We still have to wait until April 8 for The Breeders' new album Mountain Battles to be released, but we've already gotten a taste of one of the tracks, "We're Gonna Rise." Now there's another song from the album online, "Bang On," and it's worth checking out.
Totally pared down to a steady drumbeat and sparse lyrics, it's not a super complex track, but it's enjoyable nonetheless.

While the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival has become a giant, crowded experience that has gone increasingly Hollywood over the years, the festival still continues to book some pretty excellent bands. At first glance, this year's lineup, announced Monday at a press conference in Mexico City, has some folks feeling underwhelmed. Still, there's enough good stuff planned for the three days of fun in the Southern California desert that music fans like myself will still want to get busy mapping out the bands they want to see from April 25 to 27.

It's been 14 years since The Breeders released Last Splash, one of the seminal albums of my youth, and more than 15 years since The Pixies first disbanded. But bassist and belter Kim Deal remains one of the coolest chicks in rock. Her intoxicating warble on "Do You Love Me Now?"
