TV Tonight: Rosie Live

Tonight on NBC, there's singing, there's dancing, there's . . . Rosie? Yup. Rosie O'Donnell's primetime variety show, Rosie Live, premieres tonight, and the one-hour special isn't just a little bit of pre-Thanksgiving entertainment. It's also a test to see how Rosie does in the ratings, with the possibility of NBC picking up six more episodes of the show for next year.

She's managed to get a ton of her friends to stop by, including Kathy Griffin, Rachael Ray, Liza Minnelli, and Alec Baldwin and Jane Krakowski - the two reasons I'm most likely to tune in. The show includes comedy sketches, song-and-dance numbers, and a monologue with Rosie sounding off on current events (here's betting Barbara Walters mutes her TV for that). There's also a "massive primetime giveaway" with "incredible prizes" for both Rosie's studio audience and us. And yes, it apparently really is live.

Last month, a lot of you had mixed feelings about whether this show would work. I did always have a soft spot for Rosie's talk show - which was actually a lot like a variety show, at times - so I'm at least a little curious to tune in. What about you? You can check out a couple of promos if you

Do You Think Rosie's Modern-Day Variety Show Could Work?

Guess who's making her way back to being a TV host: Rosie O'Donnell. On Nov. 26, the night before Thanksgiving, Rosie will host a variety show special on NBC, and it's possible this will lead to a variety series in 2009. Variety (ha) writes:

The hourlong event will include celebrity guests, musical acts, comedy skits, and a contest both for in-studio and at-home auds, the network said. "We want to show people that variety can be done in a new and inventive way for 2008," said Craig Plestis, NBC Entertainment’s exec VP for alternative programming, development and specials. "We hope to do it in ways you haven't seen before. It's going to be the YouTube of variety shows."

I'm not clear what that means, exactly, but regardless, I wonder if modern audiences will be interested in a good old-fashioned variety show. Would you tune in for this?

Nancy Sinatra's epic "Bang Bang," set the mood for Nicholas Kunz's Fall Nicholas K collection. Inspired by the Taos artists in the '20s and '30s, Kunz imagined a line bursting with Western influence - we loved all of the cool Stetson-inspired hats - and a dash of deco. Fringe was heavily prevalent, making its way onto geometric leather jackets, sheer crochet dresses, and for a vintage touch, metallic fringed flapper dresses. For eveningwear, Kunz showed off her signature draping technique on a variety of gorgeous sexy bias-cut dresses and fluid tops. The outerwear category also shined: parka jackets came complete with inner straps (so the coat can hang just off the shoulders), structured leather jackets highlighted by luxe fur collars, and the closing look featured an undeniably slick black asymmetric leather and canvas zippered coat. Andy Lewis Slacklines to Fame During Madonna's Halftime Show

During Madonna's Super Bowl halftime show, a performer jumping up and down on what appeared to be a tightrope had the crowd asking, "Who is that guy who looks like Will Ferrell, and what is he doing?" For anyone involved in rock climbing, you already know that it's athlete "Sketchy" Andy Lewis, the slackline king.

Besides being a lot of fun, slacklining is an incredible workout that challenges your core, agility, and balance. It may look similar to tightrope walking, but the differences are important. Unlike a tightrope, which uses a tautly-held rigid line, slacklining relies on the use of flat nylon webbing anchored with enough give to stretch and bounce. This give is what allowed Andy, who holds several world records in slacklining, to perform those acrobatic stunts during the halftime show. While it's grown into having a community all its own, modern-day slacklining is attributed to the Yosemite rock climbing community. In the '80s, rock climbers started killing time while camping by setting up slacklines using gear they already had - a tradition which still persists today. Some climbers even go slacklining thousands of feet up above the Yosemite valley floor. Slacklining has since evolved into a competitive sport and even bred offshoots like yoga slacklining.

The ladies met up for a European reunion while Reese was in the UK promoting This Means War. Gwyneth even made a quick jaunt to France, where she met up with friends and ate a few good meals.

Cameron and Gwyneth launched The Arts Club together back in October during one of Cameron's recent visits there. Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds continued their Safe House promotional tour yesterday with a stop by Spanish television's El Hormiguero. The guys are charming their way across Europe and are scheduled to blitz NYC next week with appearances on The Late Show and Live With Kelly. Their stop in the Big Apple might give Ryan a chance to catch up with girlfriend Blake Lively, who is back to work on the set of Gossip Girl. Things seems to be going well for the couple while Ryan and ex Scarlett Johansson listed their LA home for $3.65 million earlier this week. Ryan and Scarlett shared the Los Feliz ranch during their marriage, but both have since moved on to other properties. She's also been spotted holding hands with new boyfriend Nate Naylor on the East Coast.
