Do You Want to See More Superman Stories?

Last week there came news that Callum Blue has joined the cast of Smallville in the role of the villainous General Zod. Blue will play the young version of Superman's future arch-nemesis in the upcoming ninth season. Not long after this news broke, rumors started circulating about a possible Smallville movie (on TV) slated for Dec. 2010, which would act as a platform for a Smallville spinoff series.

It remains to be seen whether there's any truth to these rumors at all, though it all certainly seems plausible. But after nine years of this show, plus things like Bryan Singer's 2006 movie Superman Returns, should there be a Smallville movie? Is there no end to interesting stories about Superman? Or do you think we're pretty much done with the man of steel?

Could Gossip Girl Work on the Big Screen?

It's becoming more common these days to take a popular TV show with a built-in fan base and develop it for the big screen. It worked well for Sex and the City, and some people think that it would be similarly successful for Gossip Girl. Even Leighton Meester says so: "A Gossip Girl movie could be compared to a Sex and the City-type of movie. I think that would be kind of hot."

Both stories are set around the lives of rich and fabulous Manhattanites, but Gossip Girl is so over-the-top outrageous sometimes, I have to wonder how they would up the ante for a longer, big-screen version.

Could you see Gossip Girl working on the big screen? Or is this a purely small-screen delight?

Photos courtesy of The CW

CW's Fall: Gossip Girl on Later, 90210 & Melrose Share a Night Again

Just as Fox did earlier this week, the CW has announced its Fall premiere dates and schedule, with a few interesting tweaks from last season. Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill are swapping places on Mondays - One Tree Hill takes the 8:00 p.m. slot with Gossip Girl airing at 9:00 p.m. Both premiere on Monday, Sept. 14. That "petite models" version of America's Next Top Model will air at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesdays and will lead into the CW's scripted drama about models, The Beautiful Life. Another appropriate show combo arrives on Tuesday, Sept. 8 when we are shuttled back to the '90s with the second season premiere of 90210, followed by the Melrose Place reboot. I'm having deja vu . . .

TV Tonight: The Reaper Finale

I'm not happy to see any of my favorite shows end for the season, but tonight's Reaper finale is particularly poignant, as the show was not picked up by the CW for another season and several of the show's people have already signed on for new things (including Tyler Labine and the show's creators Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters). All is not totally lost, though, as there's talk of possibly continuing the show on ABC. Anyway, I have absolutely loved this season - perhaps even more than the first - as we've gotten to know Sam's half-brother Morgan (the ever-dashing/sleazy Armie Hammer) and Ben's demon girlfriend Nina (Jenny Wade). And, of course, my two favorites, the Devil and Sock, have been consistently amusing as well.

In tonight's finale, "Sam (Bret Harrison) and Andi (Missy Peregrym) try to find Tony (guest star Ken Marino) to help them translate the scroll Nina brought back from Hell. . . . Sam challenges The Devil (Ray Wise) to a game of quarters, but they play to a draw and The Devil refuses a rematch, so Andi offers her soul as collateral." Yikes! I can't wait, and yet, I'm also dreading having to part with one of my most beloved shows. Reaper fans, what are your favorite things about the show? We can get through this together. To check out a promo for tonight's finale and share your thoughts, read more.

Gossip Girl Fans: Has Season Two Been as Good as Season One?

We still have one more episode (tonight!) left to Gossip Girl's second season, and then we will have spent two whole seasons following "the scandalous lives of Manhattan's elite." In the first season we were learning what this world of rich Upper East Siders and hip Brooklynites was all about, and season two held even more outrageous plotlines and (usually) enviable fashion. I can't wait to catch tonight's finale, but in the meantime, tell me: What have you thought of Gossip Girl's sophomore season?

TV Tonight: The Romantic Side of Reaper

Basically I just want an excuse to post the funny promo for tonight's episode of Reaper because it makes me laugh every darn time I watch it. Though it's a little silly at times, the writing on this show consistently cracks me up. Like in last week's episode when we learned Sock's (Tyler Labine) "signature" pick-up line: "Excuse me, I think you're standing on my penis." I mean . . . come on!

Tonight's episode promises more sleaziness from Sam's (Bret Harrison) um, half-brother, Morgan (Armie Hammer) as Sam works to win Andi (Missy Peregrym) back. Seriously, though, the promo after the jump is a treat all its own. To watch, read more.

