David and Brooklyn Hit the Field While Victoria Focuses on Fashion

David Beckham stopped to watch his oldest son, Brooklyn, at soccer practice yesterday in LA. The father of four was back home after a jaunt to London, where he went clubbing with Prince Harry and made the press rounds to promote his underwear line with H&M. The steamy TV commercial for David's collection made its debut during the Super Bowl last Sunday, and David admitted watching the spot for the first time made him blush!

With David back in town to hang out with their boys, Victoria Beckham took their daughter Harper along with her to NYC on Tuesday. Victoria headed to the Big Apple just in time for Fashion Week, where she'll show the Fall/Winter 2012 collection from her eponymous line as well as Victoria by Victoria Beckham. Her designs have been a hit among celebrities and critics alike, and rumors that she might be dressing some A-list celebrities for the Oscars later this month have started to circulate.

It's not the most action-packed episode we've ever seen, but there was a hell of a lot of plot development to make up for that. Family is the running theme this week, as Klaus is trying to recover his ~~coffins~~ family members, and naturally he uses Elena's loved ones as bait. Meanwhile, Elena is having some problems relating to Jeremy, who is suddenly acting like his rebellious, season-one self. When Do You Turn Off the Baby Monitor For Good?

My friend posed this question on Facebook: “At what age did you detach yourself from the monitor with your child?” She was wondering if she should get rid of the baby monitor for her 4-year-old son who “sleeps with his door open…(and has been) talking/yelling in his sleep soooo much lately, (she) was up almost hourly to check on him.”

I left a comment telling her to retire the baby monitor. Honestly, I never really used our baby monitor much. My husband and I slept upstairs on the same floor as our kids, and I am the type of sleeper who would wake up if one of my baby’s coughed loudly. A monitor by my bedside would have revved my mind and kept me awake. Every little stir would have me evaluating my baby’s well-being and I would spiraled into an motherhood-OCD-worrywart hell.

Besides, as one mom said in my friend’s Facebook comments, if a baby’s stirs or cries are important enough, you’ll know.

That said, we did place a baby monitor in our basement since our baby slept two floors up. But even then, I could hear important cries sans monitor.

As for a video monitor, that would’ve wired me to no end so I never bothered. My friend said she used to watch it so obsessively, her dreams would be about her baby on the video monitor. Another friend said she watched the video monitor until she noticed her toddler boy could only get to sleep if he played with his private part and she just didn’t want to know that.

I will say there are two things I liked about the auditory baby monitor:

Once my husband and I heard another couple in our so-called perfect town fighting about stupid things such as his overgrown nose hairs and her annoying food-chomping habits. We had no idea who these people were so it was rather amusing and we took it as free entertainment. I know, it was immature and bad of us but it was a train-wreck-we-had-to-watch moment.
I never did this but I always wanted to turn the baby monitor on when my husband and his friends played cards, drank beer and watched back-to-back football games. After all the guys left, I’d ask my husband what they all talked about and he’d say “nothing.” Nothing? For six hours? I don’t buy it and so I always threatened to eavesdrop via baby monitor. My husband said all I’d hear is a lot of gas passing.

So tell me: Did you use a baby monitor? What kind? When did you ditch it? Did you ever eavesdrop on anyone or have any funny baby-monitor mishaps?

Victoria, Harper, and the Beckham Boys Watch David's Galaxy Win

The whole Beckham family showed up at the Home Depot Center outside of LA to cheer on David yesterday. His Galaxy took on Chivas USA and won by just one goal. The team is on a roll and also was victorious in their match against Real Salt Lake earlier this month. Victoria and Harper Beckham are back in California following a trip to London, where they stopped by the office of 17 Management. While the girls were overseas last week, David hit the soccer field with his boys. Romeo and Cruz kicked the ball around while David and Brooklyn relaxed on the sidelines. David was solo, though, when he went for a motorcycle ride around town on Friday.

Gwen Stefani Splits Her Time With Zuma and Kingston as No Doubt's Reunion Gets Delayed

Gwen Stefani was hand in hand with Zuma Rossdale yesterday on their way to a London park. Today, she stepped out with Kingston Rossdale, who was wearing a new pair of glasses, for a bite to eat. Gwen and the boys have been hanging out together in Gavin Rossdale's hometown while he's on the road with Bush. Gwen has been splitting her time in England between kid-friendly outings to the aquarium and the zoo with Kingston and Zuma and grown-up nights on the town. She met up with Kate Winslet at a cookbook launch last week and also recently partied in honor of Stella McCartney's 40th. Gwen celebrated her own birthday, her 42nd, on Oct. 3. The singer relaxed with her kids and accepted a major delivery of flowers on the big day. Gavin couldn't be there because of his concert dates back in the States, and the rocker pair will likely trade off touring duties next year, when No Doubt's reunion album finally debuts. The quartet has been recording songs for the CD since January, but just announced that the finished product won't be out until next year despite initial plans to release it in 2011.

Jennifer Garner Juggles Pregnancy, Producing, and Two Hot Drinks

Jennifer Garner stopped by Brentwood Country Mart this morning to pick up a couple of hot drinks. The pregnant actress let her baby bump peek out from under a red cardigan as she ran her morning errands. Jennifer is back home after taking a quick trip out of town over the weekend while Ben Affleck clocked some quality time with their daughters Seraphina and Violet. Jennifer recently said having a boy would be "weird" after spending so many years raising only girls and growing up in a family with two sisters. Nonetheless, she said she'd welcome the experience as a fun adventure. This year will be full of new beginnings for the actress. Not only will she and Ben welcome their third child, but Jennifer is also stepping into a producer role, developing the comedy Cartoon Marriage for ABC, which is based on a real-life couple who both work as cartoonists for the New Yorker magazine.

David Beckham Watches the Galaxy Win and Talks Going Gray Since Harper's Birth

David brought all the Beckham boys, including his father Ted, to the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA, last night. The guys watched from their box seats as the Galaxy beat the Mexican team Monarcas Morelia 2 to 1. David was forced to sit out due to a one-game suspension he received after getting two yellow cards last week. He'll be back with his team on Saturday, however, when they take on Real Salt Lake in front of their home crowd. Cruz, Romeo, and Brooklyn joked around with their grandfather, Ted, during the game while their little sister, Harper, hung at home with Victoria. Victoria had her own night out on the town Tuesday when she joined David at Marc Athony's concert. Harper's been a hot topic of conversation for the Beckhams, and she was on the forefront of questioning during a recent interview. David's on the cover of WSJ Magazine’s October men’s style issue, which is out Saturday. Inside the edition, he speaks about the London riots and how Harper's affecting his legendary looks. He said:

David on the London riots: “I think it’s disgusting what’s going on. The problem is, there is a minority of youth today in England who are not scared of authority. It they steal something, they are not worried about the consequences. When I was a kid growing up, I respected elders, I respected the law. If I was on a bus and an elderly lady got on, I would stand up and let her sit down. That doesn’t happen these days. . . . We’ve got the Olympics next year, and these pictures are being seen all around the world. It makes be physically sick."
David on gray hair: "Got my first gray a few years ago, and a couple more since we’ve had the little girl!”

Working From Home, With Kids and (Most of) Your Sanity

I work full time outside of the home. (Staying home is a career choice, not a moral imperative; please don't criticize my choice to bring home the bacon, and I won't criticize your choice to fry it up in pan, so to speak.) It works well for our family, except during the rare times when my husband is out of town and my kids are also out of school. That happened a few weeks ago, at a point when I couldn't get time off from work. The solution: request permission to work part of the week from home. With my kids there. On deadline.
