The Results Are In: Recast While You Were Sleeping

Every other Wednesday on BuzzSugar, I post a recast challenge, where I ask you to choose new actors for a classic TV show or movie. The reader who submits the best cast wins a BuzzSugar t-shirt!

For this week's recast challenge, I turned to a Christmastime-y romantic comedy, While You Were Sleeping, and the suggested cast lists were really excellent. I had a tough time deciding on just one cast because they each had at least a few perfect actors for these roles. I particularly enjoyed all the smart, lovely ladies suggested for the main role of Lucy, like Nitachequita's idea of Joanna Garcia, sorano916's suggestion of Evangeline Lilly, and amanda44ni's idea of Elizabeth Reaser.

It also seems like the character of Peter Callaghan was a fun one to recast and I loved thinking about Brandon Routh (as suggested by niniwiskapoo24) or James Marsden (alethe16's idea) in the role.

Recast While You Were Sleeping and Win a Prize!

I was thinking today that one of my favorite rom-coms set around Christmastime, While You Were Sleeping, would make for a fun recast challenge. Sandra Bullock is super adorable in this movie and it's hard to think of replacing her, but let's give it a whirl anyway.

So which headstrong and endearing actress would you cast as Lucy (Bullock), the a lonely fare collector on the Chicago "L"? What dreamy actor could you imagine in the role of Peter Callaghan (played by Peter Gallagher), the commuter whom Lucy admires from afar (well, and eventually up close)? And what about Peter's more rugged brother, Jack (Bill Pullman), with whom Lucy ends up falling in love?

Then there's the quirky Callaghan family, including Peter and Jack's godfather Saul (Jack Warden), the boys' father Ox (Peter Boyle), and their mother Midge (Micole Mercurio). Oh, and I think we ought to recast Lucy's caring (if not a little slimy) neighbor Joe (Michael Rispoli).

Movie Night: Holiday-ish Films

So many movies, so little time. Thankfully, BuzzSugar is here to help you sort through them all! Each week, we'll choose a theme for a Movie Night and feature three must-see movies in keeping with that theme. This week's theme: holiday-ish films.

There are two types of holiday films. The ones, like Deck the Halls, that are entirely driven by holiday-based plots, and movies like The Holiday, where the action just happens to unfold over a holiday backdrop. Here are three of my favorite holiday-ish films that are fun to watch this time of year.

Love Actually

Nothing puts the warmth and cheer of the season into your heart quite like a film all about love in its various forms. Love Actually brings us many love-centric storylines at once: There are the coworkers awkwardly courting, the little boy whose world revolves around his beautiful classmate, the new marriage threatening to become a love triangle, and the old marriage starting to show cracks in its foundation. The wonderful cast (Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, Liam Neeson, Keira Knightly, and Laura Linney, to name just a few) is stellar enough to make the movie truly enjoyable, and it's even more fun to see how the stories intersect. And if you're anything like me, the real footage of people greeting loved ones at the airport in itself will be enough to get you all misty-eyed.

Beautiful Girls

In Beautiful Girls, the holidays are the perfect time for Willie Conway (Timothy Hutton) to go back to his hometown, introduce his soon-to-be-fiancee, Tracy (Annabeth Gish), to his father and brother, reconnect with old buddies, and reevaluate his life. The movie explores the idea of growing up, making sacrifices to live the life you want to live, and learning to be content with what you have. Willie's in a very mature relationship with a nice woman and lives in New York City, while his old buddies stuck around their old hometown. He befriends precocious 13-year-old Marty (Natalie Portman) next door, a fast-talking, dry-witted mini-adult who develops a crush on Willie. It's a highly realistic and funny film about the old problem of wanting what we can't have, and coming to terms with adulthood. Added bonus: Rosie O'Donnell goes on an absolutely classic tirade about women's magazines, men and relationships. Priceless.

While You Were Sleeping

Yes, the idea of someone fooling an entire family into thinking that she is their comatose son's fiancee is far-fetched. Yes, it requires some serious suspension of disbelief, and yes, the characters in said family are caricatures. Still, it's all worth it for this sweet, familiar comedy of mistaken identity. Basically, Lucy (Sandra Bullock) saves the life of a man named Peter (played by Peter Gallagher), though he is knocked into a coma in the process. When she goes to see him in the hospital, his family assumes she is his fiancee and she chooses not to correct them. She ends up spending holiday time with the quirky clan, quickly falling under their warm, charming spell. Before long, she realizes she is in love with her "fiance's" cute brother, Jack (Bill Pullman), which of course sets up an awkward situation, especially when Peter wakes up.

