Fall TV Update: Eastwick, the Forgotten, and Life Unexpected

A few weeks ago I gave you guys a roundup of the fate of Fall's newest shows, but there's been some shake-ups in the industry this week. The first is sad news for Eastwick fans: the show has been canceled and will be gone after its first 13 episodes are aired. Lindsay Price just can't catch a break, can she?

Elsewhere on ABC, Christian Slater's The Forgotten is still ticking with five more episodes added to the season, but Let's Dance - the newest celebrity dance competition hosted by Kathy Griffin - is dead in the water. Apparently the show runners couldn't round up enough celeb talent, which is good news for those of you who are sick of all the dance shows.

Finally, the CW's newest addition to the prime-time lineup, Life Unexpected, has gotten a release date. The drama starring WB vets Shiri Appleby and Kerr Smith will premiere on Jan. 18, taking Gossip Girl's time slot while GG goes on a hiatus.

Christian Slater Could Take Over Lead in The Forgotten

So My Own Worst Enemy didn't work out so well for Christian Slater, but that hasn't deterred the actor from taking another stab at TV. Slater is now in negotiations to star in ABC's Fall drama series The Forgotten.

The drama, from producer Jerry Bruckheimer, focuses on a group of amateur investigators who try to track down people who go missing. Slater would play the group's leader, a former cop whose young daughter was kidnapped.

ABC picked up the series at May's Upfronts, but the network later decided to find new actors for two roles - including the lead, which initially went to British actor Rupert Penry-Jones. The role of the group's female leader, originally played by Reiko Aylesworth, is also being recast.

TV News: Casting, Recasting, and Some Dream Casting

We now mostly know what shows will be on our TVs come Fall - but who will be starring in them? After pilot season comes a flurry of casting and recasting, as actors whose shows didn't get picked up look for work and networks change up the lineups on some of the forthcoming series. Today, there's word of a big casting, some recastings, and Joss Whedon's dream casting:

The casting: Freddie Prinze Jr.'s ABC comedy pilot wasn't picked up, but the actor didn't have to wait long for a job: He's joining the cast of 24 as a Marine who dreams of becoming a sort of Jack Bauer Jr. He joins a growing number of new cast members for the season, including Anil Kapoor, John Boyd, Chris Diamantopoulos, and Jennifer Westfeldt.
The recastings: A few pilots-turned-series are already searching for replacements for their lead actors. Among those now out of work: Julia Ormond, who was supposed to play the head of surgery in CBS's Three Rivers, and two lead actors in ABC's The Forgotten, Reiko Aylesworth and Rupert Penry-Jones.
The dream casting: Summer Glau is out of work following the cancellation of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, but Joss Whedon might have a job for her. As you read this, he's trying to come up with just the right role to get her onto Dollhouse next season. He doesn't really want her to play an active, though - so what else could you picture her doing on the show?

First Look: ABC's New Dramas

In addition to the four new comedies ABC announced at its Upfront presentation this week, the network also laid out plans for six new dramas, three for Fall and three for midseason.

Flash Forward, The Forgotten, and Eastwick are the first three we'll see, with Flash Forward taking Ugly Betty's old time slot on Thursdays and Eastwick anchoring the all-new Wednesday night lineup.

Michael who? OK, we haven't forgotten Phelps yet, but there's a new kid in town who's dazzling us with his ripped body and gold medals. Ryan Lochte aka "The Lochtenator" is looking mighty fine on the Team USA cover of Vogue in his swimwear, alongside soccer's Hope Solo and tennis star Serena Williams.

"New" may be a misnomer, as the 27-year-old American swimmer is already a six-time Olympic medalist and has carried both World Swimmer of the Year and American Swimmer of the Year titles. Ryan is known to sport a diamond-encrusted grill, and besides a thing for sparkly teeth some other fun facts about the hottie include that his mother is Cuban, he majored in sports management in college, and he has a tattoo of the Olympic rings on the inside of his right bicep. 9 Easy Tricks to Maximize Your Wardrobe

The great thing is that you have the power to control that message entirely - as long as what you already own isn’t standing in your way.

From having a wardrobe that’s bursting with every item of clothing you’ve had since childhood to owning a ton of pieces that you never wear (the definition of wasted money), these are the ways your closet can stop you from being the most stylish version of yourself.

To cut through the clutter and help you get the most from the items you already have, we polled everyone we know - including all of the LearnVest editors, who are definitely invested in looking their best on a budget, and one fashion expert - to come up with nine easy, inventive ways for you to make over the closet you have without spending a ton on new trends.

At least one of these strategies will dramatically change the way you feel about getting dressed in the morning.

1. Follow the Rainbow

This strategy comes courtesy of LearnVest reader Erin Greenbaum, who has used this technique for years with great success. Every day for a week, make sure that your ensemble includes an item of a certain color: week one is red, two is orange, three is yellow, etc. This will encourage you to search through your closet and actually wear the pieces that have been languishing, unloved, underneath your go-to items.

2. First In, Last Out

In her new book, You Are What You Wear, Dr. Jennifer Baumgartner says that the majority of people wear 20 percent of their closet 80 percent of the time. There are variations on this “first in, last out” wardrobe strategy, which prevent you from wearing a few pieces nonstop.

Instead of wearing the same small percentage of your closet every week, do what Assistant Editor Alden Wicker does: after wearing an outfit, she hangs it in the most remote corner of her closet, which forces her to see only pieces she hasn’t worn frequently. If she’s totally uninspired by a piece staring her right in the face, she has to decide whether to consign it or not. Another approach (which might be better if you like to organize by item type - dresses near dresses, shirts near shirts) is to hang each item inside out after you wear it (assuming you don’t have to wash it immediately). This way, you can easily see which pieces you’ve recently worn and which items you may have forgotten about.
