Finally: The State Is Coming to DVD July 14!

Many folks know Thomas Lennon, Keri Kenney, and Robert Ben Garant as members of the bumbling police force on Reno! 911, and Ken Marino as any number of characters on TV (Professor Wilder on Dawson's Creek, Vinnie Van Lowe on Veronica Mars, currently Shep on In the Motherhood and a sweet, gay demon on Reaper). David Wain is now known largely as writer and director of movies like Wet Hot American Summer, The Ten, and Role Models, while actor Michael Ian Black starred as Phil Stubbs on Ed, among many other stints on various TV shows and movies.

But to me, all of these people will forever and always remind me of The State, the MTV sketch show they created and starred in for a precious few seasons. Though the series has been off the air since 1995, DVDs of the cult hit still weren't available to its enthusiastic fans - until now! The complete series will be on DVD as of July 14.

Finally, I can retire the VHS tapes on which I recorded the show (yup, I kept them and watched them regularly) and proudly replace them with a shiny new set of DVDs. Also, whole new generations can be introduced to the fun and weirdness that is Doug, Louie, Barry, and Levon, not to mention sketches like "Monkey Torture," "Porcupine Racetrack," and "Tenement."

Barry and Levon Whisper Sweet Nothings to Their Pudding

The State was a brilliant but short-lived sketch comedy show on MTV that left us with many wonderful legacies, including that of Levon and Barry (Sagittarius). These misguided casanovas dressed in head-to-toe velour and had a soft spot for pudding. What do Barry and Levon do with $240 dollars worth of pudding? Just cook . . . and chill.

Movie Preview: The Ten

News about The Ten first caught my eye when it screened at Sundance back in January. After that I kind of forgot about it... until yesterday when the full trailer hit the web - and the trailer is awesome.

The broad cast seriously runs the gamut, from comedic people I'm a little in love with (Paul Rudd, Rob Corddry, Ken Marino and other members of "The State") to mainstream actors (Adam Brody, Jessica Alba, Winona Ryder). The result is bizarre, but also looks like it could be really funny. Opening August 3, The Ten tells ten stories, each with the theme of one of the Ten Commandments.

Movie Preview: Diggers

We all know about my deep affection for Paul Rudd, "The State," and most things "Six Feet Under"-related. So I am loving the trailer for Diggers, a drama that a) focuses on a character played by Paul Rudd, b) was produced by David Wain and written by Ken Marino, both from "The State," and c) stars "Six Feet Under"'s sassy redhead Lauren Ambrose. Count me in!

The film is only out in limited release this Friday before moving into DVD release the following Tuesday, May 1. IMDB calls it a "coming-of-age story about four working-class friends growing up in Long Island, New York, as clam diggers. Their fathers were clam diggers as well as their grandfathers before them." Boating Safety: Things to Know Before You Go Afloat

It seems like boating season unofficially begins on Memorial Day weekend with everyone headed to their lake houses, weekend river residences, or the beach. In different parts of the nation, boating accidents, injuries, and unfortunately fatalities are on the rise. Now that I've captured your attention, let's review a few tips on boating safety.

Boater's fatigue is real, and it can wear you down. The US Coast Guard warns people about this condition, created by the combination of wind, noise, heat, and vibration of the boat. All these elements can mentally and physically fatigue boaters and subsequently impair their judgment.
Personal flotation devices, otherwise known as life jackets, are vitally important for everyone on board the boat, be it a canoe or a speed boat. Some states even require children under a certain age to wear life jackets, so if the little ones complain about wearing the big orange life vest, tell them it's the law.
Boating and alcohol don't mix. Alcohol impairs your judgment, balance, and coordination, affects your swimming and diving skills, and reduces your body's ability to stay warm. Coupled with boater's fatigue, folks on a boat will feel the effects of alcohol faster than they would on land. Plus, driving a boat while intoxicated is illegal.
The wind can keep you cool and make you forget you're in the sun, but don't forget to reapply sunscreen every two hours and always after swimming. Lube up even if it's overcast since UV rays can still damage your skin through clouds.
Watch the weather to keep an eye on local weather conditions, and be prepared for electrical storms. Water conducts electricity, so you don't want to find yourself on the open water during a lightning storm.

Kristen Stewart slipped out of her Reem Acra gown and into a Dolce & Gabbana t-shirt and sexy black shorts for Robert Pattinson's Cosmopolis Cannes Fim Festival afterparty. Earlier in the evening, Rob hit the red carpet solo at the film's formal premiere while Kristen stuck close to his best friend, and her On The Road costar, Tom Sturridge. The trip to France came right in the middle of Kristen's international Snow White and the Huntsman press tour. The film opens in theaters June 1 and Kristen's headed back to the States next week for a few more promotional stops. As for Rob, he's in the running for two of the hottest roles in Hollywood. New reports say Rob's considering the part of Finnick Odair in Catching Fire, the follow up to The Hunger Games, and he's among the sexy guys competing to play Christian in Fifty Shades of Grey.
