Tyra Banks is heading to the Upper East Side, booking a guest-starring gig on the fourth episode of the season. And the fierce America's Next Top Model hostess isn't playing herself: She'll play an actress who co-stars in a movie alongside Hilary Duff's NYU student/movie star and will appear in the fourth episode of the season.

Though Tyra's on TV on a daily basis, it's been a long time since she had a straight-up acting gig. The most recent was on American Dreams back in 2004, though she also has credentials from Felicity, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and - of course - Coyote Ugly. So I'm wondering: Do you think Tyra should be taking acting gigs? Or are the hosting and producing roles more up her alley?

I really like the CoverGirl commercial episode of America's Next Top Model because models walking, reading, and talking all at the same time is so much fun to watch. I can't imagine reading lines from a teleprompter and not tripping over myself or making a weird face, so I'm always impressed with the ladies who do really well in this part of the competition. So who's a natural for commercials and who should stick to still photos? Let's discuss below!

I was really looking forward to this week's America's Next Top Model episode after Celia's outburst last week at judges' panel. And while a little bit of yelling and drama broke out at the house in the beginning, things got pretty snoozy after that. What is with this cycle? Do you guys think it's one of the most boring to date?

Finally, drama is a-brewing in the America's Next Top Model house! Honestly, I'm really missing Sheena right about now, because this cycle's contestants are so. freaking. boring.

But something a little crazy went down at elimination last night that will definitely stir things up, so there's hope. Other than that, it's same old, same old: Benny Ninja, posing tutorial, etc. You know the drill.

This week's episode of America's Next Top Model is all about walkin' under the tutelage of Ms. J. The ladies hit the runway and once again proved to America that walking in a straight line is no laughing matter. There were also some antics at the house, namely a game of truth or dare, but I couldn't help feeling like this group of girls is a little boring.

Maybe it's just because Sandra was on really good behavior. Regardless, I kind of loathe episodes like this one where the producers pick a girl who is full of self-doubt and makes us listen to her whining all night (Tahlia!).

Hooray for the makeover episode on this week's America's Next Top Model! Per usual, some girls came out of the salon looking much better, some cried about losing all their hair, and some didn't realize their makeover had backfired and looked fugly until Tyra told them so to their face at judges' panel. Also, I learned a new modeling term: "tension." It can make or break a photo, apparently.

America's Next Top Model Quiz: "What Happens in Vegas" and "Fun and Games"

Welcome to Cycle 12, America's Next Top Model fans and/or addicts. Can you believe it? Twelve cycles! Tyra and her band of fashion crazies have been at this for so long, they've got it down to an entertaining science, and this week's two-hour premiere delivered everything we've come to expect from this show.

For example, Tyra's amazing knack for delivering insults as compliments was on full display when she said one girl's face looks like it's been through a wind tunnel - but in a good way. I was also glad she took a stand against certain crimes of fashion at panel, telling one girl to rip that stupid hippie horizontal headband off her forehead. Hooray! I'm not a big fan of that trend.

ANTM Fierce Guide to Life: Genius or Dumb?

Oh wow. The folks behind America's Next Top Model have a book on the way, and it's claiming to be "A Fierce Guide to Life." Come April, we'll be able to turn to this tome for actual, earnest advice on topics that apparently include:

Applying makeup
"Runway etiquette"
How to wear a crop top from Hot Topic
How to keep hydrated (I wonder if it involves water? We'll have to wait and see!)
Understanding that "beauty starts on the inside"

I'm assuming there's also a chapter on smiling with your eyes, but that's unconfirmed.

Now, I do love me some ANTM but . . . I don't know what to do with this book. I don't think it's ironic or silly enough to put on my coffee table, and I also honestly can't imagine anyone taking these tips seriously. Now, if Tyra Banks, queen of my heart (OK, not really), had written it, or even the Jays, maybe we'd have a different situation - but it's actually by the author who brought us Kung Fu Panda: The Secret of the Scroll. So, as it stands, it seems just like a lame attempt to make some money.

What do you guys think? Dumb idea? Or genius? Could you see this on, say, the Urban Outfitters book table? Who's going to buy this, besides friends and relatives of people who are trying out for ANTM? And shouldn't it at least be called a guide to the fierce life? I don't care how fierce the guide is if the life I get from it isn't fierce, you know?

Meet the Models of ANTM Cycle 12

Reality Roundup: Game Show in My Head, True Beauty, 13

American Idol's still the biggest thing on TV, but it's not the only reality show hitting the airwaves in January. Lots of new reality shows are starting up next month, and here, I've got previews for three of the biggies.

Ashton Kutcher is behind two of these shows, ABC's True Beauty and CBS's Game Show in my Head. For True Beauty, which premieres Jan. 5, Kutcher has teamed up with Tyra Banks for a show that's attempting to find the person out of 10 gorgeous contestants (models, pageant queens, and the like) who's the most beautiful both inside and out. The twist: The contestants don't know the "inner beauty" part of the game, which will be judged from secret footage by Vanessa Minnillo, Cheryl Tiegs, and Nole Marin. That show premieres Jan. 5.

Game Show is more classic Kutcher in the Punk'd/Wedding Crashers style: Contestants are sent out into the world wearing an earpiece and told to perform ridiculous actions (wear only underwear and get people to give you their clothes; act like you're a hospital patient who just escaped) for the chance to win cash. Its first two episodes air Jan. 2.

And then there's 13: Fear is Real, a horror movie-style reality show from director Sam Raimi. The 13 contestants will be shipped off to a spooky forest where they'll be pitted against each other in challenges straight from horror movies; the weakest links will "die" until only one person remains (I have to assume no actual death is involved). Its visual style is vaguely Blair Witch Project, and I'm amused by the fact that the winner gets $66,666. That one premieres Jan. 7.
