We have to wait until next Summer to see some of our favorite comic book heroes align on the big screen for The Avengers, but at least we've got some new pictures from the film to hold us over. Get another peek at the film's familiar faces - that is, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.

The Super Bowl wouldn't be complete without some blockbuster movie trailers, and this year's big game came complete with a fresh look at The Avengers. This spot is short and sweet, mostly focusing on seeing the team assemble and prepare for epic battling. Though the first Avengers trailer is more satisfying and in-depth, this little teaser is keeping us excited for the film's Summer release. Plus, we get a much better look at The Hulk (who actually looks pretty similar to the big green guy we saw in the Ed Norton movie.)

Super-Hot Superhero Eye Candy

What's better than one super-hot (shirtless) superhero? A whole crop of them! We get a glimpse of the hottie overload to come in the first trailer for The Avengers, which includes the steamy Chris Evans as Captain America as well as Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man and a bulked-up Chris Hemsworth as Thor. I'm all for the super heroines, but in this flick sign me up for the damsel in distress role! To get in the superhero spirit and glean some Halloween inspiration for your honey, let's look at the most smoldering caped crusaders to grace the big screen with their big guns.

If you've seen Thor, Captain America, or either of the Iron Man movies, you have a pretty good idea of what you can expect from the first trailer for The Avengers, but that's a big part of the fun. The film calls together those three superheroes, along with Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). As expected, the group doesn't exactly mesh well when they're called to action by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), mostly because they've all got different personalities and temperament. Robert Downey Jr. is the center of attention (at least in this preview), with his snark providing the brunt of the comic relief. Still, the jokes are only made better by the reactions of arrogant Thor, nice-guy Captain America, and so on.

Though the actual premise of the story focuses on The Avengers trying to protect the world from Thor's villainous brother, Loki, it's clear that the real story here is the introduction of the group as a whole and the story of how they came together. I'm definitely looking forward to this one, if not just because I've grown to love many of these characters in their own right. The Avengers Aren't Just Superheroes, They're Cover Models

The cast of The Avengers - Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Chris Evans, and Mark Ruffalo - are all decked out in costume on the cover of this week's issue of Entertainment Weekly. Despite the fact that the cover looks a bit doctored (and Ruffalo appears to be doing his best "Blue Steel"), I'm always excited to get new glimpses of the upcoming superhero blockbuster. In the issue, the cast talks about what it was like making the film (surprise, surprise: RJD tried to hog the spotlight) while writer/director Joss Whedon discusses the pressure he felt when putting the pieces together. Here are highlights:

Downey on initially pushing Whedon for Iron Man to lead the charge: "I said, ‘I don’t know what you’re thinking, but Tony needs to drive this thing. He [Whedon] was like, ‘OK, let’s try that.’ We tried it, and it didn’t work. Because this is a different sort of thing. Everybody is just an arm of the octopus."
Evans on how shooting in New Mexico brought the cast together: "Any time you film somewhere where nobody is from, you’re forced to hang out together off set. No one knows anybody, no one has any prior obligations out here, no one has any dinner plans because we’re all alone."
Whedon on his experience as director: "Every day I make some boneheaded mistake. And I go, ‘Really? Wow. So no learning curve, huh?’ There is a weird element of: They handed me one of the biggest movies of all time, and I’m making it up as I go."

Robert Downey Jr. held hands with his pregnant wife, producer Susan Downey, on the set of The Avengers today in NYC. It was just a few days ago that the pair announced they are expecting their first child together; Robert also has a 17-year-old son, Indio, with his former wife Deborah Falconer. Susan joined RDJ at work with his cast of superheroes, including Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, and Jeremy Renner, as they shot new scenes at Bethesda Fountain in Central Park this afternoon. The Marvel production has filmed in several states over the Summer, and the cast has clearly built a camaraderie - today, they visibly cracked each other up during lulls in the action. Fans got a sneak peek at The Avengers last month during Disney's D23 expo, where we talked with RDJ and Scarlett backstage, and the crowd's response was overwhelmingly positive. Robert told us he was excited about the reaction to the early clips of the film, which hits theaters next May.

Scarlett Johansson and Robert Downey Jr. Give Fans a Sneak Peek at The Avengers

Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Cobie Smulders, and Jeremy Renner were among the stars of The Avengers who took the stage at today's D23 Expo in Anaheim. The actors gave fans at the Disney convention a first look at their highly anticipated production, which brings together some of Marvel's most beloved characters. The project, which is still shooting in Ohio, is slated to hit theaters in May of 2012. In fact, Mark Ruffalo and Chris Evans weren't able to join the rest of the onscreen superheroes at the event because they are still tied up on the set of the film. The studio previewed some early clips from The Avengers, including a showdown between Tony Stark and Loki - played by Tom Hiddleston - and another that showed Mark in action as The Hulk. Scarlett, who is still rocking the same red hair as her character, Black Widow, wore a bright coral minidress and patent pumps to help intro the movie. It was one of several upcoming releases hyped at D23 today, but The Avengers definitely drew the strongest fan reaction, with Robert Downey Jr. eliciting a standing ovation from the arena the moment he stepped onto the stage. Robert, who missed the first showing of the preview clip, even asked that they play it a second time so he and the crowd could enjoy it together!
