Buzz In: What TV Shows Have the Best Music?

Earlier this week, I mentioned Alexandra Patsavas. (She's the music supervisor from <a href="http://buzzsugar.com/tags/gossip+girl" href=http://buzzsugar.com/tags/grey's+anatomy">Grey's Anatomy, Gossip Girl, and The O.C., and she also worked on the New Moon soundtrack.) She's one of the best in the biz at picking out the perfect song - thanks to her, I still think of that scene on The O.C. when Marissa shoots Trey whenever I hear Imogen Heap's "Hide and Seek."

Bringing up Patsavas got me thinking about all the great music on TV. I admittedly own a Grey's soundtrack - OK, or two - and I'm always jotting down the names of the artists at the bottom ticker when I'm watching The Hills or The City. It's a great way to find little gems to download that might not pass my radar otherwise. So, I'd like to the pose this question to you: What TV show do you think has the best tunes?

(P.S. If you're a music lover, you might want to think about adding yourself to the Music Review Group in BuzzSugar Community!)

OMFG! A Gossip Girl Soundtrack: Duh

My question is: What took them so long? I kid, but honestly, you knew a Gossip Girl soundtrack had to be coming because a) that's what good teen dramas do, and b) the show is as good at music as it is at one-liners.

So, the first Gossip Girl soundtrack has been compiled by The O.C.'s former music supervisor, Alexandra Patsavas (you know how I feel about her). OMFGG - Original Music Featured on Gossip Girl No. 1's 13 tracks will hit record store shelves near you on Oct. 28, and the album's also available online right now. It's generally a pretty good overview of the show's music, though it doesn't have the memorable "U.R.A. Fever," the song that's playing when Serena admits to murder.

The good folks of GG are also launching an entire site devoted to music on the show. I'm pretty excited for that site myself, because I rarely watch an episode without doing some searching for lyrics I heard.

Are you on your way to download the soundtrack? Are you excited for the new music site? I've got the track list after the jump - and super bonus Buzz respect and admiration goes to anyone who can figure out which song was played in which OMG moment last season. To check it out, just read more.

The Kills – “Sour Cherry”

The Kooks – "Do You Wanna"

Phantom Planet – “Do the Panic”

The Teenagers – “Feeling Better”

The Virgins – “One Week of Danger (Demo Version)”

Nadia Oh – “Got Your Number”

Crystal Castles – “Crimewave”

The Republic Tigers – “Fight Song”

Junkie XL – “Cities in Dust”

The Ting Tings – “We Started Nothing”

Oppenheimer – “Breakfast in NYC”

The Pierces – “Three Wishes”

Albert Hammond Jr. – “Hard to Live in the City”

The Highlight Reel 12/22: The Week's Best and Worst TV

Every Friday, we round up the week's best, funniest, strangest, and most embarrassing moments in television for your amusement.

If you missed the "Rock and Awe: Countdown to Guitarmageddon" challenge on Thursday's "Colbert Report," in which Stephen Colbert challenged Decemberists guitarist Chris Funk to a battle for the ages, you're in luck: Check out these <a href=http://www.comedycentral.com/motherload/player.jhtml?ml_video=79988&ml_collection=&ml_gateway=&ml_gateway_id=&ml_comedian=&ml_runtime=&ml_context=show&ml_origin_url=%2Fmotherload%2Fmini_player.jhtml%3Fstart_open%3Dtrue%26ml_xml%3D%252Fmotherload%252Fxml%252Fdata_mini.jhtml%253Fxml_id%253D24445&ml_playlist=&lnk=&is_large=true">video clips of the entire episode. A few can't-miss moments:

Colbert tears off his suit sleeves to make a slightly more rockin' vest.

Henry Kissinger (!) starts the contest with these words: "Stephen, it is time to rock."

Aging rocker Peter Frampton takes over for Colbert after he tragically "cuts" his hand.

The episode almost deserves an entire Highlight Reel of its own.

