Box Office: Little Fockers Ring In the New Year

It was another lackluster holiday weekend at the box office, and once again, Little Fockers came out on top. Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller's comedy took in $26.3 million over the weekend, though it was True Grit that really made waves. The film stayed in second place with $24.5 million, but the Western has already grossed more than Oscar winner No Country For Old Men, making it the biggest film for the Coen brothers to date.

Tron: Legacy stayed in third with $18.3 million, while Yogi Bear climbed a notch to fourth with $13 million. Completing the top five was The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader with $10.5 million.

Overall, numbers were down from this weekend last year, but perhaps a new slate of 2011 movies will help the tides change in the coming weeks.

Box Office: Little Fockers Bring Holiday Cheer

Little Fockers earned top honors at the box office this weekend, but the victory wasn't so sweet. Overall, the holiday weekend estimates were down 45% from last year (which included juggernauts Avatar and Sherlock Holmes). The third Meet the Parents film took in $34 million, followed by the debut of the Coen brothers' True Grit with $25.6 million. Last week's champ, Tron: Legacy, finished third with $20.1 million, followed by The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader at $10.8 million. To close out the top five, Yogi Bear finished with $8.8 million.

As for other note-worthy performances (both good and bad): Gulliver's Travels suffered (perhaps from abysmal reviews) opened with a mere $7.2 million. On the other hand, The King's Speech reaped the benefits of a wider release, climbing from No. 11 to No. 14 with $4.5 million.

Tron Leaves Its Legacy at the Box Office

All the special effects of the futuristic Tron: Legacy were enough to lure audiences to the theaters. The sequel scored the top spot at the box office for its opening weekend, earning $43.6 million. Behind it was another newcomer, Yogi Bear, which took in $16.7 million. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader was knocked from number one and slid to third place with $12.4 million.

The Fighter reaped the benefits of a wider release and many award nominations: the boxing film was boosted from 19th to fourth with $12.2 million. Meanwhile, The Tourist stumbled to fifth place with $8.7 million. New romantic comedy How Do You Know didn't receive a warm welcome: the Reese Witherspoon/Paul Rudd/Owen Wilson flick took in just $7.6 million.

Justin Timberlake was filling in a bear sandwich Saturday afternoon at the LA premiere of Yogi Bear. We caught up with JT on the red carpet, where he shared all about his drunken dream picnic in Napa. He voices Boo Boo in the CGI live-action film, but more recently has been busy shooting Now. JT was out of commission for a bit after injuring his leg on set, though he's due to return to work this week thanks to some recuperation with Jessica Biel. It's another of JT's many film projects that's getting the award season buzz - The Social Network is gaining momentum leading up to the Oscars, earning nine Critics' Choice nominations today.

Yogi Bear Trailer Should've Stayed in the Woods

Proof that just because Yogi Bear is in CGI does not make him "smarter than the average bear": this teaser for the new live-action version of the cartoon. Dan Aykroyd and Justin Timberlake voice the duo of Yogi and Boo-Boo with Tom Cavanagh and Anna Faris playing the "human" roles, but star power can't seem to save this. New Roles For Bradley Cooper, Isla Fisher, and JT!

Today is packed with casting news for some of my favorite stars:

Isla Fisher's name is floating around for a new comedy titled Desperados. The story follows a woman who sends a nasty email to the new guy she's seeing after he goes MIA. after they have sex. I'm already a fan of Fisher, plus they're describing it as The Hangover for women - so you know I'm on board!

Speaking of The Hangover, Bradley Cooper is picking up a new gig. He'll be replacing Shia LaBeouf for Dark Fields, a thriller following a writer who ingests a few pills to better his career. What he gets is success, women - and a group of shady characters in pursuit. Comparisons are being drawn to Fight Club with Brad Pitt, so Fields could be just what Cooper needs to complete his ascent into leading man status.
Lastly, Justin Timberlake is in talks to voice Boo Boo, alongside Dan Aykroyd and Anna Faris in the live-action/CGI version of the classic cartoon Yogi Bear. You know how I feel about the live-action/CGI combo, but you've got to admit that picturing Timberlake as a fuzzy bear in a bow tie is kinda funny. Hope he brings the pic-a-nic basket!

I think my favorite of these three may just be Isla Fisher's, but which project are you most excited for?
