Buzz In: What Bands Do You Want to See Reunite?

I spit out my drink in laughter when I read that an MTV reporter asked Mark Wahlberg about the possibility of reuniting with the Funky Bunch during an interview to promote The Happening. Even more astonishing than the question itself was that Wahlberg was a good sport and answered with, "Part of me would love to run around and act like a freaking a–hole again but I can’t do that." It would be hilarious if he'd reunite with those guys, though. His brother certainly has no problem rejoining the boy band that made him a household name.

That got me thinking about which bands I would love to see reunite for an album or a tour. The first group that sprang to mind was Sleater-Kinney, which sadly went on an indefinite hiatus in 2006. I was also glad to see the The Police announce a world tour, but I'm still holding out for a new album.

Gwen and Gavin Hold Hands at the Heart Foundation Gala

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale were inseparable as they posed for pictures on the red carpet last night at the Heart Foundation Gala. The organization raises money to help research and fight heart disease, and the charitable evening included a performance by Michael Bublé, with Ryan Seacrest handling MC duties. Gavin and Gwen stepped out in support of the cause alongside stars including Chelsea Handler. Gavin took advantage of a 10-day break from playing with Bush to spend the evening with his wife. The band will make several stops in Canada, along with the Midwest and Northwest, before wrapping up their latest tour late next month. In the Fall, it will likely be Gwen's turn to hit the road. No Doubt's reunion album will hit shelves on Sept. 25, the band announced last week, and the foursome are expected to tour widely in support of the new CD.

Gwen Stefani, Gavin Rossdale, and their sons Zuma and Kingston headed to Gwen's parents' house in LA yesterday to celebrate Easter. The boys were in their Sunday best as they arrived for the visit, and Gwen also looked Spring ready in a seersucker outfit carrying a pot of yellow tulips. The family of four was back home in California for the holiday weekend after taking a trip to Mexico at the start of the month. Gavin has been busy jetsetting between his band and big-screen commitments for months but joined his love ones for the south-of-the-border getaway during a rare break. After returning home with them to spend Easter as a family, he'll be hitting the road again with a show in Illinois scheduled for tomorrow night. Gwen is also gearing up for a busy 2012 of her own - No Doubt's long-awaited reunion album slated for release before the year is out.

American Reunion: A Yearbook of Bad Memories

In 1999, a raunchy comedy called American Pie became an instant high school movie classic boasting the tagline "There's something about your first piece." That line feels truer than ever upon the release of American Reunion, the third sequel in the franchise. The film tries to capture the humor and spirit of the original film, but all it does is make you wish the Pie films had quit when they were ahead.

Thirteen years after graduation, we find Jim (Jason Biggs), settled down with former band geek Michelle (Alyson Hannigan). Their once-spicy sex life has dwindled following the birth of their first child, and he's mostly lost touch with his former BFFs Oz (Chris Klein), Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas), and Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas). To remedy the situation, the foursome vows to have a boys' weekend back in their hometown for their high school reunion. Of course, the weekend becomes a disaster complete with binge drinking, surprise sexual encounters, awkward moments with former classmates, and a relentless amount of incredibly obnoxious one-liners from Stifler (Seann William Scott).

Getting caught up with Jim and the gang might have been more fun if there hadn't been two more Pie movies between the original and this one; we already have a good sense of where the characters have been and how they've evolved (or haven't, in most cases). Plus, you can garner what's happened to each of them in the first ten minutes, and after that you're just trying to watch a bunch of 30-somethings relive their glory days. We already saw this movie, and it was called Grown Ups.

The Pie movies have always relied on objectifying women for laughs, but American Reunion takes it to a new level. The guys ogle teenage girls at the lake, where they're wearing thong bikinis and making out with each other in front of their friends, because according to the movie, that's what all high school girls are like now. It's not just the teens either: there's a full-on catfight between two of the female leads, and the weight gain of one of Stifler's former hookups is played for gross-out laughs that's not just unfunny; it's downright mean.

The best part about American Reunion is that it incorporates some awesome '90s hits like "My Own Worst Enemy" and "The Freshman," but even that only happens in the final 20 minutes of the film, when you're already so burned out on sight gags that you barely have enough attention span to notice the soundtrack.

