Congrats to Claire Danes for another statue win! Just like 2011 award season fave Natalie Portman, Ms. Danes has been working in the movie biz since she was a youngster. But unlike the bride/mama-to-be, Claire's résumé lists a plethora of indie flicks and unusual characters, which is going to make guessing her characters' job titles all the harder. Claire Danes Talks Winning a SAG and Idolizing Meryl Streep

Claire Danes is a bona fide award season darling; she won the outstanding actress in a miniseries SAG tonight for her role in Temple Grandin. After winning the Emmy and the Golden Globe for the film as well, she joked about the SAG feeling "excessive," but she also had lots of compliments for the woman she portrayed onscreen.

On getting yet another award for Temple Grandin: [joking] "It does feel excessive at this point! No, no. This is a really extraordinary role, one that I'm not going to find again any time soon; a role of this complexity and depth. It was really intimidating. There were so many ways to get it wrong. But I found her so compelling and so inspiring that I just couldn't not take the risk."
On being impressed with Grandin's life: "I think autism is more prevalent than anyone knew; so it's really important that we know what it is and how it works, and how to work with it. Temple was hugely instrumental in allowing that to happen. All of this attention for my work is wonderful, but I can't help but defer to her. She lived it, I played it. There's a difference."
On the misconceptions of autism that she discovered from playing Grandin: "Most people assume that autistic people are not capable of empathy, and I cannot think of a more empathic person than Temple Grandin. She has dedicated her life to represented those who are misrepresented."
On Grandin's support of her: "She was so open and so supportive and validating from the word go. I was so grateful for that. . . she's so generous and so sincere. Her authenticity is so disarming and so wonderful. She's my biggest cheerleader. And obviously, it's reciprocal."
On which actors inspire her: "Meryl. You know, what are you gonna do? Meryl. I remember seeing Sophie's Choice when I was 9 or 10 - I was probably too young to be watching it, my parents are very liberal - that was revelatory for me. [It was] when I first learned that acting could be important."

Claire Danes Transitions From Emmy Winner to Homeland Star

Claire Danes strikes a bold pose for the latest issue of Emmy Magazine, the official publication of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, which hits newsstands Sept. 13. Claire went on a winning streak during last year's awards season that began with her outstanding lead actress in a miniseries Emmy win for her role in Temple Grandin. She went on to earn a Golden Globe and SAG statue for her performance. Claire's now tackling a new cable project, playing a CIA officer in Showtime's series Homeland. Claire shares with the magazine about portraying a covert agent, kissing Jared Leto on My So-Called Life, and her childhood acting dreams. Here's more:

Claire on her childhood ambitions: "I wanted to be on stage. Then I discovered that actors typically don't make much money, so I decided I'd be a therapist and live in the suburbs next door to my best friend."
Claire on preparing to kiss her My So-Called Life costar Jared Leto: "Kiss his face? How do I kiss his face?"
Claire comparing CIA officers to actors: "I'm speaking in an assuming way, but the CIA, they do play roles all the time. And they do have to forge intimacy easily with strangers. And they are con men. And, you know, they actually create characters. But that's kind of where the comparisons end. The work they do is for real and the work we do is in fantasy."

Announcing the 2010 Emmy Winners!

This year's Emmys have come to a close, and I'm still surprised by some of the unexpected winners. The voters gave lots of love to new shows, with Modern Family winning the big award for outstanding comedy series (and a win for Eric Stonestreet!). It was also a night for repeat honorees, with the cast of Mad Men and Bryan Cranston both taking the stage for a third time.

Jimmy Fallon kicked things off with a fun musical number (watch it again here), and the night had several laugh-out-loud moments (George Clooney's Modern Family video cameo was a personal fave). I was in the press room throughout the night, so don't forget to check out what the stars had to say about winning, along with our Emmys coverage from across the Sugar network.
