What's Buzzworthy: Embarrassing Movies to Watch With Parents

Last week I invited you all to Buzzworthy the movies you've watched with your parents (or grandparents, or in-laws) that just made you cringe, slump down in your seat, or pretend to yawn, stretch and call it a night. There were some great Buzzworthied DVDs, as well as many comments about embarrassing movie experiences. Check out some of the titles bookmarked by Buzz readers, and then a few "highlights" (if you can call them that!) from the comments section of last week's Buzzworthy challenge.

I couldn't agree more with this selection from Fab_Kitty, who writes "I love this movie, but can't think of any flick more embarrassing to watch with older family members. Be sure Grammy knows this movie isn't about a sweet Doris Day-type heroine!"

Eyes Wide Shut Linda McP has this to say about her pick, "Definitely a Kubrick study-in-humanity film and definitely one that is difficult to watch with anyone...especially Mom and Dad! Keep your eyes wide OPEN and be sure you are watching with someone with whom you can have a philosophical discussion about the merits of the film afterwards."
Now for some classic stories from the comments section: From shy_baby: "A couple of months ago I went to the Jamie Foxx concert with my boyfriend and his parents. Talk about UNCOMFORTABLE, Jamie was so explicit with his jokes and his songs were pretty much all about sex. And to top it off he had very scantily clad dancers popping and dropping like strippers. I would have enjoyed the concert if I wasn't so concerned about how my bf's parents were feeling, LOL." From swwonder: "Not a movie but Sex and the City. Oh and I watched the south park movie with my uncle, if you've seen it and heard the first song you'll get the discomfort." From Carebear144: "I made the mistake of watching Jarhead with my parents, and the scene where Jake Gyllenhaal is dancing around with only a Santa hat covering him up was excruciating. Also, I watched Monster's Ball with my parents, and the sex scene between Halle Berry and Billy Bob Thorton is uncomfortable enough on its own, but it was unbearable with my parents in the room!" From spacebear: "Meet the Fockers was so difficult to watch! Each time I laughed I thought my mom was looking at me like "how does she know that?" and the same was going on vice versa! Unfaithful was SO uncomfortable. We didn't talk about it and when we got home my sister asked how the movie was and my mom just answered 'it was a lot of humping'" From sigmaration: "I once watched American Beauty with my parents... and the sex scene between Carlolyn and the real estate guy was bad enough... but then the phone rang in the middle, my mom paused the DVD, RIGHT DURING THAT SCENE.... so we all stared uncomfortably at a still shot Annette Benning with her legs splayed in the air while she was gettin' it from the real estate guy. For like 20 minutes. It was a nightmare."

What's Buzzworthy? Embarrassing Movies to Watch With Parents

Here at the Sugar offices, we recently got to talking about what movies we could watch with our moms for Mother's Day, which inevitably led to a discussion about which movies not to watch with our moms. Someone warned against Because I Said So, which seems like an easy-breezy fun chick flick, but features an uncomfortable scene in which Mandy Moore's character explains to her mother (Diane Keaton) exactly what an orgasm is like.

Another suggestion was The 40-Year-Old Virgin, which Molly made the mistake of sitting down to watch with her future in-laws at their home on Christmas Eve. Also - though it's not a movie, per se - I can advise from experience to avoid Robin Williams' Live On Broadway stand-up special - unless your folks are prone to falling asleep before the end of things. That last drawn-out joke about oral sex is brutal.

Now, fess up: Which movies have you blushed and cringed through in the presence of your mom, dad, grandparents, in-laws, etc.? Glee-ful Highlights From Episode "The Spanish Teacher"

Glee goes Latin this week when guest star Ricky Martin stops by to shake it and teach Mr. Schue a thing about Spanish (which, despite being a Spanish teacher, he does not know). A couple more people find out about Finn and Rachel's engagement, though Mercedes and Sam are still far more unclear about their relationship. Sue also announces a highly frightening desire to be a mother while clawing at the chance to be a tenured teacher.

There are some fun numbers this week, but they couldn't distract from the fact that this episode is all over the place. A couple of the subplots are just plain ridiculous, but it's not totally without its highlights, so let's go over them after the jump.

5 Reasons to Be Grateful You're Single at Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a holiday full of lots of family and friend time. With everyone's significant others around the table, you may have a moment or two where you're feeling a little bit of lack, or even lonely. When the question comes up, and it certainly will if you've got a family like mine, take a breather and give yourself a quick reminder. There are so many reasons to be grateful for the place that you're in today, regardless of whether you've got a beau on your arm or not. Here are five things to remember, and get grateful for, this Thanksgiving.

