Freida Pinto Gets a Role of Epic Proportions

Freida Pinto might have made her mark on Hollywood playing a girl who grew up on the streets, but she's about to tackle a role that's worthy of her beauty. She's set to star in War of the Gods, based on the Greek mythology of Theseus, the founder-king of Athens.

Pinto will play Phaedra, an oracle priestess who joins eventual husband Theseus on a journey to save mankind, with the help of a few Greek gods, of course. Theseus will be played by Henry Cavill, who is pretty dreamy on The Tudors - hey, if she can't be paired up with Robert Pattinson, this isn't a bad second choice.

Clash of the Titans Remake Gets Incredible Hulk Director

Aw, here's some news that just might break my dad's heart, seeing as Clash of the Titans is one of his favorite movies of all time. It's just like when we get indignant and protective over our most beloved movies getting makeovers (Footloose, Teen Witch, Friday the 13th, etc.). I definitely sympathize with the dismay he'll feel at knowing that Titans is getting remade, most likely with CGI Medusa snakes and everything.

Louis Leterrier, director of the most recent Incredible Hulk movie, will direct the script which is getting reworked by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan. Variety explains the story:

In Clash of the Titans, Perseus, the son of Zeus, must overcome a series of obstacles to save his beloved Princess Andromeda, including cutting off the serpent-tressed head of Medusa, who can turn a man to stone with a single glance.

Interestingly, another epic movie having to do with Greek mythology just got greenlit, with director Tarsem Singh (The Cell, The Fall) at the helm. Titled War of the Gods, the story is "set in war-torn ancient Greece, as the young warrior prince Theseus leads his men in a battle against evil that will see the gods fighting with soldiers against demons and titans." Variety points out that this "Hollywood toga party" will mean that the two movies will engage in "a full-fledged chariot race to be first."

Announcing the 2012 Oscar Nominations!

The 2012 Oscar nominations have been announced! Lots of award season regulars, like The Artist and The Descendants, got some love, but there were also a handful of surprises, like nominations for Nick Nolte, Gary Oldman, and Terrence Malick. Bridesmaids also scored big, with noms for best original screenplay and best supporting actress for Melissa McCarthy.

The Academy chose nine films for best picture, with lots of familiar titles in there, plus a couple that had early awards buzz but haven't necessarily had consistent attention, like Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and The Tree of Life. The films that racked up the most nominations were Hugo with 11 and The Artist with 10.

Announcing the 2012 Grammy Award Nominations

For the second year in a row, the Recording Academy has given a hip-hop artist the most Grammy nominations. Last year, it was rapper Eminem with eight, and this year, Kanye West leads the nominees with seven chances at the golden gramophone, including a song of the year nod for "All of the Lights." West is also nominated twice in the rap album of the year category for his collaboration with Jay-Z on Watch the Throne and his own album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Brit crooner Adele wasn't far behind Kanye, picking up six nominations for her album 21, as well as a shot at song of the year with "Rolling in the Deep."

Bruno Mars also did well, racking up six nominations (that's down one from last year for those keeping track), while newcomers like Nicki Minaj and dubstep artist Skrillex are up for the best new artist category. We've long-loved Derek Lam's namesake label; now the designer behind the minimalist, street-cool separates and chic dressing is giving us something else to gush about. His newly launched 10 Crosby collection is another foray into covetable clothing, this time with a lower price point ($195 to $895) and ultra-wearable line of easy silhouettes and fabrics. We got a peek at the new Resort collection during a sit-down last night at Barneys - and we were charmed almost as much by 10 Crosby's silky printed pajama pants as we were by the ever-delightful designer. Read what Derek has to say about the inspiration behind the new line, the best career advice he's ever received, and his holiday wish list.

Derek on the woman he had in mind when designing 10 Crosby:
I think that was the reason I used 10 Crosby as the label. There were so many great moments where someone was walking down the street and I'm like, 'God, she's super stylish, or she's very inspiring' and that's what I kind of use as my inspirations. I think 10 Crosby the address is so unique. It's one of my favorite streets in all of New York City. It's got high design, great furniture design, great fashion designers. It's a microcosm of something that I think is very special, very unique. It's got that perfect mix that I love about New York.

On the conceptual idea of 10 Crosby and his customer:
Can I say that it's me as a feminine? Truly, I think why I'm so excited about it, about doing 10 Crosby is that it's speaking to me as a consumer and I think that's really important and I think that's what keeps me really excited.

