You're Fired! 20 Signs That a Pink Slip Is Coming

If something feels off at the office, you may want to brace yourself for the worst. Wise Bread shares signs to look for when a pink slip is coming.

There are two types of employees. One has a good idea of what they do, who they are, and what position they play in the company. They are savvy. They know the score. They are under no delusions, and will no doubt leave for another job long before they are ever considered as cannon-fodder.

And then there's the other kind. The guy who could get Gandhi to hate him. The woman who spends most of her day chatting on the phone to friends or doing online shopping. Or the nice chap in sales who is completely oblivious that the recent merger means his job is now obsolete. They all have Ostrich Syndrome. They couldn't see a pink slip coming if it was 8ft tall and glowing in the dark, screaming "you're fired!"

You want to avoid being in that second category at all costs. So I've compiled a handy list. If you can answer yes to THREE or more of these questions, you may want to think about sprucing up your résumé and dry-cleaning your best interview attire.

1. Are you no longer in the loop about, well, anything?

This is a huge telltale sign. Suddenly you're finding out about company news from the cleaning lady or the new girl in accounting. If you were formally in the know about all things business related, but now suffer from "the company's doing what??!" disease, the writing is probably on the wall.

2. Did you recently screw up big-time?

We're not talking a minor faux pas here. Did you lose money on an account that was previously bulletproof? Oh dear. Were you caught having sex on the boss's desk with the boss's spouse? That's probably not a career-enhancing move. Unless you're a real dope, you know if you have screwed up. And if you know, HR knows. It may not be the final nail in your coffin, but it's a nail in the coffin nonetheless.

3. Are people avoiding you at all costs?

Eye contact is difficult to make with someone if you know his or her head's on the chopping block. Small talk is just as tough. It's best just to avoid that person altogether. So if people are no longer doing that fun "stop 'n' chat" in the hall, or the coffee room empties when you arrive, then guess what . . . you may be a marked man or woman.

These noshing habits could be the reason your scale is stalled

We do it in the car, on the train, in front of the TV, on the phone, and even in bed. For too many of us, snacking has become so automatic that our brains barely register the hand-to-mouth motion. And it's not as if we're all reaching for diet-friendly apples: A 2010 study from the University of North Carolina found that most of us eat nearly 600 calories a day-roughly a third of our food-in snacks rather than meals.

"The business plan of the modern food company has been to put their foods on every street corner, making it socially acceptable to eat 24-7," says David Kessler, MD, former commissioner of the FDA and the author of The End of Overeating (Rodale, 2009).

The result has been a nutritional disaster. In their natural state, whole foods may be high in fat or sugar, but they're rarely high in both. Today we have man-made snack foods with a tantalizing combination of fat and sugar rolled into one. "Foods have become so 'hyperpalatable' that they're now capable of hijacking our brains the same way that nicotine and alcohol do," says Ashley Gearhardt, the lead author of a Yale University study on food addiction.

Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield met up inside last night's American Museum of Natural History gala in NYC. She posed for pictures solo on the red carpet in an orange gown and Tabitha Simmons heels while her Amazing Spider-Man costar and beau decided to go straight inside the event. They partied alongside a long list of Big Apple-based funny people, including SNL's Seth Meyers, Jason Sudeikis, Bill Hader, and Kristen Wiig. Emma has gotten familiar with the show's cast this week, since she's hosting tomorrow's episode! Tina Fey left baby Penelope at home for an adults-only evening out at the annual bash with her husband, Jeff Richmond, while Jimmy Fallon made the rounds with wife, Nancy Juvonen.

Emma was solo out on the town Monday for the Glamour Women of the Year Awards, which came just days after her big 24th birthday. Emma and Andrew have gone to great lengths to keep their relationship under wraps over the past few months. They're rarely photographed together, but have been seen on a few cute date nights and wearing coordinating Teen Wolf Halloween costumes in recent weeks.

4 Things to Know About Rep. Weiner's Wiener Problem

When a picture of a man's crotch in gray underwear showed up in NY Representative Anthony Weiner's Twitter feed this weekend directed to a Seattle college student, it seemed like the perfect prank. His name is Weiner after all, and what congressman in his right mind would tweet a picture like that. Weiner claimed he was #hacked. But yesterday things got a little more interesting. He went on MSNBC and said that while he did not tweet the photo, he couldn't say with certitude that it was not a picture of him. Wait, what?! As the plot thickens, here are four things to know.

