Will Arnett and Justin Theroux Coming to Parks and Recreation

In its sophomore season, Parks and Recreation has really hit its stride and finally become the hilarious half hour it always had the potential to be. Now it's about to get even funnier: Amy Poehler's husband, Will Arnett, is going to guest star on the show in January. He'll only be on one episode and will play an MRI tech, ostensibly at the hospital where Ann works.

The hotness doesn't end there: Justin Theroux is also joining the cast, but unlike Arnett, his will role will be as a major recurring character. He'll play an old friend of Ann's and love interest for Leslie, first appearing sometime early next year. So basically Amy Poehler is the luckiest girl onscreen and off.

Movie Preview: Despicable Me, Starring Lots of Famous Voices

The same guys who brought us the Ice Age franchise are back to create another potential hit with the 3-D CGI Despicable Me. Seems like every animated movie nowadays wrangles A-list names, but the Despicable roster is even starrier than most. Steve Carell, Jason Segel, Will Arnett, Kristen Wiig, Mindy Kaling, Jack McBrayer - it's like a laundry list of my favorite comedy people. And while I sort of wish we could see them all acting together in the flesh instead of just lending their voices, their involvement really has me hyped.

The story follows the world's No. 2 villain Gru (Carell) on his plot to steal the moon - a plan that gets thwarted by three little orphan girls who challenge his evil ways when they want him to be their dad. The trailer doesn't reveal much, but I'm sure we'll get more footage as we near the June release date. In the meantime, check out the cute preview when you read more.

Will Arnett Brings His Funny Back to Fox

Will Arnett as a "rich Beverly Hills jackass"? Sign me up! Arnett is developing a new comedy for Fox that he'll co-write, produce, and star in along with key folks from the Arrested Development team.

The as-yet-untitled show revolves around Arnett's character, "a rich Beverly Hills jackass who falls in love with a charitable tree-hugging woman who can't stand his lifestyle or values." He'll be writing it alongside Arrested creator/executive producer Mitch Hurwitz and co-executive producer Jim Valley, who will also produce the show.

This is the first project since Arnett signed his massive deal to make any show he wanted, with anyone he wanted, at any studio he wanted - and so far, it sounds like a promising one. Then again, maybe that's just because l love watching Arnett play jerks. What do you think? Is this the kind of project you were hoping to see from him, or did you think he might go a different route?

Bateman and Arnett Throw Down to Promote Sit Down, Shut Up

Jason Bateman and Will Arnett may be sitting down, but they are definitely not shutting up in this new video Fox released to promote the forthcoming Sit Down, Shut Up. The animated series, which premieres in April, reunites Bateman and Arnett with their Arrested Development director Mitch Hurwitz. But if this video's to be believed, they may not be so into the prospect of working together again.

Billed as a classic fight in the Ali vs. Frasier or Frost vs. Nixon sense, the video shows the two Bluth brothers talking trash - hilarious, hilarious trash - about each other. There's commentary on Arnett's hair-hat, Bateman's brainless brain, and even a shocking secret about Arnett's physique. In reality, it's just an excuse to watch these two guys be adorable together - and what, you got a problem with that? To check out the video, just read more.

TV Tonight: 30 Rock Returns!

Jeez, it's about time 30 Rock came back. Since the NBC comedy was last on the air, it's picked up a passel of Emmys, and its creator and star, Tina Fey, has gotten wildly famous for her side job as Sarah Palin. Which is all well and good, of course - it's just been quite the wait to see the 30 Rock gang together again, doing what they do best.

In tonight's premiere episode, the first of many guest stars (Megan Mullally) drops by the set of The Girlie Show to evaluate whether Fey's Liz Lemon is a good candidate for adoption, prompting Liz to try to convince her coworkers to act normal. Good luck with that. Also, Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin) returns from his brief stint in DC to resume his position at the network, putting him toe-to-toe with Devin Banks (Will Arnett), whom Fey recently revealed is based on real NBC entertainment chairman Ben Silverman.

