Matthew McConaughey Is the New Dallas Buyer

The Dallas Buyer's Club is one of those projects that has been floating around Hollywood for years, just waiting for the stars to align with the right director and actor. When we last heard about it, Ryan Gosling was set to take it on with his Lars and the Real Girl director Craig Gillespie, but the plan fell through. Now, Matthew McConaughey has scooped up the film, in which he'll star as real-life AIDS patient Woodroof, an electrician in Dallas who started a drug ring to acquire the illegal medications he needed to fight for his life. McConaughey has locked in director Jean Marc Vallee (The Young Victoria) to help get the project off the ground. Only time will tell if the film finally finds its wings, but I'm on board with another serious turn for McConaughey - especially one that takes the Texas native back to his hometown.

Lars and the Real Girl Director Teams Up With Gosling Again

Director Craig Gillespie and Ryan Gosling will combine their talents once more, and no, not for a Lars and the Real Girl sequel.

Titled The Dallas Buyers Club, the movie follows an inspiring true story. Variety has more:

Dallas Buyers Club is the true story of Ron Woodroof, a tough Texas electrician who was diagnosed with AIDS in 1986 and given six months to live. Frustrated with the lack of available medical options and unwilling to accept a death sentence, Woodroof found a lifeline using alternative drugs and created a lucrative smuggling business that made those drugs available to AIDS patients. Woodroof died in 1992.

If this film ends up with even an inkling of the aching poignancy of Lars and the Real Girl, I am all about it. I can't wait to see Gosling show us more of the dramatic chops we know he has. I anticipate my heart breaking from this film but with this team, I welcome it. You?

Matthew McConaughey's on Pace For a Big Weekend

Matthew McConaughey was back to his grind hitting the pavement for a jog followed by ab workout on the beach in Malibu yesterday. He was in fine form last Thursday night in a Dolce & Gabbana suit at the LA premiere of his latest flick, The Lincoln Lawyer, accompanied by his lovely partner Camila Alves. His costar Ryan Phillippe walked the red carpet solo, but later met up with girlfriend Amanda Seyfried at the afterparty. Ryan may be adding a new member to his family if rumors about a baby on the way are true and as far as Matthew's family life is concerned Levi's loving playing the part of big brother to Vida. Right now Matthew's hoping for a solid opening weekend at the box office and he'll be doing his part to earn it by continuing his talk show circuit this week. Next up the Alves-McConaughey clan may be returning to his home state of Texas where he's hoping to make his next dramatic film, The Dallas Buyer's Club.
