Jeff Bridges is the winner for this year's Golden Globe for Best Dramatic Actor category for Crazy Heart! He beat out George Clooney, Morgan Freeman, Colin Firth, and Tobey Maguire. Do you agree with this win?

Crazy Heart is all about Jeff Bridges. Comparisons are already being made to Mickey Rourke's performance in The Wrestler, and I can see the similarities (an aging performer, the search for forgiveness. .

Is Colin Farrell having a career resurgence? I'm seeing the actor everywhere this week thanks to new release The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus and an uncredited cameo in Crazy Heart (check back later for my reviews of both films).

The trailer for Crazy Heart notes that both stars Jeff Bridges and Maggie Gyllenhaal have been nominated for Oscars, and the solemn, raw tone of the film looks an awful lot like awards show bait for these two big talents. Jeff Bridges stars as Bad Blake, a grizzled, hard-livin', lovin', and drinkin' country singer/songwriter who's known for his amazing music, and Maggie Gyllenhaal plays the journalist he eventually falls for.
We don't see a ton of plot in the trailer, but the story seems like a familiar one, complete with introspection and a soft country anthem that fits the title.

A blockbuster superhero movie can certainly get the casting directors interested: Both Jeff Bridges (Iron Man) and Maggie Gyllenhaal (The Dark Knight) will have won over critics and audiences alike come Summer's end, and now they've added another project to their schedules. Along with Robert Duvall, the two will star in a "music-based drama" based on a book by Thomas Cobb titled Crazy Heart.
The good news.

Colin Farrell's having a bit of a career resurgence thanks to his recent cameo in The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus and a memorable role in Crazy Heart. His latest movie, Ondine, is a fantasy that flies in another direction than you'd expect from the Irishman.

Anne Hathaway joined Academy President Tom Sherak this morning in LA to announce the nominees for this year's Oscars. As expected, there was lots of love for Avatar — the film is up in a total of nine categories, as is The Hurt Locker, including Best Picture and Best Director nominations for both James Cameron and Kathryn Bigelow. This is the first year with 10 films in the running for Best Picture, and The Blind Side scored a spot next to films like Up, Inglourious Basterds, and District 9.

The 2010 Oscar nominations were announced this morning, and many of the nominees have already heard their names in the running for something. But like any award show, there are a few surprises — and though a lot of my predictions did come true, I found myself both pleasantly surprised and a bit disappointed at the inclusion or exclusion of some nods.
- Maggie Gyllenhaal proved to be the dark horse in the supporting actress category for her role in Crazy Heart — she hasn't received any recognition this award season yet, and as a Gyllenhaal fan, I'm proud of her.
- Though it was almost certain that Kathryn Bigelow would get a Best Director nomination for The Hurt Locker (especially coming off her Director's Guild win), it's worth noting that she's only the fourth woman to ever be nominated in the category — and if she wins, she'd be the first woman to ever take the honor home.
- Up made it into the Best Picture category!

"Remorse" couldn't have been a more appropriate title for this week's House. Just when you think the doc's therapy didn't have any effect on his cold heart, his conscience pops up in the form of a former med school classmate. But while House experiences pangs of guilt, his new patient Valerie can't feel the slightest tinge of, well, anything.
