Um, I just about started crying at my desk right now, and it's all because of this brand-new trailer for Where the Wild Things Are. Set to a version of the Arcade Fire's "Wake Up," the trailer's full of striking shots of Max in his fuzzy costume and crown, romping on through the forest with giant, gorgeously rendered monsters. It's sweet and poignant and beautiful, and it gives me such hope for this movie, which I've long thought was too good to be true.

On Friday there leaked a brief clip from the Spike Jonze live-action film adaptation of Where the Wild Things Are, and folks have been buzzing about how adorable — yet strange — the movie looks. There's a lovely innocence to it, as well as a distinctly melancholic tone, all in keeping with the book on which the movie is based. I love that the puppet is a real thing, and not some CGI creature.

Details about the live-action adaptation of beloved kids' book Where the Wild Things Are have been trickling in over the past few months, from this NY Magazine piece talking about the quality of Dave Eggers' script, to the news that Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs will be doing some music for the film (which is directed by her ex Spike Jonze). So far, I'm liking what I'm seeing about this project, though messing around with favorite childhood books always sends up some warning flags.

Aliens and chains and vampires, oh my! The top 14 dancers on So You Think You Can Dance delivered one of the more eclectic sets of routines of the season — if not the whole series — on Wednesday, with props and quirky characters galore. A few dancers stood out, but nobody fell completely flat, which should make Thursday's results show an interesting one.

I don't often remember trailers for too long (and I'm guessing I'm not alone in that), so if they stick out in my mind they must have been truly memorable. I can still recall the trailer for Pineapple Express, which I thought was great, as were the trailers for The Dark Knight last year and, more recently, Where the Wild Things Are.
Now IFC has compiled a list of the 50 Greatest Trailers of All Time, and while viewing the list I had a few "Oh, yeah!"
