The Results Are In: Recast The Nanny

Every other Wednesday on BuzzSugar, I post a Recast challenge, where I ask you to choose new actors for a classic TV show or movie. The reader who submits the best cast wins a BuzzSugar t-shirt!

There were plenty of great suggestions for this first recast challenge of 2008! I especially loved the ideas for new actresses to play Fran Fine. My favorites include ChrissyBaby's idea of Ana Ortiz, and kersalli's suggestion of Sandra Bullock.

I also enjoyed the suggestions for the part of Niles, from foudini's idea of Steve Carell, to Hugh Laurie, as WhiplashGirlchild and supertramp suggested.

Recast The Nanny and Win a Prize!

Every other Wednesday on BuzzSugar, I post a Recast challenge, where I ask you to choose new actors for a classic TV show or movie. The reader who submits the best cast wins a BuzzSugar t-shirt!

As the show's official website points out, The Nanny was a matter of "blue collar meets blue blood," with the Queens-bred Franny Fine (Fran Drescher) bringing some of her straightforward, nasally attitude to one lucky Upper East Side family. One might say it's like Gossip Girl meets Ugly Betty - but with Fran Drescher.

If you could recast this '90s sitcom, who could you put in Franny Fine's role? Then there's the wealthy family she joins up with: Maxwell Sheffield and his three kids, Maggie, Brighton, and Grace. Niles the butler played a big enough role to include, as did Maxwell's business partner, C.C. Babcock.

Mommy Dearest: My Nanny's Breath Stinks!

Mommy Dearest -

We love our nanny - she takes amazing care of my son every day. But all of a sudden, her breath is so bad, that I honestly can't be around her and I actually think it's really gross that my son is around it all day. How do I address this with her?

Any money she makes, she sends to her kids back home, so I doubt that she wants to pay for a dentist, but it's so gross that I am at the point where I have to position myself away from her and I feel really badly for my son.

If I make her a dentist appointment, then do I need to pay for it?

Mommy Dearest –

I'm a SAHM, but plenty of my daughter's friends' have two working parents, which means that they are cared for by nannies and babysitters. Now that my daughter is in preschool, she is asking to play with specific friends, rather than the ones I set her up with, and that often means that it is the nanny and me hanging out while the girls play. While the nannies are certainly nice enough, I find us both to be uncomfortable with the situation. Should I just not schedule play dates with these kids, or is there another solution you might suggest to avoid the awkwardness of the situation.

Do You Allow Your Kids to Play at Unknown Homes?

As a working mom, I rely heavily on my children's nanny to arrange playdates with my lil ones' friends in and around the neighborhood. I frequently return home at the end of the day only to learn that my kids (and nanny) spent the afternoon at a classmate's home or that we hosted a slew of tots for an after school play session.

Sometimes, when I receive the daily report, my son informs me that they played at the home of a child I don't know. In most cases, the caretakers know each other from home, the playground, or mutual friends, and make the arrangements to introduce the kids. Having worked for us for almost five years, I trust my nanny's judgment and know she wouldn't take my kids to an unsafe environment, but it is a bit odd to know that my kids are visiting a place I've never been.

When I mentioned the unusual situation to a fellow working mom, she told me that she never allows her kids to play at homes where she doesn't know the parents. In those situations, she requires the new friends to come to her. Every parent has their own set of rules, but would you allow your kids to play in unfamiliar homes?
