Movie Preview: Lee Pace in The Fall

The lush, other-worldly film The Fall was made long before Lee Pace was coming into American homes on a weekly basis via Pushing Daisies, but I only recently came across the trailer for it and learned that it has a new release date of May 9. Pace plays Roy Walker, a bedridden man who meets a little girl in the hospital. He starts telling her a fantastical tale, which as the description puts it, "reflects his state of mind." Before too long, "fiction and reality start to intertwine in this uplifting epic fantasy."

The film looks visually stunning (seriously, scroll through these vibrant images), and I'm curious to check it out in May. To see the trailer for The Fall,

Misha Nonoo's rich, refined Fall collection was inspired by the impeccable tailoring of Savile Row and paid a quiet homage to French cinematic legend Anouk Aimée and Francoise Sagan's 1958 film Bonjour Tristesse. In addition to her signature jackets, the recent Rising Star Award winner showed collared blouses in hammered silks, paired with perfectly cut trousers and luxe fur accents - conveying the importance of silhouette and form in each look.

Trends: Brightly colored trousers and button-up blouses, hexagon prints, bell-shaped hems, fur accents.
Colors: Teal, plum, crimson, navy.

Pamela Love Fall 2012

Standing in front of industrial pipes and exposed lights, models at Pamela Love's Fall 2012 collection were dressed up like steelworkers, complete with smudged faces and undone overalls. They were also draped in sculptural, geometric jewelry that referenced architectural beams, and the deco-inspired shapes brought to mind the post-Depression '30s. The raw, masculine setting added a toughness to the collection, but imagine how good these will look with a flowy white dress come Spring.

Trends: Architectural details, deco, arm bands.
Key Piece: We loved the statement necklaces.
Who Would Wear It: Pamela Love is having a moment, and we see downtown cool girls eating this up - think Erin Wasson, Cara Delevingne, and Zoe Kravitz.

Peter Som Fall 2012

Katharine Hepburn and Marlene Dietrich served as Peter Som's inspiration for his Fall 2012 collection - specifically, their knack for exuding femininity even when they donned menswear. The show started with a pretty ode to Winter white - monochromatic outfits got a textural punch thanks to cool fabric combinations like wool with organza. The play between masculine and feminine came through via tailoring and textures: streamlined silhouettes were softened with details like eyelet and bonded satin. There were strong sculptural references in the ultra-fitted tops that suddenly burst into waves of peplum, and wrap jackets structured with molded balloon sleeves. And what of the glamour that Hollywood icons like Hepburn and Dietrich were famous for? It came through in the luxe furs, particularly a teal fur coat over a twill voile pant that glimmered under the runway lights.

Trends: Multicolored fur, balloon sleeves, peplum, architectural silhouettes.
Colors: Plum, emerald, ivory, ruby.
Key Piece: The peplum tops are a must have for their mix of fantastic tailoring and femininity.
Accessories: Aperlai did the shoes, including two-tone pumps.
Who Would Wear It: Olivia Palermo sat front row, and we bet she'll be wearing the peplum tops next season. Confident, fashion-loving girls who crave a statement piece will dig this collection.

Cynthia Rowley Fall 2012

Deriving inspiration from craftsmen - mechanics, cobblers, and (much more obviously) leathermen, Cynthia Rowley's own Fall craftsmanship honed in on these artists with a succinctly modern and much sportier interpretation. Save for denim on denim suiting or brilliant colored leather, there's not too much literal interpretation, but rather a cool collection of womanly, curve-conscious design married with menswear-inspired structure. We're treated to bold all-over prints washed over body-skimming sheaths, skinny pants, and even gloves. And while a tougher, boxier leather jacket lined in shearling might pinpoint Rowley's craftsmen influences, what takes shape is still definitively for the girls.

Trends: Colored leather, abstract prints, menswear.
Colors: Blue, black, maroon, orange, olive green, gray, white.
Key Piece: We love the printed pants, shearling-trimmed jacket, and deep navy leather pieces.
Accessories: Aviator shades, ankle boots, strappy platforms and socks, jeweled necklaces at the collar, feather-adorned bags, graphic printed gloves.
Who Would Wear It: Girls with an appetite for truly modern, crafty sportswear.

Creatures of the Wind Gets Twisted For Fall

Creatures of the Wind, a Chicago-based fashion duo, is quickly picking up buzz as they continue to show at New York Fashion Week. The CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund runners-up presented their Fall 2012 collection at the Desmond Tutu Center, and the beauty look was just as creative and offbeat as their designs. The hair alone was dramatic, complex, and remarkable - making it the perfect pairing for these rising stars.

Nicholas K Fall 2012

Nancy Sinatra's epic "Bang Bang," set the mood for Nicholas Kunz's Fall Nicholas K collection. Inspired by the Taos artists in the '20s and '30s, Kunz imagined a line bursting with Western influence - we loved all of the cool Stetson-inspired hats - and a dash of deco. Fringe was heavily prevalent, making its way onto geometric leather jackets, sheer crochet dresses, and for a vintage touch, metallic fringed flapper dresses. For eveningwear, Kunz showed off her signature draping technique on a variety of gorgeous sexy bias-cut dresses and fluid tops. The outerwear category also shined: parka jackets came complete with inner straps (so the coat can hang just off the shoulders), structured leather jackets highlighted by luxe fur collars, and the closing look featured an undeniably slick black asymmetric leather and canvas zippered coat.