Things really heat up next week, when Oprah makes her highly anticipated guest appearance as Liz Lemon's aisle-mate on a flight. Steve Martin, the whole cast of Night Court, and Jennifer Aniston will be by later in this season, but for tonight, I'll take any 30 Rock I can get. Fox Hires Will Arnett to Do Something Funny

Think Will Arnett's a funny guy? So do I. And so does Fox, apparently, because the network has just given him a mammoth deal to star in a new comedy - over which he'll have virtually complete creative control.

The seven-figure deal essentially means Arnett can work with anyone he picks, have the show be about anything he wants, and take the project to any studio he chooses. Basically, he's getting millions of dollars to go make a funny show with funny people. That's the life, right? It also just adds to the awesome year for one of my favorite comedy couples, since Amy Poehler has that whole Office non-spinoff spinoff going on.

Of course, having the whole world open to you can be a little daunting - so let's help Arnett out. What's your dream Will Arnett project? And don't say Arrested Development - though, come to think of it, I would totally watch a Gob spinoff . . .

The Rocker: Major Points For Trying

There is this undeniable, crazy-intense talent that I think Rainn Wilson has yet to unleash on us, that goes beyond his hilarious and iconic portrayal of Dwight Schrute on The Office. Thanks to smaller roles that he's had, including his creepy character on Six Feet Under, I've had faith that Wilson is not a one-note actor, and that he possesses the tools to take part in a variety of genres. So, I was looking forward to his first time out as a comedic lead in The Rocker. And while the movie is far from perfect and not the laugh-riot that will launch him into major stardom, it's an excellent start.

What strikes me most about this movie is how good-natured it is underneath its gimmicky concept. If I had some teenagers to entertain this weekend, this is the kind of movie I'd love to watch with them. It's hard not to compare the overall spirit of this funny high school tale with that of other recent Summer comedies, and the biggest difference to me is that it has a warm and fuzzy center (despite the groin pain it causes the main character).

The Rocker is a feel-good movie, and I think some people might take that as code for lame. But I was actually relieved to leave a comedy in an emotional space that was, well, good. The movie opens in the '80s at a concert where the heavy metal band Vesuvius is bringing down the house. Robert "Fish" Fishman (Wilson) is the drummer whose performance high is quickly killed when the band's label insists that they replace him. His buddies in the band, including lead singer Lex (played by the always hilarious Will Arnett in giant hair and eyeliner) and bassist Trash (Bradley Cooper doing an amazing Slash impression) don't bat an eye before kicking Fish out and then, to Fish's dismay, rocket to mega-stardom.

Years later, the out-of-work Fish is persuaded to join his nephew Matt's high school band, and it's not exactly smooth sailing. Fish is middle-aged, unhinged, and more interested in being "rock stars" than his teen bandmates. As the movie progresses, Fish actually helps the band make a name for itself, and though he is an unlikely source of wisdom, Fish ends up coming to terms with his own failures and immaturities by helping his bandmates through their teenage issues.

Here's the bad news: there is often way too much time that goes by without a good laugh. But when they do score one, it's genuinely funny. Christina Applegate is especially believable as a single mom, and despite the fact that Fish is such a spaz, I was cheering for these two to get together. Fish's little heart-to-hearts with the kids are mostly contrived, but all the actors are so freaking likable it's hard not to forgive the script a little. Wilson also takes one for the team and endures a steady stream of physical assaults - including many hits to the groin - and it's funny about two-thirds of the time, I'd estimate.

Most of all, however, I realized about three-fourths of the way through The Rocker that there had been zero blow job jokes. No - seriously. And then I noted that no one had said "mangina," not once. And while those kinds of jokes have their place and have made us all chuckle at some point, I have to say it was refreshing to see a whole other group of comedians with a whole new set of jokes attempting to make us laugh.

I can't give this movie a whole lot of stars, but I genuinely appreciate the effort and left the theater with a smile.
