The Results Are In: Recast The Partridge Family

Every other Wednesday on BuzzSugar, I post a Recast challenge, where I ask you to choose new actors for a classic TV show or movie. The reader who submits the best cast wins a BuzzSugar T-shirt!

Recasting The Partridge Family is no easy task. There are so many archetypes to think about, including the likable mom and the teen heartthrob son! I really like Jinx's idea for Chace Crawford to play Keith because he has "swoon" written all over him. I wonder if Chace can sing? I also thought NurseDeAnna had the right idea with Kristen Davis to play Shirley as well as Joe Jonas for Keith. Those two make an adorable mother-son match-up.

As for the other kids mommapoppins had a great idea to cast Emma Roberts as Laurie and it's hard to go wrong with Amethyst's suggestion for Abigail Breslin to play young Tracy.

Ultimately it was the recast with the most perfect idea for Shirley along with a pretty spot-on Keith and Laurie that I chose as the winner. Congratulations alynn!

Recast The Partridge Family and Win a Prize!

Every other Wednesday on BuzzSugar, I post a Recast challenge, where I ask you to choose new actors for a classic TV show or movie. The reader who submits the best cast wins a BuzzSugar t-shirt!

Why The Partridge Family? Because they're doing it anyway so we may as well put our own casting suggestions out there. Even though many of us might not remember the show, the characters are pretty typical, so let's update this family that sings together for a new generation. Did you know that back in the day this show ran as part of ABC's Friday night lineup following The Brady Bunch? I just thought that was interesting.

Who would you cast as the widowed head of the family, Shirley Partridge? What about the family heartthrob, Keith Partridge, originally portrayed by David Cassidy? There's also precocious little brother Danny Partridge, played by a then-tiny Danny Bonaduce, and pretty teenage daughter Laurie Partridge. Finally, there are the littlest Partridges to recast: Tracy and Chris. Oh, and we might as well give Shirley another adult and recast the band manager, Reuben Kincaid.

C'mon, Get Happy? NBC Lands Partridge Family Remake

Want to know what NBC Entertainment boss Ben Silverman's childhood was like? Just check out his network's lineup. NBC has already tried out remakes of American Gladiators and Knight Rider, and now it's landed itself a new version of The Partridge Family.

Oddly, the people behind the project say they don't want to get too caught up in nostalgia. Writer Jeff Rake told the Hollywood Reporter that he wants to "turn the premise on its head":

"In the original, the kids actually recruited their mom to front the band, which I can't see happening in any family on this planet," he said. "The new version will reflect what seems to me to be the more realistic family band scenario these days: a struggling, sort of well-meaning mom pimping her kids in order to create a wholesome-slash-sexy cash cow."

"Wholesome-slash-sexy cash cow"? Sounds right up Silverman's alley. There's just one small problem, though: Not too many of his remakes seem to be working. Do you think there's any hope for a modern spin on The Partridge Family? Or is this yet another cultural touchstone that should just be left alone?
