TV Tonight: Entourage Season Finale and Seinfeld Reunion

We've got a big night on HBO ahead as one comedy series wraps for the season and another starts taking off. The much-anticipated Seinfeld reunion finally kicks off on Curb Your Enthusiasm, and I'm so excited that I can barely, um, curb my enthusiasm. The first two episodes were OK, but this is the moment we've all been waiting for - Jerry! Elaine! George! Kramer! Back together again!

After Curb, it's time to say good-bye to HBO's last remaining member of the Sunday night lineup of Summer. On the season finale of Entourage, Turtle and Eric handle their respective relationship problems while Lloyd may finally have to face Ari now that they're working together again. We'll also be treated to a very special guest appearance by Matt Damon. I've enjoyed most of this season, but Vince has kind of been a supporting character - will he be part of a juicy cliffhanger tonight?

Buzz In: What Do You Think of HBO's New Sunday Night Lineup?

While the Emmys were going down on CBS last night, HBO unveiled its latest Sunday lineup. True Blood and Hung may be out for now, but in their place, the network brought in another season of Curb Your Enthusiasm and new show Bored to Death to air before Entourage.

I'm curious to hear what you guys think about the schedule and this week's episodes. Curb has been getting a ton of hype thanks to the upcoming Seinfeld reunion, but I was a little underwhelmed with the premiere - there was no Seinfeld alum in sight, and it seems like the cast's cameo may still be weeks away. And while Bored to Death looks promising, it's still finding its footing. HBO usually has a strong showing on Sundays, but without True Blood in the mix, I wouldn't be surprised if they lose a few viewers - especially when you have Mad Men, Desperate Housewives, and other shows competing for the same time slot.

So tell me, did you catch HBO last night? What do you think about the network's new lineup? Will you watch?

A Seinfeld Reunion - and Other News From HBO

HBO took the stage at the Television Critics Association press tour on Thursday and came out with plenty of big news, including a Seinfeld reunion on Curb Your Enthusiasm, new seasons of several shows, and a new animated series from the folks behind The Office. Want to know more? Here goes:

First of all: Seinfeld reunion! Larry David had long insisted such a thing would never happen, but then he decided it might be funny to do it on the new season of Curb Your Enthusiasm - so he is! The idea of a Seinfeld reunion will be a major plot on the upcoming season, which will premiere Sept. 20. Jerry Seinfeld will appear in five episodes throughout the season, and Jason Alexander, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Michael Richards will also appear in four to five episodes each, though not necessarily all together. Said David:

We'll see writing, see aspects of the read-through, parts of rehearsal, see the show being filmed, and see it on TV. You won't see the entire show. You'll see parts of the show. You'll get an idea of what happened [to the Seinfeld characters] 11 years later. Within the show, it will be incorporated into regular Curb episodes.
HBO also officially renewed three shows: the new comedy Hung and veterans Entourage and - confirming what we heard at Comic-Con - True Blood. All will return sometime in 2010, with True Blood a lock for a Summer slot.
One of the announcements that excited me most: HBO has officially ordered an animated comedy series from The Office creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, based on their podcasts with Karl Pilkington.
The official word on a possible third season of Flight of the Conchords: "When they're ready, we're ready."
Ideally, Treme (from The Wire creator David Simon) will premiere in the Spring. The fates of The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency and In Treatment remain undecided. And Martin Scorsese's Boardwalk Empire is practically guaranteed a series order.

First Look: Entourage Season 6

It's just a couple of weeks now till the boys of Entourage are back on our screen, and if these promos from HBO are to be believed, things look to be on the upswing for Vincent Chase. This year, as series creator Doug Ellin says, the show is "getting back to the the excitement and the fun of being a movie star and living that life."

From the looks of things, that means success, romance, lighthearted fun, and Hollywood boys being Hollywood boys. Here's hoping they've got some great stories cooked up to keep the show feeling fresh for another season.

One thing they've got for sure is star power, with a huge number of guest stars set to make appearances. Among them: Zac Efron and Tom Brady (both of whom appear in the first clip below), Lil Wayne, LeBron James, 50 Cent, William Fichtner, Matt Letscher, and Scott Caan.

What to Netflix: New DVD Tuesday

All of the new DVD releases hit stores (and Netflix) on Tuesdays. So each week in What to Netflix: New DVD Tuesday, I sort through the best of the batch and tell you what to add to your queue.

Two Lovers
This is the movie Joaquin Phoenix was supposed to be promoting on Letterman when he appeared to be losing it. His batty appearances at the time probably overshadowed the very good work he did in this aching drama about love and attraction. So, if you didn't catch this movie directed by James Gray, now it's out on DVD to take home.

Phoenix plays Leonard, a somewhat tortured soul living with his folks who falls for two women: kindhearted family friend Sandra (Vinessa Shaw) and the beautifully damaged Michelle (Gwyneth Paltrow). Sandra makes her feelings clear, and Leonard could have a stable relationship with her. But Leonard is drawn to Michelle because she's disturbed, confused, and vulnerable - just like Leonard. The question becomes: which one should he be with?

Special features include commentary with director James Gray, behind the scenes footage, and deleted scenes.

Secret Diary of a Call Girl: Season Two
Instead of paying for Showtime, I have some friends who just keep up with their favorite series on DVD. If you do this, too, it's time to check out the second season of Secret Diary of a Call Girl.

At this year's TCAs, the show's producer, Rebecca De Souza, talked about what audiences could expect from season two and said that the main story of the season is "Belle falling in love and can she manage to sustain a relationship? Can she juggle Belle and Hannah? Can Hannah get what she wants? Hannah wants a relationship. Or will Belle always take her away from that?"

