Buzz-Worthy Video: An Ode to Lost

If you count yourself among the many avid Lost fans in the world, then you know that the show isn't a subject to be taken lightly. There's no talking during episodes, and definitely no asking questions. Sound familiar? Check out this viral video from a bunch of dudes calling themselves "Donkey Wheel" - singing a song simply titled "We Like Lost." It plays off the show as well as Lonely Island's "We Like Sportz," making sure to call out all of our favorite characters and random references. Even Carlton Cuse gave it his stamp of approval via Twitter. It's not a substitute for the real thing, but it might just help ease the pain of waiting a few more months until season six.

Which Lost Characters Do You Most Want to See in Season 6?

After months and months of waiting for Lost's final season, we're finally in the home stretch! Promos for new episodes have started rolling out (though we won't see a single snip of new footage until next year) and the speculation about who will be returning is heating up more than ever.

A few weeks ago there were rumblings that a character from seasons past had been asked to return but hadn't made a decision yet, and today we learned that it's Maggie Grace. Of course, just because she's yet to confirm an appearance in season six doesn't mean we won't see Shannon. Just last week Sonya Walger said she "didn't know" if we'd be seeing Penny either, but we do know that Ian Somerhalder's pretty face will be making a cameo.

The masterminds behind the show have said that we're going to see lots of old faces in the final season, so while we wait - which Lost characters do you want to see in season 6? Should Walt make a return? What about Charlie and Claire?

Buzz Interview: Sonya Walger Talks Pulling Double Duty For FlashForward and Lost

I've been hooked on FlashForward since I saw the pilot back at the TCA, thanks to the intriguing premise and action-packed episodes. Earlier this week I had the opportunity to chat with Sonya Walger, who stars as Olivia and also plays Penny on Lost. While she made sure not to reveal any spoilers, Sonya talked about her character, the comparisons between shows, and more.

On how her friends and family have responded to the show: They've been completely thrilled. It was fun, I was in London just last week. I had a few days off so nipped home to see my mom. It's so fun to have the show airing simultaneously there, in a real time experience. Everyone's excited about it. It's really exciting.
On having a new TV family: It's lovely. It's lovely to have a place to belong to and come to every week. The scripts are so fun to get. They're really exciting. Week after week it's just a treat to come home and find them on your doorstep.
On her hopes for Olivia and Mark's relationship: You hope for Olivia's sake and for their little girl's sake that they can stay together; but at the same time I wouldn't wish Olivia to stay in a relationship that was miserable and making her and the three of them unhappy. You just want the best for your character, really.

Would she take an opportunity to see a flashforward of her own? No, I'd hate it. I would turn it down, I wouldn't want anything to do with it.
On the comparisons between Lost and FlashForward: I feel the comparisons are inevitable, to be honest. Any time you've got a big show with an ensemble cast and they're all reacting to the same big event, then of course you're going to get Lost comparisons - particularly when you've got two cast members who are from the old show. I think and hope that quite quickly the comparisons will turn off. I think the shows are radically different; I think the way they unfold, the story lines, the scope of them, there's not that deep embedded mythology of Lost, we don't have that. We have big payoffs that happen in every single episode so you're not forced to wait for six seasons to find out what's going on. There are reveals that happen constantly. I think FlashForward will prove a much less daunting show to join. I think that one of the things about Lost is that the last season is starting and I can't imagine viewers will want to be joining it now when they've never seen it before, whereas I think that FlashForward is much more accessible. If you haven't seen the first five episodes you could easily join in and know exactly what's going on.
Other favorite shows of the Fall season?: I love Modern Family, I think it's a really smart, clever show.
On her Halloween plans: I'm going to be on a plane flying to Melbourne. So short of spooking the pilot, I don't have any plans.