The same goes for all the cameos: it's fun to point out the throwbacks to the original, and I appreciated that John Cho (aka "the MILF guy") has a much bigger role this time around, but it's not enough to justify a film that's overlong and over the top. It made me realize that when it comes to the Pie franchise, I've had my fill.

It's been a good nine years since we last saw the cast of American Pie together on the big screen in 2003's American Wedding. Next month, all of the original cast members, including Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Seann William Scott, Mena Suvari, Tara Reid, and Chris Klein, reunite in American Reunion - check out the American Reunion trailer. Their global press tour kicked off today, with Jason, Seann, Tara, Chris, and Mena getting together alongside Eugene Levy to actually sample pies during a photocall in Sydney, Australia. There will be plenty more press opportunities to come before the project's release on April 6. Stiffler, Jim, and their "band geek" originated back in 1999, but tell us - are you excited to finally see more from the American Pie crew?

If you didn't know who Joy Williams was before tonight, we guarantee you will be hearing a lot more about her in the months to come. Joy's one half of folk duo The Civil Wars with Johnny Depp lookalike John Paul White, and the first-time nominees won two Grammys tonight: best folk album and best country duo/group performance for their 2011 album Barton Hollow. They are also one of the performing groups to hit the Grammy stage tonight! Here are five things you should know about this woman who rocks (including her Taylor Swift and Adele connection!):

Hailing from Santa Cruz, CA, Joy was 17 when she signed a recording contract with Reunion Records, balancing a singing career with finishing up high school. She began her career as a contemporary Christian music artist before leaving Reunion and founding Sensibility Music with her husband. Then one of her first songs on her own label, "Charmed Life," appeared on the season finale of Grey's Anatomy in 2009.
Joy's been married since 2004, and it's not to her Civil Wars partner. Joy's happily paired up with her manager and Sensibility Music cofounder Nate Yetton.
In 2009, Joy formed The Civil Wars with John Paul White, whom she met at a songwriting session in 2008. Their first studio album, Barton Hollow, was released in 2011 and debuted at No. 1 on iTunes's album sales chart and at No. 12 on the Billboard 200. The band even opened for Adele's 2011 North American and UK concert tour.
Joy, 29, and her husband are expecting their first child in June. Joy announced the pregnancy on Twitter Friday, saying, "My baby bump & I will see you on the red carpet."
Fellow singing starlet Taylor Swift gave Joy and The Civil Wars a helping hand when she included the band's song "Poison and Wine" on her official iTunes playlist, saying, "I think this is my favorite duet. It's exquisite." And now Joy and Taylor have a song together for The Hunger Games soundtrack called "Safe and Sound." The music video debuts tomorrow!

Gwen Stefani Steps Out as Her Kids' Line Readies For Launch

Gwen Stefani was out and about in London today wearing a newsboy cap and bright-red lipstick. The singer and designer has been hanging out with her sons in England lately, but she's still been hard at work between their family outings to the zoo, park, and aquarium. This week, we had an exclusive preview of Gwen's Harajuku Mini Line, which will be available at Target on Nov. 13. Gwen's turned her focus toward fashion for now, as No Doubt's delayed the release of their upcoming reunion album. The CD was expected to hit stores sometimes this year but the band recently said it wouldn't drop until 2012. Meanwhile, Gavin Rossdale is on the road with Bush in support of their new album, their first release in a decade.

Gwen Stefani ran errands with Kingston by her side in London today. It's Gwen's 42nd birthday and the No Doubt frontwoman, who was accompanied by her son and a friend, flashed a smile as she made her way back to their flat. Later, an oversized delivery of flowers was dropped off at the house. The lavish bouquet may have been from her husband, Gavin Rossdale, who unfortunately couldn't be with Gwen to mark the special occasion. He's been busy touring with his band, Bush, and the quartet is playing a show in Saint Paul, MN, tonight. Gwen, Kingston, Gavin, and Zuma Rossdale have been spending time at their place in England lately, with plenty of trips back and forth to LA, where Gwen has been working on No Doubt's reunion album. The Stefani-Rossdales recently met up with another American family in England, the Jolie-Pitts. Angelina Jolie and Gwen's kids had a playdate last week, during which the little ones got messy playing with paint.
