Are "Save Our Show" Campaigns Endearing or Annoying?

I'm usually supportive and even awed when fans rise up to try to save a little-watched show they love. It's especially nice when the show is dear to my own heart (Friday Night Lights) or involves a seriously overwhelming amount of peanuts (Jericho). But I must be getting "Save Our Show" fatigue, because this campaign to save The Mole is just doing nothing for me. Maybe it's because I don't have any strong feelings about The Mole one way or another, but instead of feeling all "Yeah, you tell the networks who's boss!" about it, my reaction is more like "Nice thought, but it's never gonna work."

How are the rest of you feeling about "Save Our Show" campaigns these days? Are they a touching gesture on behalf of great shows, or are they just a waste of everyone's time?

Here's What We'll Be Watching on TV This Summer

ABC, CBS, and Fox have joined NBC in releasing their Summer schedules in recent days, and while we're still waiting on The CW, this already gives us a pretty good sense of how the season will look. There's a lot of reality, of course, but at least one cool scripted series is also on the schedule. Here are some of the goodies:

Swingtown, the CBS series about '70s swinger couples, will finally see the light of day! It's scheduled to air Thursday nights at 10 starting June 5.
So You Think You Can Dance will be the centerpiece of Fox's Summer schedule again (yay!), following last year's pattern of performance shows on Wednesdays and results shows on Thursdays. The show will also have a two-night premiere starting Thursday, May 22, and continuing the following Wednesday.
NBC is touting this as its All-American Summer, thanks to the August broadcast of the Summer Olympics. Apparently, a big part of that is American Gladiators, which returns May 12.
The High School Musical reality show, now called High School Musical: Summer Session, will begin airing July 20, taking over both Sundays and Mondays for three weeks and ultimately airing on Mondays until the grand-prize winner is chosen.
ABC's two big reality franchises, The Bachelorette and The Mole, both kick off in May: The Bachelorette starts May 19, while the new edition of The Mole starts May 26.
Last Comic Standing, meanwhile, returns to NBC May 22.

The presentation of the Cecil B. DeMille award to Steven Spielberg that was supposed to happen at the Golden Globes has been pushed to the 2009 Golden Globes, Variety writes.
In other Globes news, NBC has confirmed it will air a two-hour Dateline special on the awards before Sunday's press conference; details on the guests are at The Futon Critic. Also, TV Week reports that NBC will give refunds to some advertisers who had bought spots for the awards.
ComingSoon reports that the cast has been set for Solomon Kane, an "epic tale of a 16th century soldier tormented by his past evil deeds."
Variety reports Sundance alums like Quentin Tarantino, Sandra Oh and Alan Alda are heading back to Park City this year - as judges.
Though the dates aren't nailed down just yet, Radiohead has set the cities for its North American summer tour, writes Billboard. Also, their In Rainbows topped the chart this week.
Kate Winslet will replace Nicole Kidman in The Reader now that Kidman is pregnant, Zap2it reports.
Variety reports that ABC will resurrect The Mole for broadcast this summer. No host has been found yet; after all, Anderson Cooper's busy.

The actress has been busy with multiple projects, including Girl in Progress, which hits theaters in April, and Holly Motors, though much of her headline making is due to boyfriend Ryan Gosling. The duo worked together on The Place Beyond the Pines last year and have been spotted sharing romantic dates in Paris, Disneyland, and around LA since. Eva touched on working with Ryan, her own insecurities, and how she gets her glowing skin. Here's more from Eva Mendes in Marie Claire:

On working with Ryan Gosling: "He’s your dream costar. I have never felt so creatively satisfied on a film."
On her diet and workout routine: "I run four to five times a week, mixing it up among distance running, intervals on a track, and running uphill on a treadmill. I don't eat meat and stopped eating chicken - my skin has gotten a lot better."
On her body image: "What I tell girls is what they don’t like about themselves now, they will probably end up loving as an adult, because that’s what happened to me. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy: I Spy a Masterpiece

The fact that Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is a well-crafted mystery that allows you to play detective yourself would be enough for me to say it's good, but the fact that it's so superbly acted makes it great. In the 1970s-set film, Gary Oldman plays George Smiley, a former intelligence officer who's summoned out of retirement to help root out a mole in Britain's Secret Intelligence Service, AKA "the Circus." Oldman leads an ensemble of incredible actors like Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Mark Strong, Toby Jones, and up-and-comers like Benedict Cumberbatch.

The men play British agents in the Circus devoted to monitoring the intelligence between Russia, Britain, and the US during the Cold War. The agents have a long history of working together, but each one is potentially the double agent working for the Soviets. As Smiley unearths clues to reveal the identity of the mole, the film makes you trust and doubt each of the suspects equally with an absorbing story that's worthy of its fine cast. Get Naked With Your S.O. and Check Your Skin

Fall weather might mean your skin is all covered up, but you still shouldn't neglect the largest organ in your body. Covering Health magazine, the actress from the new film Machine Gun Preacher, Michelle Monaghan, talks candidly about her brush with skin cancer:

" . . . A few years ago I had a mole on the back of my calf, and he [husband, Peter White] was adamant that I get it checked. In Australia, they're very aware of skin cancer. I finally went and it was skin cancer. I had quite the chunk taken out of my leg. I'm so grateful he noticed it."

After my hubby's dermatologist noticed and removed a weird mole on his back, we've become super vigilant about checking each other's skin. And last year, he found a mole on my back, in the same spot as his! Weird, I know, but I feel better since I've had it removed.

Learn from Michelle and take this as a friendly reminder to get naked with your favorite person and check every inch of each other's skin for raised, abnormally shaped, or discolored moles, or moles that look different than the last time you checked. Hey, it's not the most romantic way to hang out without your clothes, but it's one way you can ensure you live a long, healthy life together. It's scary to think that you might have skin cancer, but it's way better to have anything questionable checked out and removed, so you know you're skin is cancer-free.

Why Your Stylist Might Save Your Life

In medieval Europe, there existed barber surgeons: haircutters who also happened to perform some minor medical procedures like bloodletting and teeth pulling. And in modern times, it seems the stylist/medical connection just may be drawing closer - although not quite to Middle Ages extremes.

A recent study performed by Harvard's School of Public Health found that of 203 Houston-area hairstylists polled, 58 percent had recommended that their clients have suspicious moles checked. Since stylists work so close to their clients' hair, scalps, necks, and faces, this gave Alan Gellar, the study's coauthor, pause. He, along with his Harvard colleagues, are currently working with the Melanoma Foundation of New England, and have formed The Skinny on Skin, a Massachusetts program to help educate hair professionals on what to look for when it comes to possibly cancerous spots on their clients' skin.