Sex and Hare Krishna: Mad Men's Mother Lakshmi Didn't Follow the Rules

This week on Mad Men, we get a visit from Paul Kinsey, who has gone from progressive, pipe-smoking copy editor to confused Hare Krishna devotee. The Hare Krishna movement was founded in NYC in 1966, the year that's coming to a close on this season, and attracted beatniks like Allen Ginsberg and Beatle George Harrison, one of its most famous followers. The International Society for Krishna Consciousness, or the Hare Krishna Movement, as it is officially known, is based on Hindu traditions and got the attention of the city's hippies when it started. Ironically, it did not back free love.

On the episode, Paul Kinsey's Hare Krishna love interest, Mother Lakshmi, decides to seduce Paul's friend and former co-worker, Harry Crane. Showing up at the office, she lets Harry believe that sleeping together is not against the rules of the religion. You can't blame Harry for believing her, since the Hare Krishna meeting he attended had a strong counter-culture vibe. But in fact, "no illicit sex" is one of the four regulative principles of Hare Krishna consciousness.

Sexual contact is only OK between married couples for the purpose of reproduction, and sex is considered the most powerful connection to the material world, a bond Hare Krishnas want to break. The other three rules include: no eating meat, fish, or eggs, no gambling, and no use of intoxicants. Devoted Hare Krishnas would have disapproved of Roger Sterling's acid drop. But, of course, not everyone followed the rules in the '60s and high-profile members like Allen Ginsberg disagreed with the prohibitions.

Vegetarianism and yoga were part of what made Hare Krishna exotic back in the 1960s, while its negative attitudes toward premarital sex were conventional then. Today, things have switched around. Its rule against sex for pleasure seems extreme, thanks to the sexual revolution, while vegetarianism and yoga have gone mainstream.

Tina Fey Shares Memories of Her Skinny and Chubby Years

Happy Birthday to our fave funny lady! Tina Fey turns 42 today. We've been fans of the actress, writer, and comedienne since her early days on Saturday Night Live. Like many of us, Tina's weight has fluctuated over the course of her career, and to mark her birthday, we're sharing some of her funny quotes from juice cleanses to body image.

Before making the leap from writers room to on-camera talent, Tina followed the pragmatic Weight Watchers program to drop pounds. But that doesn't mean she hasn't dabbled in more extreme techniques to lose weight. She explained to Jimmy Fallon, "I don't really believe in those [cleanses] - your body's not like a purse. You're not supposed to turn it inside out and shake it. But I was like, 'Oh, I don't care. I just need to jump-start this.' So I tried it." After an allergic reaction caused her lips to swell, she abandoned a juice cleanse. Go figure.

These days, Tina works out with trainer when she can fit a session into her hectic schedule, and if she can't, she takes a walk. She's even become a fan of yoga and the superfood kale.

Before settling into her healthy weight, Tina experienced both sides of the weight equation and shared her memories of these phases in her book, Bossypants. It's All About You, Mom! 6 Mother's Day Indulgences That You Most Definitely Deserve

Since Mother's Day should be all about you, we suggest that this year, you take advantage of the holiday and spoil yourself silly. That doesn't have to mean going on a giant shopping spree or treating yourself to a full day at the spa. Instead, take stock of the little things in life that you don't think you get enough of and ask your family to indulge you in just one or two of them. While we're sure you've got your own "wish list," here are a few fun ideas to get you started:

Phone a Friend: When's the last time you had an hour-long, laugh-out-loud conversation with a long-distance friend or family member? If you've got lil ones running around, chances are, it's been awhile. Ask your husband to hold down the fort, shut the door, and dial away.
Schedule a One-on-One Date . . . With Your Child: Whether you're a mom of one or four, we're willing to bet that you don't get as much quality one-on-one time with each of your kids as you'd like. Think of something special that you (and your child) would really enjoy doing and plan a date . . . or two, or three, or four . . .
Schedule a One-on-One Date . . . With Your Husband: Breakfast in bed with the kiddos is a great way to kick off Mother's Day . . . and adults-only dinner and drinks is the perfect way to end it!
Spend an Hour Alone: Think back to your preparent days and remember what you miss most. Prior to being a mom, did having an hour to kill mean treating yourself to a pedicure? A back massage? Window shopping? Indulge yourself for an hour, and you'll still be able to enjoy the rest of the day with your family.
Be Lazy: Whether it means sleeping in, ordering your choice of takeout for dinner, or letting a day go by without making the beds, take advantage of a "free pass" to be (just a tiny bit) irresponsible.
Reassume Your Role as Child: Even though you're all grown up, someone out there still thinks of you as her little girl. Borrow one of these ideas and start a new mother-daughter tradition with your mom.