"Some of the things Borat said would probably have hurt me, too, if I wasn't so white and awesome." - comedian Doug Benson on VH1's "Best Year Ever" special

How many different ways can Penn Jillette say his new catchphrase, "Is that your identity?" A whole lot, if this week's "Identity" blitz was any indication.

"Is that your i-DEN-tity?"
"Is! That! Your! I! Den! Ti! Ty!"
"Is THAT (pause, pause, pause) your identity?"

I never thought I'd say it, but I almost miss "is that your final answer?"

You can see the rest of the highlights (and lowlights) if you read more

If the rendition of "O Holy Night" by New Orleans musicians on last week's "Studio 60" made you teary-eyed, now you can download it from the show's official site. Or listen here.

You'd think after 38 days on a remote island, even the weakest "Survivor" contestant could start a fire from scratch. But during Sunday's finale, two members of the top four couldn't quite get it done. After more than an hour without a spark - and with the eliminated contestants yawning in the jury box - host Jeff Probst announces: "Stop right where you're at. We're gonna go to matches." It's truly painful to watch:

Still chuckling over "Dick in a Box"? Now you can get the T-shirt.

"Identity" started to bore me by the end of the week, but Tuesday night's contestant, the extraordinarily excitable Robert Talon, kept me riveted for the whole hour. Maybe it was, oh I don't know, the way he kept leaping into Penn Jillette's arms!? You can watch Robert's entire episode online; for the serious leaping action, start at Part Four.

On Thursday night's episode of "The O.C." Julie complains to Spencer that his guys were running up high pizza bills. Spencer's response: "We're running a male prostitution ring, Julie. Pizza's the cost of business."

The O.C. Recap: Episode 8, "The Earth Girls Are Easy"

It's tough running a male prostitution ring when your business partner still thinks it's merely a dating service. That's where we find Julie in Episode 8 of "The O.C.," when both Kirsten and Bullitt offer to help her keep the books. Feeling in over her head, she and Bullitt's son, Spencer, come up with another solution: They'll burn the evidence and extract themselves from the whoring business once and for all. That is, after they clean up from their New Year's bookings.

Meanwhile, Seth is in the kitchen with Sandy, mulling over a problem of his own: He has made absolutely no plans for New Year's, and Summer isn't happy about it. So, he just decides to tag along with Ryan, who's planning to surprise Taylor with a trip to Las Vegas.

Lots more, including spoilers, so if you dare, read more

At home, Taylor is packing for her Vegas trip, and suddenly her eyes dart nervously from a box of tampons to her calendar. Could she be late? No, it's just the ever-nosy Taylor remembering when Summer's last period was. Summer admits there might have been an unprotected night with Seth, and the two decide to bring a pregnancy test along on the trip.

In the car, Taylor is acting weird, so when Seth spots the test, he assumes it's Taylor's. They stop for gas, and Seth asks Ryan if he's sure that he hasn't slept with Taylor. Of course, Seth answers, so when he hears about the test, he assumes Taylor must be sleeping around. Meanwhile, the girls overtake an innocent gas-station bathroom with some serious Newport Beach melodrama. When a hyperventilating Summer can't stand to look at the results, Taylor tosses the test in her purse, only to have the bag stolen by a young woman dressed like an alien.

Soon, a moderate-speed chase ensues, and the boys are in hot pursuit of what they think is Taylor's pregnancy test. The foursome ultimately ends up at a rave where-OMG!-everyone is dressed like an alien, which makes the purse-snatching martian very tough to locate. Taylor is upset that Ryan thinks she slept around, so she wanders off. Later, Ryan is upset to find Taylor drinking, to which she snaps: "Why? Because I might be pregnant with my whore baby?" Finally, Summer reveals the truth to Seth: that the test was actually hers. The girls get in the car to drive home and the boys hitch a ride with some ravers.

