'80s and '90s Superhero Remix

The news of Captain Planet getting a modern silver screen revamp had us reminiscing about our favorite '80s and '90s superheroes. The jury's still out whether a remix of these characters is even necessary, but join us on the crime-fighting trip down memory lane of superheroes you have yet to receive a 21st century movie makeover. We'd prefer if these shows stayed untouched by the Hollywood machine and were rather brought back for our enjoyment via a streaming media service. Who are your favorite animated superheroes of yore?

Buzz In: What Cartoons Would You Like to See Rebooted?

You probably don't need me to tell you that reboots are the new black these days - sometimes it feels like Hollywood has completely given up on new ideas. Bringing back a beloved work of entertainment isn't always a bad thing though: take, for example, today's news that the '80s cartoon Thundercats is coming back with a makeover from the Cartoon Network.

I was a huge fan of Lion-O and the gang back when I was barely out of diapers, and I'm excited to see what kind of new adventures (and much better animation) the Cartoon Network can come up with. The more I think about it, the more I realize how many cartoons I wouldn't mind seeing reimagined, especially since today's younger generation was never really exposed to the greats like Doug, Ducktales, and The Snorks. I could also totally get into new episodes of Alvin and the Chipmunks, since the big-screen versions didn't do justice to the original. What about you - what cartoons would you like to see rebooted?

"ThunderCats": Another '80s Cartoon to Become a Movie

Here's the latest in the string of news involving a popular 1980s cartoon being made into a full-length feature film: "ThunderCats" will make it to the big screen as a CGI-animated movie. Variety has details:

Property revolves around a group of humanoid cats (with feline names like Lion-O, Tygra, Panthro and Cheetara) who must flee their planet of Thundera after it's destroyed. Once crash-landing on another planet, Third Earth, they must thwart Mumm-Ra, an evil sorcerer, bent on killing them off.

[Paul] Sopocy has written the script as an origin story expanding on the major heroes and villains from the animated series, with the plot focusing on Lion-O coming of age as the leader of the Thundercats.

Okay, so first there was Transformers. Then news of a G.I. Joe movie, followed by the announcement of a He-Man film. And now "ThunderCats." Don't get me wrong - I loved "ThunderCats" as a kid. But I've said it before and I'll say it again: Where are "Jem and the Holograms"?! Boys weren't the only kids around in the 1980s. If we're going to bring the ThunderCats (which has its own website, crazily enough) to movie theaters, it's positively scandalous to ignore Jem. At the very least give us a little She-Ra (beyond just a bit part in the He-Man movie)!

What do you guys think? Should we fill Hollywood with peanuts until we get a Jem movie?
