Emily Maynard won Brad Womack's second Bachelor season, but their engagement ended shortly after cameras stopped rolling. It sounds like she got over that heartache, because Emily will be the next Bachelorette and will return to ABC to find a mate.

On The Bachelor, Maynard was memorable for being a single mom, which, incidentally, will dictate where her season will shoot - her hometown of Charlotte, NC - so that Maynard won't have to leave her daughter. I like Emily, and it'll be interesting to see what kind of guy she chooses, but I'm getting tired of producers always choosing a former contestant to be the next Bachelor or Bachelorette. I would have loved to see someone fresh and new, but what about you? Are you happy Emily is the next Bachelorette?

Former Bachelorette Ali on Long Engagements, Ashley's Sister, and Chris Harrison's Favorite Word

Last night on The Bachelorette, Ashley Hebert swapped her final rose with an engagement ring from J.P. Rosenbaum, finishing out the latest season of the reality show. I chatted with the previous bachelorette, Ali Fedotowsky, about why she and fiancé Roberto Martinez don't have a wedding date set (besides her knee injury), her thoughts as a big sister herself on Ashley's sister's harsh behavior, and why she thinks Chris Harrison is one of the funniest people she's ever met.

TrèsSugar: I saw on your Facebook that you were pretty peeved about the whole drama with Ashley's sister.

Ali Fedotowsky: Oh gosh, it was making me so mad! I'm a big sister so I know what it feels like to want to protect your younger sibling. I get that, but I think she sort of crossed the line when she was just really being mean to J.P. When she said, "I don't support you proposing," after knowing him for 15 minutes, that's really not right. That was inappropriate for her to say.

TS: What do you think the role of the sister is when it comes to meeting your significant other?

AF: I think the role of the sister is to just be happy if your sister is happy. I have a sister and she has gone through some pretty awful things in different relationships, and I never ever once had judged the man she was with, even if I didn't agree with what he did. I would always just be there for her, and if she's happy, I'm happy.

TS: How are things with Roberto? And what is it like watching the show after being on it?

AF: We're doing great. I just called him yesterday to tell him how happy I was. I feel corny like that sometimes. I'm watching the finale last night, and I'm like, "Wow, that's how I met my future husband." It's so weird! We have these friends that we just recently became great friends with in San Diego, and they had never seen [the show]. We watched the first one, and they're like, "Who's going to get the first impression rose? No really, Roberto got the first impression rose?!" Then I showed them the finale and, of course me and my friend Stephanie are both bawling watching. Every single time I see my proposal, I cry. It's just so fun reliving those moments, and we just feel so blessed that we have them to look back on.

TS: It seems like a lot of the bachelors and bachelorettes get engaged and then have these long engagements and put off setting a date and getting married, including yourself. Do you think that it would be almost better, less pressure, if there wasn't a ring at the end of the show?

Ashley Chooses J.P. Against Her Sister's Recommendation

On The Bachelorette last night, Ashley accepted construction manager J.P. Rosenbaum's proposal despite a shaky start to the show's finale. Her sister, Chrystie Corns, told her in not-so-subtle terms that she didn't think Ashley and J.P. were a good match. Chrystie was honest about her reaction to seeing Ashley and J.P. together, saying she didn't think Ashley was being herself and that he didn't bring out her fun side, but Ashley followed her heart instead of her sister's rational opinion.

On one hand, I understand that your family knows you better than anyone else; on the other, a relationship is extremely personal, and it's ultimately between you and your significant other. At a viewing party of the show, two married gals said their parents made comments like "keep your options open" and "not my ideal son-in-law" when first meeting their future husbands, but the parents learned to love the guys over time. If it came down to your family's opinion versus the fella you're dating, who would you choose?

The Bachelorette Finale: Are You Happy With Ashley's Decision?

Ashley Hebert has made her pick! Last night's finale of The Bachelorette had Ashley choosing between Ben Flajnik, a winemaker from northern California, and J.P. Rosenbaum, a construction manager from NY. When faced with two proposals, Ashley went with J.P. even after her sister met both and clearly favored Ben.

In the big moment, Ben got on one knee and said to Ashley, "Every second I spend with you makes me fall deeper in love with you. I want to thank you for allowing me to feel completely and utterly vulnerable and open with you," but it wasn't enough to win her heart. When it was J.P.'s turn he told Ashley that she is the one before popping the question. She was quick to accept the proposal in the gorgeous Fiji setting. Of her now-fiancé, Ashley said, "Today is the reason why I went through all the good times and the bad times, and I've been wanting to tell you how much I loved you for so long now. You mean the world to me and I do not want to be with anyone else forever." So tell us - are you happy with Ashley's decision or do you wish she had gone with Ben?

What Would Persuade You to Take a Guy Back?

On last night's The Bachelorette, Ashley hosted a surprise guest in Fiji when Ryan returned for a second shot at love. Unlike when this has happened in other seasons of the show, Ryan didn't leave on his own accord and then return, he was booted off middate and then made the ballsy (and possibly producer-encouraged) decision to try one last time to make it with Ashley. With his puppy-dog eyes watering, Ryan used these tactics when first approaching Ashley:

He wasn't afraid to show his desperation.
He brought up their first meeting out of the limo, saying "there was something there."
He made a grand gesture by flying to Fiji.
He complimented her on her looks.
He didn't pressure her to make a decision right then.
He showed he'd changed by saying in the past he would have let it go.
His nervousness showed he was sincere.
He said she'd been on his mind nonstop since he'd been home.

Meeting the Parents Dos and Don'ts: Bachelorette Edition

Last night was the hometown dates on The Bachelorette, and Ashley met the families of the final four bachelors: Ames, Ben F., Constantine, and JP. And while none of the hometown dates were disastrous dealbreakers, there were some lessons to be learned. So take a cue from last night's episode with these dos and don'ts for the first time you and yours meet each other's families.

Learn the names and brief backgrounds beforehand. It doesn't have to be enough to write a biography on his fam, but it was helpful that both Constantine and JP prepped Ashley on who she was meeting (and how they are related) ahead of the meetups.
Start with an intimate group before going on to the extended family. Ashley was able to spend some quality time with Constantine's immediate family before the rest poured in for a dance-filled party, which allowed her to get to know the prime family members on a deeper level.
Lighten things up with old photos. On Ashley's date with Ben and with JP's families, old photos of the guys were brought out, which offered some comic relief in the midst of serious relationship-talk-filled dates. Just pay attention to your SO's mood - if he seems overly embarrassed and uncomfortable, then it's time to move on to something else.
Keep boundaries in mind. It's fun to chat with your BF's sister(s) and mom, but keep it from getting out of hand. Ashley had some good girl time with Ames's sister and mom, but when she told them things were going slower with Ames than with the other guys, they passed that info right along to Ames. It's probably not best to say confidential things about your relationship to his family until you've gotten to know them better.

Don't

Bring up hot-button topics like having children and getting married if the relationship is new. Constantine's dad threw in a "he's good with kids" comment soon after meeting Ashley, but luckily she handled it well by laughing it off instead of making it awkward.
Put too much pressure on your significant other prior to the meeting. Ben told Ashley that he's only introduced one woman to his mom, which kind of stressed her out - and rightfully so! He also said if it didn't go well with his family, things with her would be over. It's stressful enough meeting the family for the first time, so don't make it worse by adding ultimatums.
Let talk of past relationships dampen the mood. On Ashley's date with JP and his family, JP's ex was constantly being brought up. It's one thing for Ashley to understand where he's coming from and why he's so guarded, but it's another for the ex to drag down the conversation.
