Are "Save Our Show" Campaigns Endearing or Annoying?

I'm usually supportive and even awed when fans rise up to try to save a little-watched show they love. It's especially nice when the show is dear to my own heart (Friday Night Lights) or involves a seriously overwhelming amount of peanuts (Jericho). But I must be getting "Save Our Show" fatigue, because this campaign to save The Mole is just doing nothing for me. Maybe it's because I don't have any strong feelings about The Mole one way or another, but instead of feeling all "Yeah, you tell the networks who's boss!" about it, my reaction is more like "Nice thought, but it's never gonna work."

How are the rest of you feeling about "Save Our Show" campaigns these days? Are they a touching gesture on behalf of great shows, or are they just a waste of everyone's time?

Here's What We'll Be Watching on TV This Summer

ABC, CBS, and Fox have joined NBC in releasing their Summer schedules in recent days, and while we're still waiting on The CW, this already gives us a pretty good sense of how the season will look. There's a lot of reality, of course, but at least one cool scripted series is also on the schedule. Here are some of the goodies:

Swingtown, the CBS series about '70s swinger couples, will finally see the light of day! It's scheduled to air Thursday nights at 10 starting June 5.
So You Think You Can Dance will be the centerpiece of Fox's Summer schedule again (yay!), following last year's pattern of performance shows on Wednesdays and results shows on Thursdays. The show will also have a two-night premiere starting Thursday, May 22, and continuing the following Wednesday.
NBC is touting this as its All-American Summer, thanks to the August broadcast of the Summer Olympics. Apparently, a big part of that is American Gladiators, which returns May 12.
The High School Musical reality show, now called High School Musical: Summer Session, will begin airing July 20, taking over both Sundays and Mondays for three weeks and ultimately airing on Mondays until the grand-prize winner is chosen.
ABC's two big reality franchises, The Bachelorette and The Mole, both kick off in May: The Bachelorette starts May 19, while the new edition of The Mole starts May 26.
Last Comic Standing, meanwhile, returns to NBC May 22.

As for other reality shows, there's a ridiculous-sounding crop in the works - many of which were in my spot the fake pilot quiz. To check out a list, just

CBS has Greatest American Dog (dogs and their owners competing on various tasks), Million Dollar Password (like the old-school game show but with celebrities and Regis Philbin as host), and Jingles (contestants have to write jingles pitching products, sports teams, or entertainment options).
ABC has Wipeout (the falling-down game show), I Survived a Japanese Game Show (which ships contestants to Japan and judges them on how best they adapt to the culture, which just sounds odd), and Dance Machine (which pits regular people against each other in "dance-offs" to popular songs).
NBC has two we've already talked about, but they're so crazy I have to mention them again: The Baby Borrowers (teenage couples are entrusted with raising children) and Celebrity Circus (exactly what it sounds like). Luckily, ABC has canceled its own celeb-circus show.

The presentation of the Cecil B. DeMille award to Steven Spielberg that was supposed to happen at the Golden Globes has been pushed to the 2009 Golden Globes, Variety writes.
In other Globes news, NBC has confirmed it will air a two-hour Dateline special on the awards before Sunday's press conference; details on the guests are at The Futon Critic. Also, TV Week reports that NBC will give refunds to some advertisers who had bought spots for the awards.
ComingSoon reports that the cast has been set for Solomon Kane, an "epic tale of a 16th century soldier tormented by his past evil deeds."
Variety reports Sundance alums like Quentin Tarantino, Sandra Oh and Alan Alda are heading back to Park City this year - as judges.
Though the dates aren't nailed down just yet, Radiohead has set the cities for its North American summer tour, writes Billboard. Also, their In Rainbows topped the chart this week.
Kate Winslet will replace Nicole Kidman in The Reader now that Kidman is pregnant, Zap2it reports.
Variety reports that ABC will resurrect The Mole for broadcast this summer. No host has been found yet; after all, Anderson Cooper's busy.

How the Alphabet Can Prevent Skin Cancer

Most of the more than one million cases of skin cancer that are diagnosed in the US each year are considered sun-related, and of those, almost 11,000 people will die each year. That's a lot of deaths that could be prevented if people just took care of their skin by wearing sunscreen and doing skin self-exams. Check yourself for suspicious-looking moles, and if you find something odd, make an appointment immediately with a dermatologist.

If you're not sure what you should be looking for - this is where your knowledge of the alphabet comes into play - follow the A,B,C,D,E rule. To learn the rule, just

A for asymmetry: A mole that, when divided in half, doesn't look the same on both sides.

B for border: A mole with edges that are blurry or jagged.

C for color: Changes in the color of a mole, including darkening, spread of color, loss of color, or the appearance of multiple colors such as blue, red, white, pink, purple or gray.

D for diameter: A mole larger than 1/4 inch in diameter.

E for elevation: A mole that is raised above the skin and has an uneven surface.

Check your skin often and look for these changes in your moles. Also be on the lookout for oozing, bleeding, itchiness, tenderness, or a mole that grows quickly. If detected early enough, the mole can be tested and removed if it's cancerous.

To protect yourself from future sun damage, remember to apply sunscreen 20-30 minutes before going outside, reapply it every two hours to prevent sunburn, and keep your skin protected at all times.
