So, the writers' strike is dunzo — but that doesn't mean we're getting our shows back right away. It generally will take between four and six weeks to get a comedy back on the air, while dramas will need six to eight. CBS became the first network to announce when its shows will return, and NBC followed soon after.

Need something new to watch now that the writers' strike is snatching your old favorite shows away? Fear not: The TV calendar is about to fill up with new shows and season premieres of some old favorites. Even more than usual this year, this list is subject to change as networks try to figure out their strike plans, so I'll do my best to update as schedules shift — most finales dates, for example, could change if shows go back in production.

In terms of end-of-the-world movies, 2012 packs it all — a love story, teary family moments, action-packed adventure, over-the-top-CGI, and a ton of recycled film cliches — in a two and a half hour package. That's lengthy by today's standards, but I wasn't bored for a minute. This is pure escapist entertainment.
