Check Out Lollapalooza, Wherever You Are

I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Sasquatch, and I'm excited to see what San Francisco does with Outside Lands, but in my mind the king of the Summer music festivals is still Lollapalooza. Now in its fourth year in Chicago's Grant Park, the festival just keeps upping the ante: This year's schedule includes headliners Radiohead, Wilco, Rage Against the Machine, Kanye West, and Nine Inch Nails, along with a lot of relatively smaller bands that I'd love to see live: Love and Rockets, The National, Girl Talk, Explosions in the Sky, MGMT, and Mates of State, to name just a few.

Luckily, this year we can once again check out the festival from afar via the AT&T Blue Room. The site will be webcasting hours of Lolla shows each day this weekend, starting around 1:15 p.m. EDT each day.

Today's lineup includes Rogue Wave, The Kills, Bloc Party, and the Raconteurs. Saturday, the site will show performances by Margaret and the Nuclear So-So's, Duffy, DeVotchka, and Broken Social Scene, among others. And Sunday wraps up with broadcasts of Flogging Molly, Love and Rockets, and The National.

Anyone out there going to Lollapalooza? Or will you be watching from afar, too?

Fab Flash: Gucci, Live From Rome

What was once reserved for the fashion elite is no more. Gucci has broken the unspoken golden rule and is inviting the public to join them in a live webcast of their 2009 cruise runway show at Villa Aurelia in Rome. In celebration of the 70th anniversary of its store in Rome, the fashion house has invited everyone - that means you and me - to view their collection at Gucci.com.

So what can we look forward to? Gucci spokesmodels Claire Danes and James Franco are expected to attend along with a music performance from British band Goldfrapp. The show is set for 8 p.m. on July 8, local Italian time - set your calenders!

Not at SXSW? Listen to the Shows from Your Computer

The sprawling South by Southwest festivals are in full swing in Austin this week, with the music portion of events kicking off today. Can't be there? Do what I'm doing and listen online, courtesy of the newly supercool NPR Music.

NPR is webcasting four concert programs from SXSW starting tonight. Tonight's lineup includes performances by Jonathan Rice and REM, while Thursday's all-day broadcast includes Yeasayer, Jens Lekman, and Vampire Weekend. Thursday night's program includes sets from Yo La Tengo and My Morning Jacket, and the program ends Friday with another afternoon lineup including The Weakerthans and The Whigs. In addition, some individual performances will be webcast by individual NPR stations, including She & Him's Friday afternoon show.

Some NPR stations will be carrying all or part of the lineup on the radio (go here to see if yours is one of them), but here's the best part: All of the NPR Music concerts will be archived, so you'll be able to listen to them -and, perhaps, even download them - anytime you want. Nothing like a little SXSW in your pocket, right?

Watch Lollapalooza From Your Computer

Lollapalooza, the comeback kid of music festivals, kicks off its three-day reign in Chicago's Grant Park today. The lineup is pretty incredible this year, with big names like Pearl Jam and Daft Punk, legends like Patti Smith, and up-and-comers including Regina Spektor, Silversun Pickups and Cold War Kids. To say I'm jealous of those of you with tickets would be a gross understatement.

Luckily, those of us who couldn't make it to Chicago this year have a chance to experience some of the Lolla magic for ourselves courtesy of the AT&T Blue Room. The site will be broadcasting several of the performances live each day from roughly 12:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Central time, starting today.

The Blue Room won't cover everything, but it's a pretty good cross-section of the artists. Today's group includes Ted Leo and the Pharmacists at 1 p.m. Central, Sparklehorse at 5:30, and The Black Keys at 9:30. Saturday's Blue Room lineup includes The Hold Steady and Ben Harper, while Sunday's Webcasts include Lupe Fiasco and Amy Winehouse.

Still, there's no substitute for being there in person, so if any of you are headed to Lollapalooza this year, please report back!

Cool Concert Webcast: Wilco's Jeff Tweedy

If you're a Wilco fan in Charlottesville, Virginia, tonight, you're probably going to the Jeff Tweedy solo show at the Paramount Theatre. The rest of us are also in luck, because Wilcoworld will be airing a live webcast of the concert tonight starting at 9 p.m. Eastern time.

I've seen Tweedy play solo on a number of occasions and have never been disappointed. He pulls material from so many sources - Mermaid Avenue, Loose Fur, random covers - that I've been tempted to make Tweedy Bingo boards out of possible songs he might play and hand them out to fans. Plus, he can be kind of a jerk, so there's always a chance he might say something shocking. Wilco's next album, Sky Blue Sky, is scheduled to hit stores May 15.

Behind the Scenes with "The Class"

This week, the CBS sitcom "The Class" is letting fans behind the scenes in a very cool way. They're filming their table read and run-through - usually reserved only for the cast and crew - and putting them online for all to see.

The table read, which is when the cast and writers go through the script for the first time, was filmed on Monday, and the run-through will be Webcast live today starting at 4 p.m. Eastern, 1 p.m. Pacific. You can get to both videos through the show's official site.

As far as I know, this is the first time a TV show has tried this, and there are a few bugs - a big one being that the video software CBS is using doesn't work on Macs. But I love the idea and would like to see some other shows try it, so

read more How fun would it be to see how an episode of, say, "The Office" changes from the time the script is written to the moment the show makes it on the air? A lot of shows are too protective of their secrets to ever try this - "Grey's Anatomy" comes to mind - but I'd love to see another show be bold enough to let its audience behind the curtain a little early. His new program, Udacity will offer free university-level computer science classes to anyone interested in advancing their tech knowledge.

The best of the best of the nation's food world glitterati are in New York this weekend for the industry's Oscars, the James Beard Awards. Although the main ceremony doesn't take place until later this evening, the events kicked off on Friday with the announcement of the book, broadcast, and journalism awards.
