New Music Videos: Oasis and Kings of Leon

Interested in some moody, soul-searching tunes and visuals to match? Well, I have just the thing for you today by way of two moody, soul-searching bands.

First up, a new video from Kings of Leon for the song "Use Somebody" off the Kings' new album, Only By the Night. The video cuts from a close-up of lead singer Caleb Followill pouring his heart out to shots of the band playing for live audiences, practicing at rehearsal, hanging out shooting pool, and heating things up between Caleb (well, I think it's him) and one lucky ~~groupie~~ lady. I just saw this band live in San Francisco, and the performance of this song gave me chills in person. The video definitely does the tune justice.

The second video is from Oasis for their single "I'm Outta Time" off the band's Dig Out Your Soul, which is out now. I think I'll leave the description to the MySpace folks, because it's funny: "Liam on a surreal journey through a moon-lit English landscape. Subtly psychedelic!" The black-and-white visuals are pretty with or without the sound on, in my opinion.

At this weekend's party, surprise your friends with a playlist of everyone's favorite pop songs with an 8-bit twist. Every child of the '80s and '90s will appreciate synthesized sounds reminiscent of marathon Nintendo sessions.

Going through a moment of crisis transformed me, humbled me, and brought out what mattered most in my life. During my suspension from competing, I probably would have lost my spirit completely if I didn't have a loving group of family and friends there, supporting me through it all. Giving up my spot on the Olympic team was extremely traumatic. But more than anything, I needed to fix it and I knew I couldn't do it alone - though I wanted to. For the first time in my life, I was forced to let my guard down and let people help me.

My mom is a practicing, licensed psychotherapist, but I'm sure it wasn't easy for her to play the role of my mom and therapist. She was so good at talking me through emotions, calming me down, pumping me up, and helping me process my own thoughts. My sister, Amanda, who was a junior national team-level athlete in water polo, and stepdad, Bill, who's a lawyer, were amazingly understanding, too. Luckily, I had the perfect support group for an unlucky situation. I couldn't have survived the ordeal without them.

As supportive as my family was, it was my fiancé, Dominik, who encouraged me to seek help outside of my family. At one point, I was depressed, feeling really negative and taking it out on him. He sat me down and urged me to see somebody. Looking back, I realize I had put him in a really uncomfortable position. Every time he tried to cheer me up, I'd shoot him down. So it was a reality check and definitely the right thing to do. When I told my mom, she suggested I revisit my childhood family therapist - the one I used to see after my parents' divorce. I also sought the services of the US Olympic Committee's sports psychologists.

We've already seen pictures of Matt Bomer on Glee, but now we're getting a taste of what he sounds like when he shows off those pipes. In a performance from next week's episode, Bomer (as Blaine's brother, Cooper) sings a duet with his little bro to Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know." The song has become ubiquitous lately, but it still gave me goosebumps to hear the guys nail each note. Seems like there might be some brotherly tension here, no?

Glee-ful Highlights From Episode "Big Brother"

Glee is back after its break and the cliff-hanger of Quinn's accident, and we see what happens with her and whether Rachel and Finn went through with their wedding. We also get to meet Blaine's impossibly good-looking brother Cooper (guest star Matt Bomer), and though everyone else seems to be entranced with him, his visit makes Blaine confront their relationship issues.

We've been waiting a while for the show to come back, and aside from learning about Quinn's state, not much happens. It also kind of feels like an excuse to showcase Matt Bomer's singing and dancing abilities . . . which I actually have no problem with. Not only does he share Blaine's good looks, but apparently Cooper is also a big movie star who teaches the glee club a few things about acting. Working in corporate America, you're bound to encounter a difficult communication situation or two with your manager - from asking for vacation time during a busy month to letting him know that you're considering jumping ship. Whether you're an entry-level worker or in a more senior position, having to address these types of issues is an inescapable part of office life.

Here are five common scenarios with advice on how to approach them without burning any bridges.

You're Being Recruited by Another Department Head

The situation: You like your current job, but it would be remiss of you not to keep your eyes and ears open for new opportunities that allow you to grow and learn new skills. A manager in another department has taken note of your stellar performance and makes it clear that she'd be more than happy to have you on her team. However, your boss isn't in the loop, and you don't want to offend or anger him. A week goes by, and the pursuing supervisor steps up the pressure: "I'd hire you tomorrow. Shall we talk specifics?" You're interested in listening to what she has to say, but you don't want to burn any bridges. How do you proceed?

What you should do: First, let the manager who's courting you know that you're flattered she's taken note of your work. Next, if you're seriously considering making the move, be very clear in letting this person know that you have an obligation to your current boss. Ask her how she wants to proceed with bringing your manager into the loop. They are peers, and it would be much better for the person pursuing one of his top performers to initiate the conversation.

How to Travel Full-Time For $17,000 a Year (or Less!)

For the last five years, I've been traveling the world full-time, and for less money than I've ever spent (and I'd wager less money than most people would spend) to live in one place.

My worldly possessions fit into one bag (just larger than carry-on size) and a backpack containing my laptop and computer gear. This small entourage (weighing less than 45 pounds in total) comes with me as I wander around the world, sometimes quickly, but mostly slowly.

In 2011 alone, I traversed 13 countries and over 45,360 miles. Sounds pretty expensive, huh?

What if I told you it wasn't? What if I told you that both 2010 (a similarly busy year of travel) and 2011 cost me just over $17,000 (including some major non-travel-related purchases)? Would you believe me?

How to Keep Your Travel Costs Low

Of course, I could travel for way more than $17,000 a year. The sky is the limit for what you can spend on the road, from food and accommodation to flights, destinations, and tours. I could also travel for less than this, if I made different spending choices.