Joseph Morgan on Immortals and Why He's Pushing For Klaus to Get a Love Interest on The Vampire Diaries

Joseph Morgan has been terrorizing this season of The Vampire Diaries as Klaus, a vampire/werewolf hybrid with many decades of scheming and torture in his past. He's been a delight to watch on TV, but he's also making an appearance on the big screen this week in the 3D epic Immortals, alongside Henry Cavill (aka the next Superman) and Kellan Lutz. I chatted with Morgan this week to talk about his new film and how he feels about playing Klaus - and why he thinks it's time for his big bad villain to fall in love.

BuzzSugar: How has it been being the big villain of the season?
Joseph Morgan: It's been very, very fun; I enjoy my job immensely. I've been asked a few times, "what other character would you like to play?", and I just think I get the best stuff to do, or the most fun stuff at least. It's been great, but I feel like I've always wanted to play a character like this. When I read for the part, I got through the pages I had to read, and I looked at them like "Oh yeah, I know exactly how I want to do this." I guess because I'm a fan of the genre, [I was] subconsciously preparing for a role like this for a while, you know? It's an immense amount of fun and I get to push a lot of buttons with the other characters on set, which is always fun. And to play someone who really isn't worried about anything - there isn't any real threat to him most of the time - it's really an interesting challenge.

Buzz: The characters are trying to kill Klaus, so do you get panicked that the next script may have your death in it?
JM: Yeah, there's a little bit of that going on! Certainly, at the end of last season when I read the penultimate episode, all the way through they're talking about this plot to kill me, and I thought, what if I turn this page and that is what happens? But I trust them; if it's the end of the line, they're going to do it epically and it's going to be in keeping with the quality and the style they already put out. So I'm really not worried. I feel like if Klaus is going to die it's going to be the biggest dramatic death we've seen so far. There's some merit in that as well. But I do worry a little bit. I'm very, very happy to be a part of the show and I do feel like there's more that could be explored with this character.

Buzz: Would you ever want Klaus to get a love interest?
JM: Oh, man I hope so. I've been pushing them for ages. There's a certain amount of humanity they're bringing to the character now, which is really great, because people are starting to empathize with him, and really understand the dysfunctional background he comes from. But there's a side of a person that you only get to see when they're with someone they care about. And I think that's the side we're missing with Klaus. I think it would be wonderful if they were to introduce some sort of love interest for him. I'm confident if they think that's where we need to go, that's what will happen. I certainly keep nagging Julie Plec [The Vampire Diaries executive producer] about it.

Casting Update: Who's in For Paradise Lost

John Milton's epic poem Paradise Lost is coming to the big screen next year, and it's getting a makeover as a 3D action film, directed by Alex Proyas. The classic piece of literature describes how the angel Lucifer was cast out of heaven after he starts a war against God with his fellow archangels. It also deals with the subsequent fall of man after the he tempts Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Bradley Cooper was the first star to join the project as the devil, but the rest of the ensemble is starting to come together. See who else has also signed on and who they'll be playing in the film.

Bradley Cooper is playing Lucifer, the angel who falls from heaven and leads a revolt against God.
Casey Affleck is attached to the part of the angel Gabriel, the leader of the guards who watch over Eden.
Diego Boneta (who's starring in the upcoming Rock of Ages) has signed on to play Adam, the one half of the human couple in Eden, the home God created for humans.
Camilla Belle will play Eve, Adam's counterpart who is tempted to eat the forbidden fruit offered by Satan in serpent form in the Garden of Eden.
Dominic Purcell, best known for the TV series Prison Break, is portraying Jerahmeel, a fallen angel who joins up with Lucifer and receives a new name on the dark side: Moloch.
Djimon Hounsou is set for Abdiel, the angel of death.
Benjamin Walker will play the archangel Michael, who God names as commander of Heaven's army.
Callan McAuliffe is playing Uriel, another archangel who is second in command to Michael.
Rufus Sewell has the role of Samael, a supporter of Lucifer who encourages him to incite the rebellion in Heaven.