Ian Somerhalder on Playing a Vampire and Returning to Lost

The third episode of The Vampire Diaries is on tonight, and I'm already hooked. Stefan is the show's answer to Edward Cullen, but there's no question that his brother, sexy, evil Damon, is the man of the hour. Ian Somerhalder plays him in all his chiseled, thirsty glory, but Diaries isn't the only show that Somerhalder is appearing in: last week he was on his way to Hawaii to reprise his deceased character Boone on Lost!

I had both exciting shows on my mind when I ran into him at the TCAs, and Somerhalder obliged my questions.

On what he likes about Damon, his character on The Vampire Diaries:I would say [that he's] charming, dangerous, funny - those are pretty cool things. I've always played roles where I had to take myself way too seriously. This is not that.

On whether it's better or worse to be playing a vampire right now: It makes it a more opportune time to be playing a vampire. By virtue of the success of Twilight, it has sort of paved our way for existence, so never bite the hand that feeds you. It's a great time for that. For some reason it caught on, and I think this whole vampire thing is here to stay for a while. I mean, that franchise has another three installments, I think? Which is a lot.
On what will set The Vampire Diaries apart: I think that the show is very well acted, it's very well directed, it's very well shot, and obviously it's very well written. And that's, you know, there's a lot of equity in that. These are really dynamic characters.
On whether he was a fan of any of Kevin Williamson's other shows: The first job I ever had, which was a show called Young Americans, was a spinoff of Dawson's Creek. Twice now, Kevin has given me the avenue to have a really great job.
On returning to Lost: I know it's happening. We're figuring out the dates right now. It's complicated just because of scheduling. It's not going to be that really great vacation that I always get with lots per diem and a convertible and massages by the beach, but this is going to be getting on a plane, flying, landing, going to set, working, sleeping, and then flying back.
On whether he knows what's going on in the final season: I'm curious, because I'm just as confused as everyone else . . . I need to do a lot of catch-up before I come back.

I can't wait to see Boone again on Lost, even if it is only a flashback. Plus, I figure that Somerhalder knows his way around playing a dead dude by now.

What Do You Think About the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama?

Michael Emerson is taking home the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama for Lost! He beat out Christian Clemenson, William Hurt, Aaron Paul, William Shatner, and John Slattery.

I am so excited he finally got the recognition after so many amazing seasons as Ben. What do you think about this win?

Deadwood's John Hawkes Joins Final Season of Lost

Deadwood actor John Hawkes (also recently seen on the HBO show Eastbound and Down) has landed a recurring role on Lost for the mysterious show's final season.

For all the Lost fans out there, here are some details to mull over about the role: Hawkes will play Lennon, "the scruffy, edgy and charismatic spokesperson and translator for the president of a foreign corporation who is far more powerful than it seems from his position." Oooh, translators always have major power to influence and alter things; this part should be pretty juicy.

It's hard to imagine getting through the next several months Lost-less, with all this anticipation building and building. It already sounds like it'll be a heckuva final season.

Lost Takes Comic-Con For the Last Time

The final Comic-Con Lost panel ever was filled with such warmth and humor and mutual appreciation (between fans and executive producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof) I didn't want it to end. Though there was of course no new footage of the next season, there were plenty of surprises for us fans. Some of these fans were even visited by Cuse and Lindelof last night as they camped out for early entry into this morning's Lost panel.

Some of the video footage that they did show included: A commercial for "Lost University," a promo for a fake old ABC show called "mysteries of the universe," an America's Most Wanted clip about the "armed and dangerous murderer" Katherine Austen, a montage of clips from fan-made Lost video stuff, an Oceanic Airlines commercial, and an "in memoriam" video about the characters who have died on the show, ending with Charlie just before, of course, Dominic Monaghan took the stage.

In addition to Monaghan, the panel featured fun appearances by Jorge Garcia, Michael Emerson, Nestor Carbonell and, after a delicious clip montage, a surprise appearance by Josh Holloway, my beloved Sawyer. So you can probably guess what was my favorite part of the panel.

