New Moon, The Hangover Lead MTV Movie Awards Noms

This morning I gave you a little taste of the nominees for the 2010 MTV Movie Awards with the Best Kiss contenders, but now the full list is out! Naturally, the Twilight kids are all over these categories, but New Moon also gets some lofty competition from movies like The Hangover, The Proposal, and Avatar. With categories like "Best WTF Moment" and "Best Scared-as-S**t Performance," we're definitely not in Oscar season anymore, but with the show's history of shenanigans and Aziz Ansari playing host, it should be a night of fun.

What to Rent: New DVD Tuesday

Need to settle in with some new movies at home? A couple of highly-anticipated (and Oscar-nominated) flicks emerge on DVD and Blu-ray today. In addition to the titles below, Brothers and Mad Men Season 3 are also available today.

The Blind Side

Feast your eyes on Sandra Bullock's Oscar-winning role in The Blind Side now if you missed the movie in theaters. The heartwarming true story is about a poverty-stricken young man who's taken in by a wealthy family, led by Bullock's Lee Ann Tuohy. The subject matter seems like it could be cheesy, but I was very pleasantly surprised. It's restrained, sweet, and will make you feel good. The DVD extras include deleted scenes, while the Blu-ray has an interview with the real Michael Oher and additional featurettes.

Fantastic Mr. Fox

Wes Anderson's animated feature is a pure delight - not necessarily meant for kids, but grown-ups with a wicked sense of humor will appreciate it. George Clooney voices the main character, the titular fox, while Meryl Streep is his wife. The other standout voice is Jason Schwartzman as their son, who gives his role depth and comedy. Fantastic Mr. Fox was one of my favorite movies of 2009 - don't miss it. The extras include clips on how the movie was made.

read more. The Men Who Stare at Goats George Clooney stars as Lyn Cassady, a self-proclaimed "Jedi Warrior" who uses his talent for mind tricks to help the US Army find anyone, anywhere in Iraq. The story is kooky fun in parts, but I felt like it had a serious case of ADD that ultimately does the film a disservice. Still, I'd rent it to catch Oscar winner Jeff Bridges do yet another of his Dude-type roles as Cassady's hippie commander. Plus, the extras include interviews with the men of the original battalion on which the story is based - interesting! 53%

Four? Seven? All 10? We were recently taking our own tally at Sugar HQ, and several editors have been trying to squeeze in last-minute viewing parties of the Oscar nominees they've missed out on before tonight's big award gets handed out.

But what about you? Hopefully, by now you've already seen the ones most likely to win, but take my poll, and tell me how many you've seen. Here's the full list of titles to refresh your memory: Up, Avatar, The Hurt Locker, The Blind Side, An Education, Inglourious Basterds, A Serious Man, District 9, Precious, and Up in the Air.

Buzz Interview: The Blind Side's Quinton Aaron Talks Oscars

While I was in LA for the weekend covering the Grammys, I happened to bump into a very, very tall Quinton Aaron, the star of The Blind Side, at a red carpet event. You know I couldn't pass up the opportunity to get his opinion on all of the hoopla surrounding the film - don't forget it's Oscar-nominated now! He was incredibly humble as he talked about the movie, his crush on Sandra Bullock, and his thoughts on that golden statuette.

On if he knew that the film would go on to be such a huge hit:
“I didn’t have any clue about the success of the film. I just knew that it was a great story, and that it was a lead role and something that I wanted to do. Being an actor, you want to be in a movie that’s going to put you to the next level in your career. And that turned out to be the perfect role for somebody my size. It worked out.”

Sandra Bullock and The Blind Side Make History

2009 was a very good year for Sandra Bullock, and the actress is bringing her big success right into 2010. Over the weekend, The Blind Side became the first female-driven movie to rake in over $200 million at the box office. It's hard to believe yet incredibly empowering at the same time - even megastars like Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep have yet to hit the $200 million mark without the help of a male costar.

I couldn't be happier to see one of Hollywood's most beloved actresses blazing a new trail, and hopefully this is just the first of many big blockbusters we'll see from the slew other talented ladies in the industry. Plus, Bullock's award-worthy performance absolutely deserves the recognition, as does The Blind Side.

Now, we'll just have to wait and see if her luck will continue throughout the upcoming award season - starting with the People's Choice tomorrow night!

Box Office: Avatar Is Still Unstoppable

Another holiday weekend, another big win for Avatar. The film still held strong at the No. 1 spot, pulling in an impressive $68.3 million domestically and bulldozing the rest of the competition, including Sherlock Holmes which came in second with $38.3 million.

Avatar's earnings push it past the $1 billion mark globally, making it the fourth highest grossing film worldwide behind James Cameron's other baby, Titanic, as well as Lord of the Rings: Return of the King and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. And it's only in its third weekend in theaters so time will tell.

Rounding out the rest of the top five was Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel with $36.6 million, It's Complicated with $18.7 million, and The Blind Side which continued to surprise by earning $12.6 million - even better than last week's figures.