"Sometimes I Feel Like I'm Not Good Enough"

I'm going to warn you now, that this may end up being a rant.

OK, My boyfriend and I have been together for a year, and I've been living with him for several months, instead of having sex or doing sexual things with me, he waits till I walk out of the room, take a shower, or go to sleep, and then watches porn. And sometimes bookmarks it, and everything he watches has girls that are prettier and skinnier then I am. I'm big, like fat, (5'4" and 145 lbs) but I've lost a lot of weight for him, like 30 lbs, and I still weigh more than him,(5'8" 134 lbs) but about 10 pounds compared to 40 or so, and he likes skinny girls, he plays with my fat all of the time, and tells me I don't need to change, but then bitches when I say okay, I won't. Even though I really plan on changing, I just want to see if he's still going to bitch about me saying no. He also doesn't like my boobs, or my vag, he says he wishes I was skinny, and had perky boobs, and I guess a bony vag so he can break his hips and my hips when he humps me. My boobs were all the way up to a DD when I was at my fattest, and with that and losing so much weight, they do sag. Not bad, but a little, he also talks shit about my teeth, hair, and nipples.

He gets mad at me super easily, and I'm pretty sure when he's mad, is when the truth comes out, he's talked to other girls before, like while we have been dating. But not the way he talks to me, or anything that could be considered cheating, but when I confront him about being sneaky, he says it's nothing, that I'm just paranoid, but when I say I know it isn't that, he yells at me and says it's because he found someone he likes to talk to more than me, he also calls me a fatass and a whore everytime he gets mad at me. And, I'm pretty sure this is all because I bought a car from a dude I dated, for like a week, years before I met my new bf. So I asked him to quit talking to the girl, he says okay, and doesn't. So finally months later I asked him to delete her number, and he did. But since then things haven't been the same, he doesn't ever hold me anymore, or kiss me. We still have sex, but that's all. I honestly don't feel like I'm good enough.

On another note, sometimes when he's being really sweet, he said on a scale from 1-10, I'm a 9, and my weight is the only bad thing, so I really just don't get it. If I am good enough, why would someone act like that??

Jessica Alba's Fit Philosophy

Happy birthday, Jessica Alba! The erstwhile action star and devoted mom of two turns 31 on Saturday, and to celebrate we are taking a look at how Jessica's stayed fit while enjoying life throughout the years.

Bootcamp style: It's all about high intensity for Jessica. She enlists the help of Barry's Bootcamp, a favorite with starlets in LA, to get fast results. Each workout contains high-intensity cardio intervals and strength training for an all-in-one session that saves time.

Reluctant workout: Even though she works hard in the gym (which isn't always a good thing: to get ready for a photo shoot soon after having her first child, she exercised so hard she said she cried!), she's no fitness fanatic. "I'm not a big workout person," she told Self. "Every single day, I tell my girlfriends we're starting a regimen. And then it's, like, 'Want to get dinner? Want a glass of wine?'" Jessica does, however, know how to keep workouts fun; she alternates between the gym, her treadmill at home, swimming, and yoga to keep from becoming bored.

Diet-free zone: Jessica doesn't like to diet, so instead she eats clean all the time. “Diets are for the birds. I think you have to eat in a way that makes you feel your best. I include a lot of vegetables and lean protein and fruit and grains in my diet," she told Self.

The importance of sleep: Running a company, being a mom, and starring in films can jam-pack anyone's schedule, so Jessica gets her workouts out of the way early in the morning. Sometimes, however, she knows it's healthier to catch up on sleep than continue to tire out her body. "Slacked off this am on the work out but the sleep was the best I've had in three weeks. Tomorrow its ON . . . " she once tweeted. Listening to your body is the best way to tell if you are skipping a workout because of a lame excuse or because you actually need to rest.

How to Get Your Toddler to Say Bye-Bye to Bottles

My daughter recently had her one-year checkup, and only one part left me slightly terrified. Not the fact that she is now weighing in at more than 26 pounds (no wonder my arms are looking pretty good these days). Nope, the scariest part was when my pediatrician informed me it was time to get rid of her bottles. I nodded my head and smiled, but my internal dialogue sounded something like this: "Sure, doc, and then I'll happily resign myself to a life with a child who never naps and screams herself to sleep at night."

While giving up the bottle is an important developmental step with long-lasting health implications, would my daughter really be willing to give it up? I'm happy to report, with a little research and some dedication, we're (almost) bottle-free only two weeks later. If you're in my boat, keep reading for some simple, but effective tips to get your baby off the bottle quickly and pretty painlessly.