One fan's question had to do with season six bearing similarities to the first season and the producers confirmed this, to a degree, saying that they want to "close the loop" of the show with a final season that reflects the first in some ways. Cuse mentioned that there will be some of the "emotional discovery" that was found in the first season while Lindelof promised we'd see some characters in season six who we haven't seen in a while. He added that their goal is to have us watch the final season and not know what they're going to do, so in that sense, they want to return to the "unpredictability" of seasone one.
Having said all that, they aim for season six to be something different altogether from all other seasons: "The time travel season is over, the flash forward season is over, so season six will be something totally different."
When a self-proclaimed "Faraday Fangirl" asked if we might see Faraday again, maybe alive and happily married with children, the producers reminded her that Faraday really is dead so it would have to be a "zombie wedding." However! Lindelof assured us that Faraday will be on the show next season nonetheless.
After showing up in a fake commercial for Mr. Cluck's, Jorge Garcia appeared at the microphone to "ask a question" about whether Jack's plan really did work because if it did, "that would be, like, a real big cheat." The producers urged Jorge to just trust them, to which Jorge fired back, "Yeah but last time I trusted you guys you said Paolo and Nicki were going to be totally awesome." He wanted to know if they would answer all the questions next season, and Lindelof said they would answer "all the questions that matter."
There was, of course, a question about Richard Alpert and the producers assured us we will see a lot of Richard next season, with Cuse adding, "I think we would be remiss if we didn't give you Richard's backstory." They then showed a funny video of Nestor Carbonell pitching a fit because someone gave him the "cobalt" eyeliner to use instead of his usual "onyx."
One male fan gushed about having "cried like a sissy" when Juliet fell and he declared any man in the room who said otherwise a liar before asking if they could just bring back Juliet. All Cuse/Lindelof said in reply was that Elizabeth Mitchell will be on Lost next season.
One fan asked if Jacob has ever appeared as any other character like, say, Claire. Lindelof answered "no," and they gave the fan their one prize for the day: a wooden seagull with the little note Claire wrote (the actual note used on the show) rolled up and attached to the gull's foot.
And finally, in a moment of fondness that made me feel a little teary, the producers thanked Lost fans again and again, saying "Lost exists because of you and for you," and that Lost fans have proven that audiences don't need or want "lowest common denominator" kinds of shows. Aww.

If Lost Had a Theme Song, What Would It Sound Like?

If you can answer this question using a guitar or piano or your voice, the Lost peeps want to hear from you. Some might say that Lost already has some sort of theme music: that spooky warpy sound that we hear when the title comes up in the beginning of each episode. But Lost producers want a real song - and they want it to come from the show's biggest fans. Here's more:

The Lost producers want all you musicians out there to compose and submit a Lost theme song. The winning entry will be premiered to 7,000 screaming fans in Hall H during Lost's Saturday panel at San Diego Comic-Con.

So, basically what the winner gets is just bragging rights and some attention from Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof, but in the world of Lost fandom, that's pretty dang cool. And having experienced the sweet lovefest that goes on between the Lost producers and fans during the panel at Comic-Con, I think it's a very adorable and special addition for this year's throng of Lostheads.

Lost Fans: Claire Will Be Back - But How?

Team Darlton (Lost producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse) have confirmed that Claire (Emilie de Ravin) will, in fact, be back as a full-time series regular for the show's sixth and final season. Cuse stated mysteriously, "Damon and I are very excited to bring Claire back to the show, and even more excited for people to experience just how she will return." How?! How will she return?

At any rate, this is good news for Lost fans, since, according to a post on EW's Popwatch, the mystery of where (when?) the heck Claire is is one of the topmost burning questions for fans (right up there with "what's the deal with the Island's Egyptian-themed ancient history?" and "what's Richard Alpert's backstory?"). As the ever-clever Lostologist Doc Jensen speculates, maybe next season will be devoted to the question "Who's really alive and who's really (un)dead?" and Claire will be a part of that puzzle.