Following yesterday's admission that it's possible the photo is him, Weiner went on CNN today and said: "I don't know what photographs are out there in the world of me."
Weiner can't really recognize his underwear. When Wolf Blitzer pointed out that he might be able to tell if it was his underwear, for example, Weiner said "it certainly doesn't look familiar."
Whether or not he's ever taken a photo of his bulge, there could be merit to his claim he was hacked, since it's apparently easy to do. Plus, some right-wing bloggers known for past hoaxes jumped on the story right away.
Before he married a top aide to Hillary Clinton, Huma Abedin, a couple of years ago, he was one of Washington DC's most eligible bachelors. As a single man he was connected to various women, including a New Yorker writer, a reporter, and a television personality/cybermodel. So you never know who might have a picture of him in his undies.

Abduction Trailer: Taylor Lautner, Teen Action Hero?

Taylor Lautner may be best known as Twilight's resident wolf boy, but he's stepping into the spotlight as a leading man in Abduction. Lautner plays Nathan, a high schooler who feels "different" despite his heartthrobby looks (which are only enhanced by his motorbike and sunglasses), position on the wrestling team, and typical weekends spent drinking with his peers. After receiving a tip-off from a friend (Lily Collins), Nathan recognizes himself on a missing persons website and realizes that his whole life has been a lie. What starts out as a teen movie quickly turns into an high-speed chase, packed with explosions, make-out sessions, and martial arts prowess from Lautner.

The film seems to be going for a Disturbia-esque vibe, as Nathan's struggles to solve a mystery as the people he loves are under attack. Lautner may be game to do his own stunts, but I still might need some convincing on his acting skills for the emotional scenes. Still, it's pretty slick for a high school movie. True Blood Bites: "Burning Down the House"

This week's episode of True Blood isn't the most epic of the season, but it sets up (and wraps up) a few final story lines as we head into the home stretch. The war between the vampires and witches is intensifying now that King Bill is no longer interested in keeping the peace, and a significant character passes away after a tumultuous season.

Most of all though, Eric has a major breakthrough that I welcomed with open arms. Let's break down all the major happenings from the episode when you

Best case of seeing the light: Eric finally gets his memory back, thanks to some fierce fairy power. When Martonia sics Eric and the rest of her vampire "slaves" on Bill, Sookie intercedes to save the king, using her power against Eric. Eric's old memories instantly start flooding back to him, but he's retained a little of that sweet side, too. The only problem is that he's none too pleased to hear that Sookie loves both him and Bill. Maybe Sook should try explaining her three-way fantasy to Sheriff Northman? Seriously, though, we're running out of time in this season, and she's going to have to make a decision, so who are you rooting for?
Most dramatic death scene: Well folks, Tommy's finally moved on to that big shifter paradise in the sky. Alcide tries to rush him to safety after sustaining significant injuries courtesy of Marcus, but Tommy insists that it's his time to go and asks to be taken "home" to Merlotte's. There, he and Sam finally make amends before Tommy passes on. It only lasts a minute, but man does that scene seem to go on forever. Sam resolves to avenge his brother's death by taking down Marcus, but Marcus is too busy trying to make wolf pups with Debbie Pelt (ew). Tommy has cheated death more than a few times before, but will you miss him now that he's finally gone?
Least compelling change of heart: I was definitely surprised to see that Marnie is actually the one pushing Antonia along in their little war on vampires, but both women bug me equally, so I can't say it's a game changer. The biggest shock is seeing how scared and guilty Antonia is when she separates from Marnie's body, but I'm just hoping the vampires can make both of these ladies disappear for good. And soon.
Most effective intervention: Terry finally catches on to his cousin's addiction to V and takes him to their old fort in the woods to sort Andy out. Andy tries to explain that he needs his "medicine," but Terry challenges him to a shooting contest to prove that Andy's drugs don't make him the stronger man. What ensues is a tête-à-tête in which both Andy and Terry air their grievances with each other from their entire lives. As it turns out, both men have been envious of one another, and the fight eventually becomes a breakthrough and brings them closer together. I've never been that into this storyline, but it's nice to see how far Terry's come, since the first season when he was battling post-traumatic stress disorder.
Most explosive plan: Bill wants to burn down the Moon Goddess Emporium at any cost, including killing Tara and the rest of the people who are trapped inside. Though Sookie pleads with him to think of Tara, Bill can only think about his fellow vampires. He rounds up Pam, Jessica, and Eric, and the foursome get decked out in black suits and approach the Emporium in a final scene that's so cheesy you can't help but love it.
Best B-team: Sookie decides to try to get to Tara before the vampires can, enlisting help from Jason, Lafayette, and Jesus. Jesus offers to approach Martonia by using his connection with Marnie as bait, but he's brutally rebuffed by a force field that Martonia has put into place to protect the Moon Goddess Emporium. Jesus uses his inner voodoo to transform his face into what looks like a horrible mask (remember Lafayette's vision from last season?) and gets through. Though he speaks with Marnie and learns that she's the one pulling all the strings, before he can make any more progress, Martonia finds his posse and zaps Lafayette and Sookie into oblivion, leaving only Jason behind.

