The Best Game Shows of My Childhood

Ever want to "grab a piece of that glowing rock"? Or "take the physical challenge"? Some of my fondest TV memories from the late '80s and early '90s come from the spate of kiddie game shows that filled many of Nickelodeon's programming hours and even helped launch Fox. With game shows making a surge on TV, I wanted to take a look back at some of the competitions I remember so fondly from my childhood - both classic and ridiculous. Did anyone else obsessively watch GUTS or dream of battling video game heroes in Nick Arcade? To see all of my nostalgic flashbacks, just hit "Start."

Beyond Carving: Decorating With Pumpkins

While the iconic tradition of carving a pumpkin is near and dear to my heart, these orange beauties are full of other decor possibilities. Consider getting crafty this season and trying an alternative approach to your Halloween pumpkin. While I'm not sure I'm completely ready to give up going under the knife this Fall, here are some fun pumpkin decoration ideas to mix things up in your home and complement your carved beauties.

Paint them up. Instead of carving, consider grabbing some paint. This stenciled option is a great idea, but don't be afraid to draw freehand. This could make for a really fun afternoon with the kids, without worrying about them getting too close to any sharp knives.
Group together. There's nothing cuter than a group of little pumpkins arranged in a large basket or mixed up with other Fall gourds and squash. Set up an Autumnal scene in an unexpected area of your house with a collection of pumpkins you've found along the way.
Glitter time. Change the orange hue of your pumpkin entirely and employ some glitter to glam up your gourd. Be sure to check out this project from Stylelist Home for DIY pumpkin magic with glitter as the star!
Let there be light. Instead of carving out the entire pumpkin and lighting it up from the inside out, turn some cute little pumpkins into votive holders. Simply snap off the stem, position the candle in the pumpkin's depression, cover it with an open-topped glass shade, and insert some pins around to hold things in place - and of course, make it safe!
Keep it au naturale. There's something so classic about one giant pumpkin sitting pretty outside of a home. Instead of going wild with all the crazy carving, enjoy a pumpkin's beauty in its most natural state. Don't be afraid to think outside the box in terms of color; orange is classic, but there are tons of bright, funky heirloom varieties you can try out. Line up pumpkins up the steps to your home, or just have one big beauty hanging solo outside, keeping an eye out on all the Halloween mischief.

OnSugar Blog: Questionable Behavior

Lots of moms like to think out loud and Jo Aaron is one of them. In her latest post to Mommy Brain, she asks her readers for some advice.

It's been quite a few weeks since I've had a chance to write. I've had the normal "busy stuff" going on that causes me to tell people when they ask how I'm doing, "I'm just super busy these days".

But there is some fun stuff I've been dealing with that I'm going to ask you to help me out with.

My son is an adorable, wonderful, happy, sweet, loving child who has recently developed the lovely habit of kicking his legs like the Lord of the Dance when I try to put anything on his lower body, i.e. a clean diaper, pants, a Pull-Up, big boy underwear (that I just wanted him to feel how soft they were against his cute little tushie), socks, shoes...

And of course, once I do manage to wrestle these things onto his body, it can be an even bigger struggle to get them off.

This issue has literally become a huge pain...no, literally, it's painful to get beaten by cute little legs a few times a day. So instead of starting a charity foundation for battered mommies, I'm asking you, my fellow parents, for any suggestions.

To be fair, I'll list the things I've tried thus far...

Not yelling and keeping my voice soft and calm as I try to reason with him.
Not yelling, but bribing him with anything I can think of that he likes...the kid could own the Disney Cars franchise at this point.
Yelling. He laughed at me.
Holding him down with my legs over his arms on the floor while he kicked his crazy wild legs. Didn't work and I felt all kinds of wrong doing it.
Having my husband do it. He got kicked. He was pissed.
Talking like Elmo. It worked once. The next day he was over it.

So if you love me, even if you just like me a little bit, you'll offer me some advice. I promise to try everything at least once, so I'm not just being the annoying friend who begs for your help and then ignores everything you've said. I even promise to write an entire post dedicated to the suggestion that works for me...or give you my first born (he's all yours!)

David Netto Gives Parents What They Never Knew They Wanted in the Nursery

It's been 10 years since David Netto shook up the world of nursery design with his modern, case-like cribs. Now, after selling his company to Maclaren, the interior and furniture designer is further expanding the stroller stalwart's home offerings with his first line of crib linens. The "serene designs, but very hot colors" are heavily influenced by the bold patterns of Marimekko and strong colors of Belgian Shoes, as well as the input of his two daughters – Kate, 9, and Madeline, 4, – who are "wild about color." The renowned designer answered a few of my questions as he showed off the four new designs.

