Model Liya Kebede Talks Minimal Makeup in Cannes

For model Liya Kebede, Cannes feels like magic. "It gets into you the minute you arrive here," she said this morning. "It's very glamorous, and I like that it's very international as well. You see all these different people from all over the world coming with their films, which is great." It's been a big year for Liya, who was named a L'Oréal Paris brand ambassador last June and is making forays into the film world. She's currently working on The Best Offer from Cinema Paradiso director Giuseppe Tornatore.

There's more to Liya than her stunning looks, though. She won a BellaSugar beauty award thanks to her philanthropic efforts. Her eponymous foundation is dedicated to improving maternal health, and she's created a clothing line, Lemlem, which helps support craftswomen in her native Ethiopia. Today, the supermodel talked about her various work endeavors and shared her best tips on beauty, the inside scoop on her own makeup routine, and more.

BellaSugar: It's pretty surreal here. Have you ever had an incredible Cannes moment?
Liya Kebede: I think you get it every time you get here. Last time, I ran into Woody Allen in the lobby. You can't believe it - it's just insane. There's so many of these great people and stars. At some point, you don't even react anymore. You get overstimulated. Every corner is some incredible person, or you go to a party and it's full of everybody. It's amazing. You just go, "I'm in Cannes!"

BellaSugar: And part of Cannes, is of course, getting made up and looking great, which you're quite familiar with, I'm sure. What's the best tip you've learned from the pros?
Liya Kebede: Less is more. If you're going do an eye thing, then don't do a lip thing. Try to find a balance about what you do. Also, nothing is necessarily specific - using a lip thing on your eye or cheeks is fine, and it works, and it's light. Play around! Nothing is so fixed.

Brad Pitt suited up in his riding gear and hit the open road in New Orleans yesterday while three of his kids, Zahara, Maddox, and Shiloh, took the family bulldog Jacques for a walk. Angelina Jolie, however, is expected in NYC to attend a conference in honor of International Women's Day.

The busy actor is back at his home-away-from-home in Louisiana, where his Make It Right Foundation is headquartered. Brad joined pal George Clooney and fellow actors Matt Bomer, Kevin Bacon, and Matthew Morrison over the weekend in a live stage reading of Dustin Lance Black's 8. They joined forces to bring awareness to Proposition 8 and marriage equality, a cause important to both Brad and George. Brad's other half, Angelina Jolie, kept the kids busy on Saturday while Brad prepped for the theater. Angelina, Shiloh, and Vivienne held hands leaving LA's El Capitan Theater Saturday after a screening of The Secret World of Arrietty. The animated film is the latest release from Disney, a company also backing Angelina's next project, Maleficent. Angelina stars in the live-action project that focuses on the story of Sleeping Beauty from the villainess's point of view.

It's Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and to raise funds and consciousness, Mary Kay has done something pretty cool. After a nationwide search, the beauty brand selected 18 women to produce short documentaries about breaking the cycle of violence. The all-women teams created three films that were narrated by Alexa Vega, Maria Menounos, and JoAnna Garcia Swisher. Want to help raise money to further spread support and awareness? For each purchase of Mary Kay's new trio of Beauty That Counts lipsticks ($13/each), $1 will be funneled to The Mary Kay Foundation, which has already awarded $3 million in grants to women's domestic violence shelters. Or "like" the brand on Facebook this month - every new "like" this month sends a dollar to the foundation, up to $1 million. Naomi Watts Shares Her Natural Beauty Tips and Tricks

Naomi Watts became the new face of Pantene's Flat to Volume collection last month, and yesterday she celebrated the appointment with a kickoff party in New York. She took the stage to speak about her latest honor and also introduced a short film about Pantene's Beautiful Lengths program, which encourages women and men to chop off and donate their locks to make wigs for cancer patients - impressively, over 20,000 real hair wigs have been donated to the American Cancer Society so far. We have a behind-the-scenes look at Naomi's shoot for Pantene, and she told us all about her beauty routine, the products she can't live without, and how she likes to keep makeup and hair care easy and quick! Naomi said:

On the one beauty product she can't live without: "I have to wear mascara or I have my eyelashes tinted because my eyelashes are completely blond. And my eyes just disappear if they're not framed well."
On how she changes her beauty routine for Summer: "Loads of sunscreen, just loads of sunscreen. The humidity just makes my hair curly, definitely and I just kind of go with that."
On her day-to-day hair routine: "It's not very much. I don't have the time, skill, or interest, really. So even before having kids but now it's really shrunk down to a bare minimum. That's why I expect a lot out of my shampoo and conditioner. But I will, if I'm doing it myself, use the triple action mousse. And then if I'm going to work and I know that I'm going to get hot irons all over the place then I'll use a little bit of the heat protector and that helps."
On picking up hair tips from working with pros for years: "You would think so, right? But I just have never done my own hair. I can't even blow-dry it. I'm a ponytail kind of girl. The best one for me is just the scrunch. Because I actually don't mind the look of, not unruly, but beach-y looking hair, slightly undone. I don't like big bouncy hair."

On what she does to look fancier to go out: "On my own time, I'm never wearing foundation. Even at night I'll just put lipstick and mascara and rouge and call it a night."
On how she came to work with Pantene: "I just got a call saying they were thinking about me and I was excited. I just thought, 'Wow, I didn't ever think I had good hair so why would they choose me?' And I think that's the whole point is that everyone should be able to have good hair. If it's well-treated, you too can have the volume and shine and I've got fine hair. So the product line that's specific for my hair type works very well with it. [You have to] stay consistent; it's not a magic potion that one uses and then overnight will have extremely different hair. It's a commitment. It's a process and I started using the products about a month ago and I have to say my hair has grown more because I'm treating it well."