Interview With a Devil (or, You Know, Ray Wise)

Speak of the Devil! No, seriously. Ray Wise brilliantly plays the Devil on the out-of-this-world CW comedy Reaper and I recently got to chat with him one-on-one which, you might imagine, was a little bit intimidating at first. I mean, he's a scary dude! But once we got talking it was clear that Ray Wise himself is just a nice, not-demonic man - though he does have a deep-rooted love of vampires (specifically Brahm Stoker's Dracula). Best of all, though, he's made up a word to describe the genre in which Reaper probably belongs: horramedy! That's horror + drama + comedy. I dig it.

It was a fun conversation with the guy who plays one of my favorite characters on TV right now. Check it out. . . .

Buzz: It seems like you have a lot of fun playing the Devil.

Ray Wise: Oh yeah, I have the most fun.

Buzz: Do you base your performance of the Devil on anything or anyone in particular?

Ray Wise: (chuckling) No. No, I'm very steeped in the mythology of the Devil, and I've seen all the great Devils in the movies. . . . There have been a number of great Devils, good ones, ones that I've enjoyed - and all different. . . . But mine, I think, is probably more different than any of them in that there’s a certain charm to my Devil . . . and also the sense of humor is increased in my Devil, and plus, you know, he's . . . resplendent he likes to wear nicely tailored suits and ties and he takes very good care of himself.

For more of my interview with Ray Wise, read more.

Buzz: I've read that you're a fan of Brahm Stoker's Dracula.

Ray Wise: Oh yeah. Ever since I was a kid, you know, I have a first edition of Bram Stoker's Dracula, got it when I was about ten years old and I’ve read it, I don’t know how many times, quite a few times. And I've enjoyed some of the other Draculas over the ages, like Frank Langella’s and some of the others. But I’ve never really felt that they've . . . ever captured, truly, the real Dracula in that book and of course, being half-Romanian myself, I feel a kinship with the character, so it would be my dream to one day soon to play the ultimate Dracula and really do a great job on the book.

Buzz: Does the supernatural stuff on Reaper appeal to you in that sense?

Ray Wise: Yes, yes, all of it, it really appeals to me. . . . Some of these characters and some of the special effects are just incredible. And I enjoy feeling, just momentarily, that sense of power, that one would feel if they did have that ability, some of the abilities that the devil has. It feels very empowering as you’re doing it.

Buzz: Is it fun doing such a silly comedy after doing so many years of so much drama?

Ray Wise: Yeah, boy, yes, it is. And be able to make people laugh and to make myself laugh while I’m working, it’s a gift. It’s a great feeling and I’m really enjoying it. This whole comedy thing is a lot of fun!

Buzz: Yeah, I appreciate the silliness of Reaper so much because it’s refreshingly different from everything else on TV right now.

Ray Wise: It is, isn't it? I mean, it’s pretty much all by itself, I think. I call it a horramedy: It’s horror, drama and comedy, all wrapped into one. . . . And I don't think there are any other horramedies on television! And even in the movies there aren’t many horramedies so we’re pretty much exploring that genre all by ourselves.

Buzz: I’m enjoying this season so far as we see the deepening of the relationship between the Devil and Sam.

Ray Wise: Yeah, and you're going to see the Devil interacting with some of the other characters too, so it's not gonna be just the Devil and Sam anymore. And we're kind of getting a little bit away from that escaped-soul-of-the-week thing and like you said, getting into the personal relationships between the characters which is infinitely more interesting, I think.

Buzz: Personally, I think it's really fun to see the Devil thrown off every once in a while.

Ray Wise: Mm-hm. Or appear to be thrown off!

Buzz: Ah, that's right. Nobody can ever out-Devil the Devil, I guess.

Ray Wise: Yeah, he likes to think of himself as always being in control. And I think, pretty much, he is.

TV Tonight: Reaper's Back!

It feels like it's been an eternity in hell since we last got to hang out with the Devil, Sam, Sock, Andi and Ben. Have you missed them as much as I have?

Last we heard on Reaper, Tony tried to trap Sam - only to bury alive Sam's dad instead. In tonight's season two premiere, Sam, Ben and Sock return from a long road trip to find themselves fired from the Work Bench and pretty much homeless. Meanwhile, Andi is rather peeved at Sam for not letting her know where he was for several weeks, and the Devil has a scary and challenging soul-catching assignment for Sam. Also, Sock finds an attractive girl living in his mom's house while his mom's away.