Quality time with your people. It can be a little bit of a battle to figure out where the two of you will spend Thanksgiving. Instead of stressing about splitting the time evenly, all you have to worry about is spending quality time with your family and friends.
Holiday movie marathons. While the Christmas movies are starting to pop up on TV, you know that Thanksgiving kicks off the endless supply of full-blown holiday movie marathons. No need to worry about missing back-to-back showings of A Christmas Story and Miracle on 34th Street while the boys are watching what seems like an endless supply of football.
Pure freedom. You are the center of your world right now. You've got the privilege of coming and going as you please. There's plenty of time to consider someone else in your future, but right now focus on the abundance of options you have in your life today.
Skip the drama, mama. No need to stress about your fam not getting along with your boyfriend, or not so secretly cringing when your brother embarrasses you in front of everyone. The only thing you've got to be worried about this holiday is getting first dibs on your favorite Thanksgiving foods.
No settling for this girl! There's a reason you're not in a relationship right now, and it's because you're not looking for anyone, you're looking for the right person. You are awesome enough to recognize that. And that's something to be grateful for.

Jennifer Garner Fits Another Lunch Date Into Her Busy LA Schedule

Jennifer Garner ran errands and stopped for lunch at Lemonade in LA yesterday. She's been sticking to an active schedule, including a meal with pals Rosemarie DeWitt and Gina Torres Wednesday, since announcing the news of her third pregnancy in August. Jennifer may soon take her bump on the road for an Oct. 20 screening of her upcoming movie Butter in Austin, TX. The film won't be released until 2012, but Jen and Olivia Wilde debuted Butter in Toronto recently regardless. Hugh Jackman also stars in the picture, and he recently talked to us about his and Jennifer's embarrassing kissing scene! In real life, Jen's leading man, Ben Affleck has been directing and acting in Argo. Despite his demanding schedule, Ben took Violet and Seraphina to a farmers market last weekend.

Jennifer Garner Takes a Solo Stroll While Butter Costar Hugh Jackman Shares Their Embarrassing On-Set Moment

Jennifer Garner had a smile on her face as she ran errands around Santa Monica yesterday afternoon. She's been out and about lately and showed off her bump on a solo trip to Starbucks last week after spending most of her days with Violet and Seraphina. Ben Affleck gave his expecting wife a break when he spent quality time with his daughters late last month. He's been filming Argo near home while Jennifer's had her own movie to promote. She showed off Butter at TIFF, and we recently caught up with her costar, Hugh Jackman, who shared a funny story about working with the actress. Hugh and Jennifer had a makeout scene that required them to squeeze into a car with a crew member and the director to record kissing sounds, which Hugh said was pretty embarrassing. Butter will officially be released in 2012; though, it will have a short October run in some theaters to keep it in contention for award season.

Groupon, LivingSocial, and other "deal of the day" sites have taken the Internet (and our inboxes) by storm over the past year, with millions of people getting great deals on everything from services to entertainment to locally grown alpaca fur. While skydiving on the cheap might not be the best idea (does that make anyone else nervous?), these sites can be the perfect way to try out something you might have otherwise missed without investing a lot of cash. And nowhere is this more true than in the area of fitness.

During the past couple of years, I've used deal sites to try out new workout classes like circus arts, break dancing, mixed martial arts, and aerial yoga that I'd only read about in magazines. The results have been sweaty, hilarious, and sometimes bizarre, but it's been a fun way to spice up my workouts. Intrigued? Here are a few things you need to know:

Read the fine print. Lots of deals come with restrictions like when they can be used or at what location. Don't wait until you show up for an evening class to discover that it only works on weekends (like I did).
Purchase two. New fitness classes can be intimidating so buy two passes at once so you can bring a friend along for the fun. What's embarrassing by yourself is hilarious when there's someone else to laugh about it with.

Kristen Stewart is W's September cover girl! The Twilight star shows off a sultry look in dramatic makeup for the fashion mag as she gears up for the Fall release of the final installment in the series. Kristen already landed on the front of Entertainment Weekly in character with Robert Pattinson, and the costars were also shown getting intimate in another still from the movie. She recently switched gears to get to work on Snow White and the Huntsmen in London, but Kristen stayed focused on her vampire role during the interview. On vampires: "I f*cking love me a vampire. I was 17 when I read Twilight, and at the time it was so perfect for me. Vampires are a little dangerous - and we girls like to test ourselves."
On growing up: "I have brothers, and that so-called boyish quality was something that I was deathly self-conscious about when I was younger. I was, like, No, I’m a girl. Actually, I’m still embarrassed to say that."

Reese Witherspoon's Generation Award Acceptance Speech: Empowering or Not?

Wow, did you catch the MTV Movie Awards last night? The celebs got a little frisky and foul-mouthed, and sweet Reese Witherspoon managed to pack a lot of punch into her acceptance speech for the Generation Award! After dropping a few f-bombs and telling a dirty joke about where Chelsea Handler's mouth has been, Reese gave some pointers to other young starlets, including, "it's possible to make it in Hollywood without a reality show," you should be embarrassed by your sex tapes, and the kicker, "if you take naked pictures of yourself on your cell phone, you hide your face, people."

I thought it was great that she was so brutally honest and is attempting to make being a "good girl cool" (even Lindsay Lohan tweeted her support). But some of her points may have hit close to home for certain starlets in the audience, especially Blake Lively in the midst of her alleged sexting scandal. What do you think?
