Video of the Day: Kanye West and Spike Jonze's "We Were Once a Fairytale"

Spike Jonze is the man today. After Where the Wild Things Are took the top box office spot over the weekend, the Internet is also buzzing with this new short film he made with Kanye West. I'm on a bit of a Jonze kick myself, so I was excited to check it out - especially since I liked their combined efforts on West's video for "Flashing Lights."

This film is called "We Were Once a Fairytale," and it features a drunken West acting belligerent at a club. (Maybe that's not a stretch given the Taylor Swift incident.) Up until about the six-minute mark, the footage is actually kind of boring, but then things get bizarre, and obscure Jonze imaginings start popping up, including a creature that could be the cousin to a Wild Thing, living in West's stomach. Really.

It's interesting to say the very least, so let me know what you think after you read more.

Kanye Apologizes on The Jay Leno Show - Forgive Him or Forget Him?

On the premiere of The Jay Leno Show last night, Kanye West agreed to do a short interview with Leno before his performance. He took the opportunity to apologize to Taylor Swift for grabbing the microphone out of her hand during her acceptance speech at the VMAs. West had previously said he was sorry via his blog, but his TV appearance seemed a lot more heartfelt - he even said he's going to take time off to think about his actions. On the other hand, this isn't the first time West has acted out and expected the world to forgive him after a few seemingly genuine apologies. Fall TV is back in full swing, but Gossip Girl isn't the only big premiere to watch tonight. After a Summer filled with controversy, Jay Leno will debut his brand new primetime show at 10 p.m. on NBC.

Leno already had a star-studded lineup of stars with Beyonce, Jay-Z, Rihanna, and Kanye West set to perform. Of course, getting some face time with Kanye after last night's VMA debacle should be even more of a gold mine for ratings. What to Download: New Music on iTunes

Tuesdays are big in entertainmentville: Not only do all the new DVD releases hit Netflix, but new music also pours into stores, including iTunes. So I take a spin through each week's iTunes music releases and pick out some albums and tracks worthy of a download. Here are today's selections:

Glamorous: This new album from Las Vegas's own glam rock band The Killers goes full speed ahead on the dramatic. While some of the songs are a little . . . much, a lot of the tracks work as danceable rock anthems. I've downloaded "Human," a pulsing epic of a song that I'd like to jog to, and tracks like "Spaceman" and "A Dustland Fairytale" are catchy and even kind of pretty.

A little catharsis with your music: On Kanye West's new album, it's clear his personal life drove his songwriting, making the entire effect kind of sad and reflective. Unlike his previous releases, he sings on every track. It's a departure that's earning him mixed reviews. The New York Times, for example, bluntly states one big issue with the collection: "Mr. West can’t sing, and it is that weakness for which this album will ultimately be remembered, some solid songs notwithstanding." Still, there are a handful of interesting (and very different-sounding) tracks, including "Amazing" and "Bad News."

Bollywood meets hip-hop: As the love for Danny Boyle's film Slumdog Millionaire grows, the more curious about it I've become. Some folks who have seen the movie already have been clamoring to get the tracks featured in the film onto their iPods, including one called "O...Saya," a special collaboration between AR Rahman and MIA. I also really like "Ringa Ringa" and "Liquid Dance."