Meanwhile, back at Bullitt's New Year's Eve party, Kaitlin finds a new father figure in the Texan. Bullitt has hired a guy named Frank (yes, that is Kevin Sorbo of TV's "Hercules") to put Julie's books in order. Frank approaches Julie at the bash and seems puzzled that she's still calling NewMatch a dating service. He tells her that if she wants him to keep quiet, she should come up to his hotel room later. She does, but he just wants to talk. Seems that Frank has some demons in his past, and Sandy thinks he looks vexingly familiar. As Julie and Frank chat, we see Sandy pulling up files on him, and then, Frank tells Julie who he really is: Ryan's real father. Whoa.

And that's not the only juicy shocker in this episode. When the foursome returns to Newport Beach, Taylor invites Ryan into her bed for "everything but," while Seth and Summer deliberate over the pregnancy test. Before they can look at the results, Seth proposes to Summer with an eyeball ring he took from one of the ravers. She hesitantly says yes; after all, it's highly probable that she's pregnant. But lo and behold, the test is negative, and suddenly that whole proposal thing is left hanging awkwardly in the air.

Tune in to see what happens next when "The O.C." returns Jan. 4!

What Did You Think of This Week's "The O.C."?

The networks have been been inundated with reruns this week, so it was refreshing to find Fox airing a new episode of "The O.C." On Thursday's New Year's show, Ryan is surprising Taylor with a trip to Las Vegas when Seth invites himself and Summer tag along; meanwhile, Julie's losing control of her top-secret male escort service.

I'll post a full recap on Friday, but for now, let's discuss: What did you think of the holiday episode?

The O.C. Recap: Episode 7, "Chrismukk-huh?"

Last night's highly entertaining holiday episode of "The O.C." was rooted in fantasy, but it still advanced a few plot lines that will come into play later this season: namely, Ryan's relationship with Taylor and the town's process of coping with the death of Marissa Cooper.

As this episode begins, Kirsten is urging Ryan to invite Taylor over for Christmas Eve, but he's hesistant, since that might make her his girlfriend. "It's Chrismukkah," Kirsten reminds him. "We make our own rules."

Meanwhile, Kaitlin is whining that she has to accompany her mother to Christmas dinner in "the ghetto" (a.k.a., Riverside), while Taylor's mother has sent her a mass email saying she'll be in Cabo for the holidays. Soon, Taylor's traipsing over to Ryan's to invite herself to Chrismukkah, but her timing isn't great. Ryan has just discovered a long-lost letter from Marissa, which he has yet to open.

Ryan attempts to escape from Taylor by climbing a ladder to the roof to hang some Christmas decorations, and the next thing we know, the two have tumbled to the ground. Thankfully, they are okay, but a peeved Taylor dusts herself off and leaves. Ryan, meanwhile, wanders into the Cohens' house and realizes that perhaps things aren't okay after all, so read more

Ryan first realizes that something's up when Kirsten, who is planning a party, mistakes him for a member of the catering staff. He heads over to the mall, where he happens on Julie making a public appearance to raise money for homelessness; she assumes that Ryan is just another street urchin. Panicked, he locates Seth, who is being harassed by a pair of comic-store nerds joking that "his girlfriend" is across the street. When Ryan sees that they're talking about Summer, who is trying on a wedding dress, he assumes that Seth and Summer are engaged.

Looking for some sanity, Ryan tracks down Sandy Cohen, who is now serving as mayor of Newport Beach. When Ryan tries to explain what's going on, Sandy look at him like he's crazy: “I see that you’re having some trouble and I sympathize with that. But stalking me and my family is not the answer.”

Thankfully, the next person Ryan runs into is Taylor, who knows exactly who he is because they are existing in the same alternative universe, which is a bit tense since Ryan doesn't want to date her. Taylor figures they must be there because someone is in trouble, and right then, Summer appears, decked out in velour Juicy sweats and lots of bling. Taylor realizes she's become "a mindless bimbo" who plans to marry Che, who in this universe is an obnoxious frat-boy named Chester. In this radically different role, Bilson is actually hilarious and, throughout the episode, gets handed some of the best lines.

