All hail the King of Pop: posthumous Michael Jackson documentary This Is It landed at the top of the box office this weekend, raking in $21.3 million in its first weekend in theaters.
Last week's number one, Paranormal Activity, bowed to the king and fell to number two with $16.5 million. In third place was the Gerard Butler thriller Law Abiding Citizen with a haul of $7.3 million, while Couples Retreat and Saw VI came in at fourth and fifth with respective gains of $6 million and $5.5 million.

Making a tribute film after the death of an icon is a difficult undertaking — how do you do justice to his or her life without making it feel overblown? But the new Michael Jackson documentary, This Is It manages to strike that balance. The anticipation for its limited release has been building for more than a month now when early ticket purchases broke sales records, and most of you said you wanted to see the film as well.

This Is It, aka the Michael Jackson movie, doesn't open in theaters until Oct. 28, but the late music icon's loyal fans are already securing their seats. The film is breaking records for advance ticket sales, with hundreds of shows selling out in North America and all over the world since Sunday.

Last night's VMAs were a tribute to Michael Jackson as much as they were a celebration of the winners. The show kicked off with an amazing dance medley, including a special performance by Janet Jackson. Later on in the night we got our first taste of Michael Jackson: This is It, the movie that pulls together all of the unseen footage of the iconic pop star as he prepared for a tour that never came.