Ryan Reynolds Does Late Night With Jimmy Fallon and Talks About His "Lorno" Scene

Ryan Reynolds reminded us why he's the Sexiest Man Alive arriving at NYC's Late Night With Jimmy Fallon studios last night looking hot as ever in a well-tailored suit. Ryan's in the Big Apple promoting The Change-Up prior to today's release of the film - a familiar formula and raunchy potty humor are just some of the faults Buzz discovered in their review of The Change-Up. Ryan's costar Jason Bateman stopped by earlier in the week to chat with Jimmy and re-create a memorable scene from his Teen Wolf Too days. Ryan stuck with recounting stories from his days as a child actor in Canada, though he did share a more recent story about the day he decided to bring his mom to The Change-Up set, which coincidentally happened to be the only day they were shooting his "lorno," aka light porn, scene.

The Breaking Dawn Cast Talks Wedding, the Birth Scene and Shows Off Some Sexy Footage at Comic-Con!

Twilight's principal cast of Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner hit Comic-Con to talk part one of Breaking Dawn. Along with director Bill Condon, they addressed the film's most anticipated scenes, like Edward and Bella's wedding and their ensuing honeymoon, as well as the infamous vampire-human baby birthing scene.

In addition, we got to see a couple of scenes in the movie that are not in the book. One showed Jacob talking to Carlisle and Esme about protecting Bella, and then having a confrontation with his own wolf pack, who see him as a traitor for helping the Cullens. The other scene we were shown got a ton of catcalls from the audience because it was a clip from Edward and Bella's honeymoon. In the sexy scene, Bella preps for a big milestone (brushing her teeth, shaving her legs . . .) and then meets her new husband on the beach in the moonlight - wearing nothing but a towel. The cast had lots of juicy tidbits to share about the film, and I've shared highlights from the panel below.

Kristen talked about what it was like to shoot the wedding scene, which she said she'd been "ramping up to shoot for four years" because she regarded it as the "most important part of the whole thing." She said it was "so beautiful" when she got on set and saw everyone in the pews, and was as nervous and terrified as she expected herself to be. However, she got into "wedding mode" when she put the dress on - but was locked away in a room to protect the dress and images of her in it, which required her to be under "Secret-Service-style crazy security."
On shooting the honeymoon in Brazil, Robert said the climate was amazing and beautiful on the first day, and then it started raining and turned into "hurricane storms." He said crappy weather made it feel like they were "having a honeymoon in England, playing board games, instead of making love on the beach."
Taylor said Jacob starts out as the same character we've always known at the beginning of Breaking Dawn Part 1, "then he gets his heart crushed." He said Jacob "becomes a totally different person, who is forced to mature and become his own man." Taylor said Jacob's journey was exciting to him and that he can't wait for the audience to see it too.

So, about that birth scene. Rob said it was his favorite scene to shoot because Edward is so different than he usually is, describing him as "very frail and human" in the scene. He's "so aware of his own helplessness" and is desperate to help Bella. For her part, Kristen described the scene as "so cool" because it's not your typical birthing scene (the understatement of the year). "We go hardcore," she declared, mentioning the detail that Bella is choking on blood at one point, because she'd been drinking it.
Taylor couldn't say enough good things about the birthing scene and emphasized that all the credit goes to director Condon. The end product, he said, is "stunning" and "phenomenal."
Other tidbits about the final parts the cast revealed? Kristen mentioned that the vampire contacts "suck SO bad, because you can't see anyone," and Taylor talked about getting punched by Robert when Jacob imprints on his daughter.
Other cast members like Ashley Greene, Nikki Reed, Elizabeth Reaser, and Julia Jones joined the rest of the cast on stage for a few questions, and everyone talked about how much they'll miss hanging out together. Jones joked that you have to make a commitment to seeing each other, which includes "being in LA."
