Buzz In: What Are Your Favorite ER Memories?

It's hard to believe I was in junior high when ER first premiered on NBC. For many of the show's 15 seasons, I spent my Thursday nights following the medical cases, love affairs, and dozens of guest stars that swept through County General.

ER ends tonight, and so I wanted to ask any of you who ever watched to think back through your memories for some favorite ER moments. I'll start things off with a few of mine: watching "Love's Labor Lost" and crying; rooting so hard for Mark and Susan to get together that I was downright angry at Sherry Stringfield for leaving the show; and, um, laughing kind of a lot at Romano's death by helicopter. Also, for some reason, one of the scenes that still sticks out in my mind is Benton and Corday playing darts.

TV Tonight: Margulies and - Yes! - Clooney Return to ER

We've followed the rumors about George Clooney's return to ER. We've glimpsed him back in scrubs. And tonight, we'll see Clooney again as Dr. Doug Ross in the role that made him a breakout star.

It's all part of a star-studded episode that features the return of not just Clooney but Julianna Margulies, Eriq LaSalle, and more doctors and nurses from County General's staff. I'm not going to lie - I maybe got a little chill when I saw the promo with LaSalle doing his little arm-pump thing in the hallway. Just really takes me back, y'know?

The episode is appropriately called "In Times of Old." NBC is being cagey about what exactly brings Ross and Hathaway back to Chicago (in fact, they're avoiding saying the name "Clooney" at all, referring to the guest star only as "the doctor Hathaway married"). TV Tonight: Noah Wyle's Back in the ER

When ER began 15 years ago, Noah Wyle's John Carter was just a baby-faced intern trying to handle the fast pace and tough cases of County General's ER. Tonight, Carter is back, with years of experience and a mysterious reason for returning to the hospital that made him a man.

The episode is titled "The Beginning of the End," and that's certainly the truth: The show is entering its final batch of episodes on the way to the big finale in March. Wyle is just the latest in a long string of guest stars who have shown up for return engagements: Anthony Edwards turned up in November, and we still have the second coming of George Clooney's Dr. Doug Ross to come.

Wyle's scheduled for five episodes, and while we'll have to tune in to see his reasons for coming back, executive producer John Wells said a while back that Carter featured prominently in his plans for the series' end. While I haven't been a regular ER viewer in years, I'm definitely curious to see what's in store for these last few hours. Anyone else? Buzz In: What Dead or Long-Gone Characters Should Return?

Tonight, Dr. Mark Greene returns to County General for a very special episode of ER. Once ER's leading man, Anthony Edwards left the show in 2002 to pursue other opportunities but was persuaded to come back in this final season to help the show bid farewell. Dr. Greene (thankfully) won't be returning as a ghost, instead appearing in a flashback for Dr. Cate Banfield (Angela Bassett).

Greene's reappearance - and the frequent gossip about whether George Clooney will also return to the show - has gotten me thinking about other dead (or merely long-gone) characters I'd love to see return to TV shows currently on the air. Grey's Anatomy certainly hasn't been stingy with bringing back Denny Duquette, but I wouldn't cry about a repeat appearance from Dylan the bomb guy. What about you?

Noah Wyle Says Clooney's Coming Back to ER

George Clooney has been shooting down rumors of a return to ER for a few months now, but now he has former costar Noah Wyle to thank for bringing them up again.

In next week's issue of TV Guide, Wyle tells columnist Will Keck that "From what I heard, George said, 'absolutely,' schedule permitting," about returning to the show. That's totally opposite from everything we've heard from Clooney's camp till now, though the producers have said they hoped he would return.

The group of returning cast members keeps on growing: Eriq LaSalle (Peter Benton) will meet up with Wyle's John Carter for an episode that will air in the Spring: "As a result of [Carter’s] once near-fatal stabbing, which led to my subsequent drug addiction, I come back from Africa requiring additional medical treatment for my one remaining kidney. I’m embarrassed to get treatment at County General, so I go up to Northwestern to get my dialysis up there, and that’s where Dr. Benton spies my name on a patient list and comes to pay me a visit," Wyle told TV Guide. LaSalle is also directing an episode of the series.

Meanwhile, Anthony Edwards returns as Mark Greene in a flashback for the Nov. 13 episode, and Laura Innes, Paul McCrane, and Alex Kingston are also on the list of returning actors. Clooney and Julianna Margulies are among the only ex-County General folks who have yet to confirm a return, so tell me: Is it time they give in and agree to give us a glimpse into Doug and Carol's life?