The Tree of Life's Jessica Chastain on Her Breakout Year, First Cannes, and "Normal" Brad Pitt

Jessica Chastain is a fresh face in Hollywood, but she's already worked with the likes of Helen Mirren, Ben Affleck, and, in The Tree of Life, Brad Pitt. Her and Brad's film, which opens Friday, just won the Palm d'Or award at the Cannes Film Festival. We chatted with Jessica just before The Tree of Life's LA premiere yesterday. Jessica clearly likes to take risks in her life and work - in fact, she arrived for our interview with a leg cast, which she said was the result of a motocross accident! During our interview, she reflected on her first time at Cannes, emotional and unexpected scenes with Brad, and her take on the movie's message. Here are highlights:

PopSugar: So, obviously, the first question is what happened [to your leg]?
Jessica Chastain: This sounds so idiotic. I got in a motocross accident yesterday. I thought it would be fun, and I really liked it, and I went way too fast. I shouldn’t have done it, especially having a premiere today. I spent the afternoon in the emergency room yesterday, because the bike fell on me and twisted my leg. Those things are heavy! It’s funny, because I was lying there, and my knee snapped. I heard this popping noise. . . so the wheels kept going and I’m pinned underneath it, and I thought, oh someone will come get me. It just felt like forever, so finally I just went, "Help! Help!" It was really, really silly.

PS: So now you'll have crutches down the red carpet tonight?
JC: Yes, but not for photos. . . I balance really well, so I’m going to stand still in very high heels and pass off my crutches, and I’ll take my pictures. There won’t be any of that walking, talking, fancy red carpet stuff, or they will have pictures of me on the carpet, lying on it. I hope I don’t fall! Oh god. I was worried about falling down the stairs at Cannes.

PS: Can you talk about what the Cannes experience was like?
JC: Yeah, it was great. I realize it’s never going to be matched. Realistically, I mean . . . it’s not really a good example of a typical time at Cannes, because I’ve got two films that both won the top prize in their category. Tree of Life won the Palm d’Or and Take Shelter won the grand prize in critics’ week. And then I also had a film there, The Wettest County, which there was a bidding war [over] and Harvey Weinstein bought it. So it was like all of this great stuff was happening, and I don’t think that’s a typical Cannes. But it’s OK, because I’m enjoying every second, knowing it will never repeated again.

When you were acting, did you think of yourself [from that perspective]? JC: When I read the script, I realized that she basically is the embodiment of grace and the spirit world. And then I thought, OK, I also have make her a real person. I had to ground her, and the only way I could think of grounding her was her love for her children. And this bond she has with her children is very important, so I had to make that incredibly real. And it actually was very real. The boys and I, to this day, we’re actually still very close. I got a Mother’s Day gift from Hunter last year, I get phone calls. . . . When the film ended, I was more heartbroken than anything that the kids went back to their mothers. I was like, 'I love the kids!' PS: How was it different with Brad? What kind of conversations did you have about building that familial closeness with your characters? JC: We didn’t really have those conversations a lot, because the one thing about Brad and my character is that there is this distance, where she’s constantly trying to reach out to him to have him open up to the family and to love. And he’s [like], "No, I’ve gotta always stay on guard, and it's survival of the fittest, and I’ve got to be the strong one." So in a way, if we’d had these bonding experiences like we had with the children, it would have made our jobs harder. But on set, the great thing about him is he could play that character and then soon as the roll was out, he was fun, nice, sweet Brad, throwing the football with the boys out in the yard, and asking me, "What kind of music do you like? That’s one thing I’m out of touch with right now is music." He’s a normal guy. PS: What about the emotional tussle you have in the house? Did you prepare for that at all? JC:We didn’t even know that was going to happen, to be honest. It was after we filmed the scene were he attacks the boy. I know for my character, she had to clean up the house, but she’s still vibrating from what happened and trying to contain it. We shot for four minutes, going back and forth, cleaning dishes, doing all this stuff. And at one point, I don’t know why or what on earth possessed me, but I grabbed the pepper and rubbed it in his face and said, "How do you like it?" And then he grabbed me, and all of a sudden, we’re fighting and struggling. So working with Brad, an actor who is open to being spontaneous and emotional and inventive and really listens to the other person, you can have moments like that. When someone comes in and they plan what they’re going to do, you don’t get those accidents. PS: What do you think the audience reaction will be like to this film? JC:You know, I think there probably will be a lot of mixed reaction, and I hope that it's going to create a lot of discussion, because a lot of my favorite films are the kind that I go, "Oh, I love that film," and someone else goes, "Really!?" I love those movies and I really hope that's the case. I feel like this film asks more questions than it answers. And a lot of us are used to being given answers and we just want to be entertained. This film really isn't that. It really isn't "I just want to turn off. I've had a hard day at work, I'm just going to go turn off and watch The Tree of Life." [Laughs.] It's not that. So I think you absolutely have to be in the mindset to be open and then to examine your life.
