"PaulaGate" Post-Off: Your Theories, Please!

The more I think about Paula Abdul's now-infamous slip-up - criticizing a song that was yet to be performed on last night's American Idol - the more ridiculous it gets. Popwatch has a report from inside the auditorium on what they've dubbed PaulaGate, saying even the audience was audibly snickering as Paula launched into her critique.

Paula's since given two explanations for what happened - one that she accidentally gave Jason Castro the critique meant for David Cook, the other that she gave Jason feedback based on her notes from the dress rehearsal. Considering that Paula's feedback for Jason was negative but her comments for David were positive, the first theory seems pretty implausible - but the second one could make some sense.

Of course, there are a few other possibilities, too - namely that Idol is more scripted than it claims to be and/or that Paula is crazier than we even thought. So, consider this your opportunity to post your conspiracy theories on PaulaGate and Idol in general. Is it scripted? Breaking Dawn Part 1

Twilight's star-crossed lovers Edward and Bella (Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart) tie the knot in this installment, but their idyllic honeymoon is interrupted when they discover that vampires can, in fact, impregnate humans. Bella is willing to do anything to protect the life of her baby, Edward will do anything to save Bella, and Jacob tries to keep his wolfpack at bay. The movie goes quickly from cheesily romantic to surprisingly graphic, but the film is very loyal to the book. DVD extras include a six-part making-of documentary, a wedding video, a Jacob featurette, and a commentary track with the director.

A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas

Harold and Kumar (John Cho and Kal Penn) reunite for this holiday-themed sequel, the third part in their drug-fueled comedy series. This time, the guys have grown apart (Harold is now a husband in the suburbs while Kumar is a slacker in the city), but Christmas Eve hijinks force them to work together and grow close again. The boys - and Neil Patrick Harris - are as raunchy as ever, but this installment is as funny as the original, and festive to boot. DVD extras include deleted scenes.

Channing Tatum is one of the stars of Steven Soderbergh's latest thriller Haywire, which is a conspiracy-theory-type story centered around leading lady - and former MMA champ - Gina Carano. He spoke about what it was like going toe-to-toe with Gina in the movie, which is out on Friday, Jan. 20. Channing also shared about actually being ab-to-ab with a roster of hot costars like Matthew McConaughey and Matthew Bomer in the upcoming Magic Mike. Channing and Steven collaborated yet again on that film, which is loosely based on Tatum's experience as a male stripper back in Florida. As we've already seen, Scarlett Johansson has handled her nude photo scandal with refreshing confidence, being unapologetic about sending the pics to her then-husband Ryan Reynolds. So it's no surprise that she had a great attitude and sense of humor about the debacle on last night's Late Show With David Letterman. But she was straightforward about feeling violated by the hacker, who is facing 121 years in prison for hacking into the email accounts of 50 celebrities. Gone Trailer: Amanda Seyfried Is Hot on the Trail of Her Sister's Abductor

Amanda Seyfried must have enjoyed being on the run for In Time, because she's still hustling in the trailer for Gone. She plays Jill, a teen who thinks her sister Molly has been kidnapped after she disappears from their home one night. The police aren't as suspicious, but Jill has a conspiracy theory. Jill had been kidnapped by a serial killer two years prior and escaped, and she thinks the captor came back for her, but nabbed Molly instead. The cops won't believe Jill, and she becomes a target when she goes rogue and tries to track down the killer herself before he can murder Molly.

Gone seems like an interesting mystery, but it doesn't look like it's got any tricks up its sleeve (I'm even willing to bet that the killer is one of the nay-saying detectives). The whole thing plays out like an overdramatic crime thriller - Seyfried gets to utter the cheese-tastic line of "I'll sleep when he's dead" - but at least the cast has a few familiar faces, like Jennifer Carpenter, Wes Bentley, and Sebastian Stan. It's worth it to see them together, so watch the whole trailer after the jump.

Our favorite captain, Sir Patrick Stewart, sat down for a live Nerdist podcast with Chris Hardwick this week to chat about his time on Star Trek: The Next Generation, his upcoming voice work on American Dad, and how he first met Ricky Gervais. We dug up some interesting tidbits that geeks will love about Patrick Stewart, thanks to the podcast. Check them out below!

He once fell asleep standing up while filming a scene on TNG. Apparently, the film footage is still in Paramount's vaults.
"The Alphabet Song" was originally filmed with choreography as a private gift for creator Gene Roddenberry's birthday, and the piano track was added in later (in the wrong key). Obviously, it was never meant to hit the Internet.
During the first season of TNG, he thought that the cast and crew "screwed around" too much (he was very serious about the work), so he gave them a pep talk about shaping up. He said "I could do this, because I was the captain and a lot older."
He credits Levar Burton, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, Michael Dorn, and Marina Sirtis for giving him a sense of humor.
When Ricky Gervais initially called him to work on Extras, he was in a supermarket and thought that it was a friend who does excellent impersonations.
He's not a comic book fan and had to be talked into doing X-Men.
He says that America has never forgiven him for slapping Julia Roberts in Conspiracy Theory.
When asked what he has learned about himself through acting, he said "Not to be afraid. I was fearful for years, afraid of being myself; I was a great faker. . . . Getting rid of fear, and that's what I say to all acting students when I talk to them, that it's the most important thing they have to free themselves of, because they are not expressing themselves when they are afraid of being themselves."

Pilot Scoop: Homeland

Our preview of Fall TV continues, and today we're checking out one of Showtime's new original series, Homeland, a drama that's bringing Claire Danes back to TV. Danes plays a CIA agent working for homeland security who becomes worried that a recently rescued POW is actually a spy working for Al-Qaeda.

What it's about: When a prisoner of war who has been missing for eight years suddenly turns up, agent Carrie Anderson (Danes) becomes suspicious of the circumstances because of a tip she'd received months earlier. She believes that the rescued soldier, Sgt. Nicholas Brody (played by Damian Lewis), was turned while he was imprisoned and is now a terrorist. Anderson conducts her own investigation while the series shows you both her and Brody's perspectives.

Where it works: The pilot does a great job alternating between making you believe Carrie's theory and making you doubt it. By the end of the pilot, you still don't know if Brody has been turned or not, but by seeing his experiences - including his efforts to re-assimilate into his family and his flashbacks of being tortured - you deeply sympathize with him.

Where it doesn't: The psychological mystery is the most compelling aspect of the show, so if it's solved soon, it may be less interesting as a straight highbrow political drama.

You might like this show if: You love a good conspiracy theory.

When it's on: Sundays at 10 p.m. on Showtime starting Oct. 2.