I've already seen the episode and while it's nothing too-too different form the same old Reaper goodness, it really does deliver the laughs. I didn't realize how much I was missing these guys - Sock especially - until they made me belly-laugh for an hour. To check out a preview of this season, which kicks off with tonight's premiere, titled "Episode IV: A New Hope" (ha, Star Wars), read more.

Brittany Snow Cast as Lily in Gossip Girl Spinoff

Casting rumors about the new Gossip Girl spinoff swirled earlier today and now we've got some confirmation: Brittany Snow has been offered the role of young Lily!

We already knew Krysten Ritter would be playing her older sister, and in addition to finding Lily, the show's creators also cast Shiloh Fernandez as Owen, "a hot Valley punk guy with a caustic wit." Here's a new rundown of the show's plot from The Hollywood Reporter:

Overnight, Lily has to transition from a life of luxury and education at a wealthy Montecito boarding school to living deep in the San Fernando Valley she once made fun of and going to public school. Caught between two worlds, Lily dives into the fast-paced Sunset Strip and the Hollywood lifestyle of the '80s, journeying over the hill to a world of wealth and excess that used to be her own.

I enjoyed Snow on American Dreams, and I'm going to keep an open mind about her in this role, but I want to hear from you - is Snow the right fit? Can you picture her as an '80s wild child in Los Angeles? We'll get our first look at her in the role during a special Gossip Girl episode May 11 - which, incidentally, will also feature No Doubt.

Source

Privileged Rundown: Episode 16, "All About Confessions"

This week's episode of Privileged really is all about confessions! Big reveal-y ones, too, from Charlie to Megan, from Rose to Zach (and Zach to Rose!), from a strange blond woman to Rose, and from Sage to a Catholic priest. Lots going on this week in lush Palm Beach - and none of it has to do with Megan's family. Are you glad to get a reprieve from her family drama? Or did they just replace one kind of drama with another?

If you want to talk about this week's episode (spoilers ahead!), read more.

Last things first: Just as actress Ashley Newbrough promised, Sage reveals a big secret at the end of the episode - that she feels like she caused her parents' deaths. Yikes! I'm anxious to find out what she means by this.

One of my favorite lines of the episode also comes from Sage as she nervously walks to church with Luis: "It's been a long time since God's seen me. I mean, should I change my outfit?"

Rose's storyline went from sweetly adorable to mega-drama right quick. I love that Zach is touched by Rose stalking his ex-girlfriend (who, to Rose, seems "really lovely"), and that Rose then wants to hurry home so she can watch Battlestar Galactica while talking to him on the phone. But then that blond lady approaches Rose and reveals that Miles is her grandfather. The big drama seems like it's coming next week: Rose getting on a plane, all serious-like, with Sage pleading with her not to leave "like this."

But before the drama kicks in, how cute is it that Zach met his ex at space camp? I also loved Rose saying that she expected her sexual experience would "bend the whole gender-power dynamic" and then confessing that Megan had made her read Backlash.

I couldn't be more grateful for the lack of Lily problems in this episode. I just have such a hard time with that character sometimes. But this week she was practically likable. And I got a kick out of Charlie's line: "So I meant to ask you: How was jail?"

Could've used a lot more Marco, though the image of him wearing um, just a bow, and singing "Would You Light My Candle?" from Rent definitely cracked me up. A dash of Marco in the episode is always better than no Marco at all.

It felt to me like the Charlie-Megan kiss was way rushed, but I guess it was going to have to happen sometime, and it's still up in the air whether or not Privileged will get a second season so might as well speed up the action. I guess?

Will's behavior in this episode infuriated me. What did you make of all of that? The macho posturing that both men exhibit at the bar is just ridiculous. I get that Will feels like he plays second fiddle to Charlie, but the whole beer pong thing is so unnecessary. Then again, I can't believe I'm making an impassioned point about beer pong.

Also, where do you fall on Mandy's statement about Megan? "You play all sweet and adorable, but the truth is, you're completely selfish." I'm generally inclined to take Megan's side over Mandy's, and I don't think Megan intentionally caused anyone harm, but I do think she can be naive.

It's refreshing - though bittersweet - to see Megan and Charlie finally have a frank discussion about their feelings and the nature of their friendship. It seems so real and honest when Megan tells Charlie that he's the most important person in her life because that really has always seemed to be the case. She's not just saying it to make him feel better.

Man, I'm going to miss Charlie.
