British Stars Do Us Proud at Costume Institute Gala

Decadent glamour was the name of the game at the Costume Institute Gala at the Met in New York City last night. With a theme like "Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy" we knew to expect something amazing, and the A-listers in attendance did not disappoint. Our girl Pop US has the lowdown on all the stars and Fab US and Bella US have loads of polls, while here on Pop UK we're focusing on the British celebs who did us proud, from fashionistas Kate Moss and Stella McCartney to lovebirds Victoria and David Beckham. David Bowie and Jonathan Rhys Meyers represented England and Ireland, while Thandie Newton, Emily Mortimer and Tilda Swinton made sure British actresses were present and correct. Our girl Fab UK has British-based Love It or Hate It polls.

Bono Gets Honored at the Black Ball

Last night the charity events continued as Conde Nast hosted the 4th annual Black Ball concert in NYC for Keep A Child Alive. The event raised $1.5 million for AIDS-infected adults in Africa and India. As rumored, Gwen, Alicia and Sheryl all performed at the event where Bono was honored for his AIDS awareness campaigns. Conde Nast has kept Gwen super busy as she was at another event for the publishing house last night. I'm beginning to wonder if this woman ever takes a night off.

Webby Awards Draw Web And Hollywood Celebrities

One of my favorite geeky girls, Jessica Rose, walked last night's Webby Awards red carpet amid a mix of web and Hollywood celebrities. Rose, who is known to the world as YouTube phenomenon Lonelygirl15, will make her major film debut in the upcoming "I Know Who Killed Me" flick with Lindsay Lohan. I am pleased to say Rose already has her geek chic red carpet look down. I didn't make it to the ceremony - although geeksugar was an honoree! - but FabSugar rocked the house by paying homage to Chanel in her acceptance speech.

David Bowie accepted the Webby Lifetime Achievement Award and my faves Mike Diamond, Adam Yauch and Adam Horovitz of The Beastie Boys made a rare appearance.

De Niro & Bowie Have Big Festivals, Bigger Egos

Last night Vantiy Fair helped kick off the Tribeca Film Festival with a party attended by a variety of big names. Robert De Niro and David Bowie were among those who flashed big smiles for the cameras, but apparently there is a fair amount of tension between these two under the surface. It seems that De Niro is not a big fan of Bowie's High Line Festival, which is set to start just three days after Tribeca ends and is catered towards a younger crowd. Here's more:

But a source at the Tribeca festival sniffed to Page Six: "I think they are envisioning themselves as Slamdance to our Sundance and living off the success of Sundance."

Some High Liners believe De Niro has already sabotaged them by keeping Tribeca's public relations team, Rubenstein Communications, from doing press for High Line, the Web site reports. De Niro's flack had no comment. But one longtime De Niro pal insisted, "He could care less."

Rubenstein Communications President Steven Rubenstein denies there's any feud, adding that Bowie was set to attend last night's Tribeca kickoff party sponsored by Vanity Fair. Bowie told us in a statement: "I am afraid I have no control over the inexplicable comments from the High Line producers. I think the Tribeca Film Festival is unique and irreplaceable."

Seems like a lot of fuss over nothing. Besides, Robert should have nothing to worry about, it is his festival that's premiering Spider-man 3, which is sure to be a huge hit!