Taylor and Ryan split up to make separate discoveries about the new Newport Beach. Taylor learns that Mayor Sandy Cohen is married to Julie, who is having a very kinky affair with Che/Chester, and that Marissa is alive and arriving at the airport at 3 p.m. Ryan discovers that Julie is married to Jimmy. Back in reality, the denizens of Newport hear that Taylor and Ryan are both in comas, but they are fine and will wake up when they are ready. ("So it's a coma-light?" asks Kaitlin.) Kirsten finds the letter from Marissa and realizes why Ryan isn't ready to return to the real world.

Back in alt-world, Ryan goes to the airport to find Marissa, only to realize that the "Miss Cooper" who's returning from Berkeley is actually Kaitlin. She's a prodigy who went to college early, but she says Marissa died three years ago after OD'ing in a Tijuana ally. Ryan is despondent, but Taylor reminds him: “Ryan, you gave her three more years. She got to fall in love. She got to graduate.” Furthermore, she points out, he saved the Cohens from themselves.

Now, they just have to fix things, so Taylor and Ryan head to Kirsten's party and engage in a series of hijinks to fix Seth up with Summer and get the Cohens back together. Ryan explains the whole alternate-universe thing to Seth, who understands perfectly, while Ryan and Taylor conspire to get Che and Julie together for a bathroom tryst so they can get Sandy and Kirsten reminiscing about old times.

In the midst of all this, Taylor stumbles upon her mom and her alternative-universe self: "In alt world, I’m a boy! And my mom is still a bitch." When she overhears her mom chastising the boy for being fat, she decides to stand up to her once and for all. Apparently, that's the issue she needed to face before coming out of her coma, and soon she is back in the Newport Beach hospital room.

Meanwhile, Jimmy catches Julie and Che getting it on in the bathroom, and both Sandy and Summer learn of their partners' infidelity. Soon, everyone else is starting to get very suspicious about the what Ryan is up to. As the bimbo Summer asks, “Who is this random guy we’re all listening to, and why am I not drunk yet?”

Ryan explains to them that really Sandy and Kirsten should be together, Sandy should be fighting for the little guy, and Summer should date Seth. Everyone is pretty confused but seems to think this random guy has a point. Unfortunately, his antics get him tossed in jail, from which Sandy bails him out. Ryan asks Sandy what happened to all of you, and Sandy says that when Marissa Cooper died, “It was like everybody got stuck.”

After that that, we see alt-world Ryan read the letter, causing real-world Ryan to wake up. The gist of the letter, written to Ryan the day Marissa left, is that she had to leave Newport because it was the only way they could get on with their lives. When Ryan wakes up, the first person he sees is Taylor. Neither can remember what happened, but both remember having strange dreams with the other person in them. “I’m really glad you’re here,” Ryan says to Taylor.

The O.C. Recap: Episode 6, "The Summer Bummer"

With all of the sordid stuff that's befallen the kids of "The O.C.", Summer getting kicked out of Brown for liberating bunny rabbits just doesn't seem scandalous enough. In fact, for the plodding first half hour of last night's episode, I began to feel like I was being subjected to a very dull date arranged by Kirsten's and Julie's new matchmaking business. We see Summer looking exasperated, Summer talking on the phone to Seth, and Summer and Seth attempting to surprise one another with impromptu visits. Meanwhile, Kirsten tells Ryan that she'd like to "audition for the role of Seth," an offer he hesitantly accepts by telling her that he kissed Taylor and can't stop thinking about her.

