Long before he was doing his own stunts in the Mission: Impossible movies, Tom Cruise was a fresh-faced young actor with a talent for wooing the ladies. Case in point: his iconic turn as Maverick in Top Gun, where he and Goose (Anthony Edwards) belt out "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" to get some attention from the girl he's been eying. Whether or not you've seen this movie, chances are you're familiar with the scene, so why not watch it again?

Buzz In: What's Your Favorite Movie Sing-along Scene?

Sigh. Movie sing-alongs. They are so good. When Top Gun was first out, if I wasn't head-over-heels for Tom Cruise already, his belting out of "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" to Kelly McGillis would have sealed the deal.

And come on, who didn't want to run down to their local dive bar, take some shots and belt "Sweet Caroline" after that fantastic scene in Beautiful Girls? Also, I will never tire of the part in My Best Friend's Wedding when that gorgeous man, Rubert Everett, kicks off an all-restaurant sing-along to "Say A Little Prayer for You."

For me, sing-alongs can take a good scene and make it the best scene. They tap into that basic human desire to break into spontaneous song and dance when the mood strikes. OK, maybe that's just my basic desire.

What's Buzzworthy: Action Movies

As I mentioned last week when I challenged you to Buzzworthy your favorite action movies, summertime feels like the best season to grab the popcorn, find some air-conditioning and get swept away by the blockbustery goodness of a high-octane flick. I can't wait to update my Netflix queue, since I forgot all about some of these oldies but greats.

The Rock
One of my personal favorites, Linda McP has this to say about her pick: "Sean Connery, Nicholas Cage, and Ed Harris are perfectly cast in this film about domestic terrorism (all of San Francisco is held hostage by a deranged war hero played by Harris). Parts of the film are unrealistic, for sure, but the interplay between and among the characters makes this film a worthwhile pick. Connery just gets better as he ages!"

Kill Bill, Volume I
Another favorite of mine, this was chosen by tdamji who writes, "It's great to see a woman in a starring role in an action movie. There don't seem to be very many like that. Lucy Liu is great in this, as is Uma Thurman."

The Seven Samurai
I should really check out this classic action movie from 1954, which was suggested by Fab_Kitty. Samurai movies often make fantastic action films with quality plots and characterization, what with all that courage and honor. Fab_Kitty says, "Akira Kurosawa's masterpiece Seven Samurai has enough training and fighting to satisfy action film enthusiasts. It's also a film with lovely cinematography, a thoughtful pace, and a moving narrative."

Armed with some thin manila rope, a glue gun, and a Bran table lamp base ($20), I set out to create a nautical-inspired lamp with a modern twist.

As part of our Styled by You $500 Giveaway with Ikea, Angela and I have been rethinking and restyling some IKEA products, thinking beyond the flatpack. Today, I'm sharing my first project, which was made from the SKURAR Hanging Planter. ($5).

I love this product's design and lacy detailing and have long admired the easy switcheroo that turns this planter into a hanging lamp. At least, it seemed easy when I read about it. But would this project prove to be harder than it looked?

The girls are back in the Big Apple following a recent visit to Louisiana, where Tom Cruise is shooting his latest project, Oblivion. Few details about his futuristic drama have been released, but another high-profile project starring Tom is getting lots of press. Recent reports suggest Tom is close to signing up for a Top Gun sequel, though no word on when and where production would begin. Tom's 2012 calendar is already packed with projects, and he'll likely have to hit the road prior to June's Rock of Ages and the holiday release of One Shot.
