley Greene). There's no release date set yet, but you can watch the trailer after the break.

Drew and Will announced the exciting news of their plan to wed just yesterday, after Will popped the question in Sun Valley, ID, over the holidays. The duo are one of many celebrities headed down the aisle, but their wedding isn't the only thing they have to look forward to this year. Drew has a new movie titled Big Miracle coming out next month, and her press tour will be the perfect chance to show off her new jewelry.

4 Reasons Why You Should Give The Artist a Chance

The Artist, which is now out in wide release, is mostly silent, set in the '30s, and doesn't have a great deal of huge stars (John Goodman and James Cromwell are two of the biggest names, and they're only in supporting roles). That may not sound super appealing to the majority of the movie-going public, but after being delighted by the film, I hope that people won't shy away from seeing it. The film is a magical throwback to another era that I urge anyone who loves movies to see. Here are four reasons to give The Artist a chance.

It's not totally silent. True, the characters almost never speak aloud, but there is a musical accompaniment to nearly every scene, and there are occasional title cards to tell you what the characters are saying. So don't get caught up thinking that because it's "silent" you'll be bored - you won't be.
It's not like anything you've ever seen before. Few people from my generation have ever seen a silent film, but that's not the only reason why it's an interesting experience at the theater. The movie is about the film industry's transition from silent movies to "talkies," and it borrows film techniques from each. It's fun to see the aforementioned title cards, and then when you do hear certain sounds, like a glass being set down, it's like you're experiencing talkies for the first time.
You'll want to meet these new stars. The performances in The Artist are fantastic, especially considering the acting challenge of being silent. The actors rely on their expressions and physical acting (meaning lots of dancing!), and when they deliberately take it over the top, you're charmed by them. You'll also want to meet the two magnetic leads, French actors Jean Dujardin and Bérénice Bejo, because I predict you'll be seeing more of them in the future.
The award buzz is deafening. The Artist has been scoring big with nominations for the Golden Globes, the Spirit Awards, and Critics' Choice. It's pretty obvious that The Artist is a shoo-in for Oscar nominations, which are just around the corner.