LilSugar: What led you to do textiles at this point?
David Netto: I had always planned to. I had plans like that for a long time, but I really didn’t know how to enter that business intelligently. I had enough on my plate trying to make furniture work. To get committed to soft goods and table top . . . There’s a whole bunch of bags designed too that we just never figured out how to make with confidence.

LilSugar: What other influences came into play with the linen design?
David Netto: I wanted it to be the opposite of what the furniture was like. The white serenity and Scandinavian vibrations of all of our hardscapes have always been what we’ve set out to do, and they’re beautiful. But there’s a certain kind of friendliness that a nursery has to have, that comes from fuzzy stuff and things that aren’t sleek. So I wouldn’t have wanted to add to that since the whole premise of the furniture was if you do the architecture right, then you can have the big birds, and stuff, and it will never look that bad. Most people seem to really like bright colors. Nobody really seems to want to live in a disciplined, minimalist environment that’s top to bottom like that. I wanted them to be fun. I looked at all the things that Maclaren is already making and I thought what do I like about modern design when it’s handmade and eclectic and surprising.

I would be afraid to do something too plain. And also, that’s out there. There’s very beautiful Italian stuff, like linen with a scalloped pink edge, and stuff. I’m not going to teach anybody anything new with stuff like that.

There’s a decorating saying that I love that says, “Give them what they never knew they wanted.” Albert Hadley said that. So I’m always trying to get customers to like us who never thought they liked modernism. That’s what this is supposed to deliver as well.

Justin Timberlake Jets Out of Town Following a Wilde Weekend

Justin Timberlake removed his belt to go through security at LAX this afternoon. He took off from LA after a fun weekend that included accepting the Big Help blimp at the Kids' Choice Awards. JT also apparently enjoyed a more adult night out with his Now costar Olivia Wilde. The duo reportedly got cozy at a club, but Olivia later denied that they were anything more than friendly. She seems to have no shortage of male attention since she was also recently linked to Ryan Gosling, who looks very sexy in the new trailer for Crazy, Stupid, Love. That comedy also costars hot actress Emma Stone, who's also in Friends With Benefits with JT.

Will Arnett, Maya Rudolph, and Christina Applegate Swap Parenting Stories and Talk Up All Night

NBC's new comedy Up All Night took the stage at the Summer TCA, bringing three very familiar faces with it: Will Arnett, Maya Rudolph, and Christina Applegate. In the series, Applegate and Arnett play new parents who are trying to balance work and family while staying true to themselves. Rudolph plays Applegate's boss, though that's not going to stop her from sharing her parenting stories in the writers' room. In fact, the running theme of the panel was how they're connected by parenthood. Here's more from the panel:

The writers and showrunners are expecting to draw a lot of material from their own experience as parents. Rudolph said, "I've got three kids so I'm a crazy person. I've got stories to give stories to stories. The funny irony is that I'm the one without the kid on the show, but that won't stop me from chiming in."
Applegate quipped that her own daughter, Sadie, isn't as calm as the twin actresses who play her small-screen daughter. She also added that art is definitely imitating life, saying, "I'm still a mom who's up all night with her kid going to work. It definitely parallels a great deal."
Rudolph's onscreen persona will be that of a talk show host, not unlike Oprah. The rub? She'll be out of control backstage but totally in control for her show. Sounds like the perfect dichotomy for Rudolph, who spent plenty of time honing her Oprah impression on Saturday Night Live.
Applegate says she can especially relate to her character's need to stay hip even as a parent. She said, "I gave birth to my daughter at 39 years old, so I had many years of being completely self-obsessed and self-absorbed and doing what I wanted to do. There's a generation of people 39-40 who still say 'dude' a lot. I don't know if we've grown up entirely. I still feel like I'm in my early 20s. That's what these characters are - these sort of 'later in life' parents."
Arnett is returning to the TCA just one year after Running Wilde premiered (and was quickly canceled). It wasn't in his plan to give the small screen another shot so soon, but he said, "I wasn't really thinking about doing anything this year but I read this script and I immediately thought, 'Yeah this is something I relate to.' So whatever sort of limits I'd set for myself, they were immediately thrown out the window."

Viktor & Rolf Try to Outdo Flowerbomb With Eau Mega

Flowerbomb, Viktor & Rolf's first fragrance, has been a cult hit since it came out a few years ago. But this week, the brand quietly released its second scent, Eau Mega. Just so you all know how dedicated I am to good-smellin' stuff, I trekked all the way down to Nordstrom during lunch to sniff it, since only a few locations have the fragrance so far. Luckily, the reconnaissance on this baby is good.

V&R didn't play it safe at all, and Eau is totally different from the F-bomb, though just as playful. The atomizer is also too cute to be believed, and well worth playing with (you spray it by squeezing the big gold V&R seal on the side).