Special features include "Billie On Belle," an interview with Billie Piper and Webisodes.

Entourage: Season Five
Entourage is one of those shows I love to watch on DVD because it's so fun to see these episodes back-to-back. Here's how Netflix describes the fifth season, now on DVD: "HBO's hit Hollywood-centered comedy is back for a fifth season, with movie star Vincent Chase (Adrian Grenier) once again at the helm of his considerable posse, including his friends from back home, his brother, his representatives and a cadre of beautiful women. This time around, Vince must pick himself up off the pavement and square his shoulders against Hollywood as he struggles to save face in Tinseltown after his biggest failure yet."

Special features include revealing behind-the-scenes interviews with cast and crew and three audio commentaries with creator/executive producer Doug Ellin, Kevin Connolly, Jerry Ferrara, Adrian Grenier, and producer Ally Musika.

Buzz Gift Guide: Entertainment Tees For Guys

Welcome back to my Buzz Gift Guide series for all the entertainment lovers in your life. Last week I dug up fun t-shirts for the ladies so today I'm tackling the men's t-shirt department.

I love the idea of buying entertainment-related tees for guys because it not only shows you care, but that you really are listening when they quote, say, Arrested Development all the time. Is Entourage Still Fresh - Or Stale?

Ari Gold and the gang won't be leaving our TV screens anytime soon: HBO has just renewed Entourage for a sixth season. The episodes should start filming next year and air in Summer 2009.

Entourage has done a lot of skewering of Hollywood in these past few years, and it doesn't seem like it's ready to wind down anytime soon - at least according to Jeremy Piven, who said after winning his third Emmy that he could see the show going on. Do you think Entourage still has something to say?

Take to the Air With Entourage - or Just Watch These Clips

Entourage is (finally) back Sept. 7, but if you want to see the show's season five premiere early, just book yourself a Virgin America flight from NYC to Vegas. For all of September, that flight will be rebranded Entourage Air with special Entourage-themed goodies - and, starting on Sept. 4, a screening of the show's premiere episode.

The inaugural flight - which has to be quite the hot ticket - includes a party with the cast and Virgin founder Richard Branson on the JFK end of the trip and a party at the Palms Casino Resort's Playboy Club after the flight lands in Vegas. (What, they couldn't throw a party on the plane, too?) If you can't make that reservation, no worry: all first-class passengers will be treated as Entourage Class throughout the promotion, which includes champagne, noise-canceling headphones, Godiva chocolates, Kiehl's goodies, Altoids (Altoids?), and Entourage Air-branded blankets and eye masks.

But if you're not an Ari Gold-style high roller, don't worry. There are other ways to get an early glimpse of the Entourage premiere - like a couple of clips just below the jump. The show opens with Vince trying to get back on his feet after the shocking failure of Medellin, first taking refuge in Mexico, and then trying to decide whether to hop back into the game. What to Netflix: New DVD Tuesday

All of the new DVD releases hit stores (and Netflix) on Tuesdays. So each week in What to Netflix: New DVD Tuesday, I sort through the best of the batch and tell you what to add to your queue. In addition to my selections below you can also take home the fourth season of Entourage, as well as season five of One Tree Hill (you know, the one where they leap ahead in time and everyone owns a business or is a famous writer or something). Also, Morgan Spurlock's documentary Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden? is out on DVD along with another great indie film, Son of Rambow.

What Happens in Vegas
This comedy starring Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz didn't do so hot with critics when it first came out, but I found myself charmed by it, despite how staggeringly absurd it is at times.

Two opposites (Cameron Diaz, Ashton Kutcher) are forced to live together in matrimony so they can collect a large sum of money they accidentally won together in Las Vegas. Not only do the leads have a surprising amount of chemistry (well, I didn't expect any,
so. . .) but two supporting actors, the droll Lake Bell and The Daily Show's Rob Corddry, anchor the ridiculous moments with superb comic timing. All in all, it's a decent choice for your at-home enjoyment.

Special features include commentary from the director and a featurette titled "Sitting Down With Cameron and Ashton."

Heroes: Season Two
It's no secret that season two of NBC's Heroes isn't my favorite, due mostly to its slow pacing, cluttered plots, and overabundance of random new superheroes. But as we round the corner toward the long-awaited premiere of season three, you might just find yourself needing a little refresher (also, this season ended ages ago). So here it is, in all its perplexing, sometimes frustrating glory: season two!

I live for the special features that come with my favorite TV-on-DVD selections, and this one is no different. There's an alternate ending to the season (cool!), followed by an "inside the alternate ending" feature (even cooler!) titled "What If Peter Didn't Catch the Vial?," a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the third season premiere episode (yes!) and of course audio commentaries with cast and crew. Can you tell I'm excited?

Redbelt
I had to go see this film when I attended the Tribeca Film Festival this year because it boasts the insane combination of one of my favorite actors ever (Chiwetel Ejiofor) with one of my favorite actresses (Emily Mortimer) and a writer/director who I think of as a visionary (David Mamet). And for the most part, I was not disappointed.

In Redbelt, Ejiofor plays the powerful and controlled mixed-martial arts instructor Mike Terry who vows to stay far away from the competitive circuit. But when a series of coincidences occur and Terry finds himself in financial peril, he returns to the ring for one last time. Alice Braga (I Am Legend) beautifully plays Terry's wife, Sondra, and Mortimer plays an anxious stranger who learns important lessons of her own from Terry's MMA instruction. I had a bit of a love/hate relationship with this movie, which is to say, I loved it - up until the end, when I kinda hated it. I still think it's a worthwhile rental, especially for any Mamet fan.