If that sounds like a recipe for boredom, well, that's because it was. Thank goodness for Kaitlin Cooper, who you can always count on to spark up a little bit of trouble: In this case, she's attempting to foil the popular girl's pimp-and-ho-themed Sweet 16 party. For more of the hijinks, read more

Soon, Ryan gets weirded out by his crush on Taylor-not to mention the hokey dream sequences he has to endure-so Taylor succeeds at making him jealous by bonding with a fellow comic-book nerd named Roger. Back at the dating agency, Julie Cooper rebuffs the advances of Bullitt, the fast-talking oil tycoon who's investing in New Match, but she can't help but appreciate the army of hot young male clients that Bullitt has sent her way.

Meanwhile, Julie's daughter Kaitlin throws a party and invites the girls who didn't get invited to the Sweet 16. The incoming kegs cause quite a stir with Summer, who finds herself handcuffed to Che, who is there to make amends and apparently thinks that handcuffs are the key to redemption. Taylor bops around asking people to play Pictionary, while Summer drags Che past a couple making out, shouting "Hey, cut it out! I tan on that chair!"

With that classically O.C. quip, things finally start to get interesting. Kaitlin finds herself playing seven minutes in heaven with Sweet 16 girl's boyfriend, who Kaitlin decides is gay. Turns out she's right, because moments later, Ryan finds him frolicking in the bed with Roger, Taylor's comic book guy, who says he pretended to like Taylor in exchange for an action figure. Her retort: "What if I did rent a homosexual for the evening? And pay him with rare collectibles from Asian cinema?"

Later, Seth pushes Che (and Summer) into the pool, and we learn that Che is really a socialite named Winchester. Then, the girl hosting the pimps and ho's party shows up to confront Kaitlin:

Ho girl: "No one came to my party."
Kaitlin: "So you dressed like a ho for no reason."
Ho girl: "I changed before I got here."

How can you not love Kaitlin?! And speaking of ho's, turns out Julie got more than she bargained for when she decided to set her client's up with Bullitt's army of hot young men, who are under the mistaken impression that they are employed as male escorts. But while Julie protests at first, her female clients don't seem to mind. Will Julie be the one having pimps and ho's parties now? To find out, tune in to Fox next Thursday at 9/8 C.

Could Rachel Bilson Be HIMYM's Mother?!

How I Met Your Mother has given us a fair share of teases in the past (Ted's engagement to Stella, his wedding dream in this week's episode), but this one may take the cake. The adorable Rachel Bilson is set to to make an appearance in the show's upcoming 100th episode, and apparently it may be more than a cameo.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the 100th episode will play a vital (legendary, if you will) role in Ted's meeting of his future wife. Apparently the execs really wanted to take their time to choose the right actress for the episode.

Sadly we won't get to see the episode until January, which means we've got at least three long months to speculate. I've loved Bilson since her days on The O.C., and she quite possibly could make a perfect match for Ted. Would you be excited about Bilson, or did you always envision someone else as "the mother"?

Pattinson and Jackman and Weisz? Oh, My

Robert Pattinson, Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz starring together in a movie? That's hot.

The period drama is titled Unbound Captives and follows a woman (to be played by Weisz) "whose husband is killed and her two children kidnapped by a Comanche war party in 1859. She is rescued by a frontiersman, to be played by Jackman. Pattinson will play the son." First-time director Madeleine Stowe will be working with her own screenplay which she wrote, under the pseudonym O.C. Humphrey, with her husband. She'd originally planned on starring in the lead role herself, but ultimately decided to direct. She says she saw three actresses and just knew that Weisz would be good for the role. Interestingly, Robert Pattinson agreed to be in the film last Fall, "before everything broke with Twilight."

There's no question that Pattinson and Jackman are hot actors - in that they're attractive (Pattinson even has his own sexy faceoff game over on Pop) and rather popular right now. And I've always thought that Rachel Weisz is one of the most beautiful actresses of our time (just my humble opinion), so, just like I'm going to see The Brothers Bloom in which she stars with other cuties (Mark Ruffalo and Adrien Brody), I'll probably see this movie no matter what.

Source
