What Do You Think of Frank Miller-Directed Movies?

There continue to be posters, images and recently a teaser trailer for the Frank Miller-directed adaptation of Will Eisner's comic The Spirit. Everything we've seen so far features Miller's distinctive style - oozing with sexiness, promising violence, and rendered mostly in shades of black, white, and red.

Miller (who wrote 300) also wrote and directed Sin City, which I liked well enough (though some claim it's on the misoginystic side) and I think the teaser for The Spirit looks pretty cool. I know plenty of people who don't like this sort of thing and certainly won't be lining up to see The Spirit. I also know there are lots of fans of the comic who are salivating over every new poster we get for this project that isn't even set to hit theaters until December 25.

Gwyneth Paltrow Makes Her Annual Appearance at the Bent on Learning Party

Gwyneth Paltrow hit the red carpet in NYC last night to attend the Bent on Learning charity's annual fundraiser. She, along with yogi Russell Simmons, were on hand to receive honors from the organization, which Gwyneth has supported by attending its events in 2010 and 2009. Bent on Learning's aim is to bring yoga into inner city schools in the Big Apple. The bash was thrown by Alice + Olivia designer Stacey Bendet Eisner, who recently collaborated with Gwyneth on a special Alice + Olivia fashion guide. Gwyneth arrived just before the presentations began and rushed to her seat, but her friends like Molly Sims and Jessica Seinfeld were happy to talk about working out with the actress. Recently engaged Molly said she's done Tracy Anderson's workouts with Gwyneth, commenting, "She's so good! She's so hardcore." Jessica, meanwhile, doesn't workout with Gwyneth anymore. She said, "I used to, but she's too strong for me! I used to do [the Tracy Anderson Method] but I always change everything up every 18 months. I think it's good for you."

Need to Stash Your Stuff? Don't Overlook the Oven

On House Beautiful today, designers are sharing innovative ideas for adding additional storage space to a small home. Interior designer Chad Eisner had a particularly good idea for kitchen storage. He noted, "I've lived in small apartments, condominiums, and houses my whole life, including the 800-square-foot house I live in now. But I really enjoy entertaining, which entails having a lot of things. One storage place that goes overlooked is the oven - and I don't mean it in a Carrie Bradshaw store-your-cashmere-sweaters-and-Manolos sort of way. I mean it's a great place to store pots, pans, and large serving platters. If you're like me, you use your range a lot more than your oven. And in those instances where you do use the oven to cook, you're probably going to be using some of those pots and platters anyway."

This tip makes a lot of sense - especially for those of you who don't use your oven that often. It's also a great way to guarantee the oven is always clean. You certainly wouldn't want to store your pots, pans, and other kitchen necessities in an oven with a blackened rack or bottom, would you?

Comic Book Winners of the 2011 Eisner Awards

Despite the large Hollywood influence, Comic-Con does still include real comic books and graphic art at the show. One of the biggest events during the convention for fans, artists and comic insiders is the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards, an annual awards highlighting the year's best publications. Think of it like the Oscars of comics.
