First Look: Alvin and the Chipmunks

When I first learned they'd be making a live-action and CG movie of Alvin and the Chipmunks, I cringed. I guess I don't agree with remaking a classic favorite simply because we now have the technology to make the chipmunks look more lifelike. But alas, Hollywood doesn't listen to me nearly as often as I'd like, so here we are with the first trailer for Alvin and the Chipmunks.

I'm a little comforted by the fact that it's directed by Tim Hill who co-wrote the SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, which I'm not above admitting I saw in theaters and loved. And to some extent I think the beginning sequence of the trailer is cute with the screaming crowds and the voiceover saying that they caused a media sensation years ago and now they're back. But then they get into actually showing the chipmunks and their David (Jason Lee). I found it painful to watch, and even more painful to live with that song in my head for the rest of the day. Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood Join Nicole and Keith For the ACM Awards

The annual Academy of Country Music Awards went down in Las Vegas last night with Blake Shelton serving as host. Lovely ladies like Nicole Kidman, Carrie Underwood, LeAnn Rimes, and Taylor Swift posed on the ACM Awards red carpet and then headed inside so the statues could be distributed to winners. It was an unconventional show - a couple even got married at one point in a ceremony officiated by Martina McBride! The Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth was also called in to host the ACM Fan Jam. Big honors went to record of the year and female vocalist of the year winner Miranda Lambert, and her husband Blake got the corresponding male honor. Taylor Swift was crowned entertainer of the year in a hotly contested category. Blake even poked a little fun at Taylor's well-used surprised face when handing over the statue. The fun went down in front of a star-studded crowd that included Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, and even Ashton Kutcher.

Reese Joins Country's Biggest Stars and Taylor Makes History at CMA Awards in Nashville

Reese Witherspoon was pretty in pink as she stepped on stage to present at last night's CMA Awards in Nashville. The movie star was in the company of country music's biggest names, which of course include Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood. For the red carpet Taylor Swift wore a strapless J. Mendel, Carrie Underwood was in Reem Acra, and Ginnifer Goodwin was in Prabal Gurung. Taylor performed her new love song "Ours" during the show, and she also took home the biggest honor of the evening, Entertainer of the Year. Taylor also won that award in 2009, making her the second woman to earn it twice. Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley played cohosts for the third year in a row and once again showed off their funny chemistry on stage.

Reese wasn't the only Oscar-winning actress in the house, since Nicole Kidman was there on the arm of her husband Keith Urban. Faith Hill hit the red carpet in a stunning white Chado Ralph Rucci gown with Tim McGraw by her side. Announcing the 2012 Golden Globe Nominations!

Well, folks, we're finally getting into the heavy hitters of award season, as the 2012 Golden Globe nominees were announced this morning. As expected, award season darlings The Artist and The Descendants led the way with five nods apiece, but there are plenty of surprises here, too. George Clooney is going to have a big night, as his The Ides of March scored four nods, including one for him as a director. Ryan Gosling managed to score two nods for acting, for Crazy, Stupid, Love as well as Ides.

In the TV categories, new shows ruled as nods for New Girl, Game of Thrones, Boss, Episodes, Enlightened, and Homeland made the list - and that's not all. Zooey Deschanel scored a best actress nod, as did Mireille Enos for her work on The Killing and Laura Dern for Enlightened.
