Battleship: Needs a Lifesaver

I don't remember aliens making an appearance in my own childhood sessions with Battleship, but I suppose when you try to make a toy into a feature-length film, you're afforded a few liberties. Unfortunately, the producers of Battleship may have spent too much time finding creative ways to explode things and not enough time on a plot, ending up with underutilized actors, in a wishy-washy destruction story.

Battleship starts out in 2005, when the US establishes the Beacon Project, an effort to reach out to potential life forms on a planet that has a similar climate as the Earth. The government sets up a powerful signal on Hawaii capable of sending transmissions to the foreign territory. Little do they know the frequencies are being received, and not by friendly folks. Enter brothers Alex (Taylor Kitsch) and Stone (Alexander Skarsgard). Stone is clean-cut and responsible while Alex is generally a mess. We first meet them in a bar scene that turns to Alex breaking into a convenience store to steal a chicken burrito for his future girlfriend, Sam (Brooklyn Decker). Thanks to Kitsch's surprising physical comedy skills, the scene is the highlight of the movie. It all goes to the aliens after that.

Brooklyn, Rihanna, and Alexander Team Up to Premiere Battleship

Brooklyn Decker, Rihanna, and Alexander Skarsgard hit the blue carpet in LA last night for the West Coast premiere of Battleship. The ladies headed west after a big start to the week in NYC, where they both attended Monday's Met Gala. Brooklyn wore Tory Burch to the Big Apple fashion fest, while Rihanna donned a crocodile-print Tom Ford.

Battleship isn't out until next Friday, but the gang have been all over the world doing press for the last month. Brooklyn, Alexander, and costar Taylor Kitsch brought the picture to Europe, then Rihanna linked up for a quick tour of Asia and a stop in Hawaii for the junket. Brooklyn's doing double-duty, too, since her What to Expect When You're Expecting comes out the same day as her movie with Alexander and Rihanna!

Taylor Kitsch takes the helm of this month's Battleship as a rookie Navy officer who finds himself charged with saving the world after aliens attack. We caught up with the actor at a recent press day for the action-packed adventure, where we chatted about his relationship with director Peter Berg and his adopted hometown of Austin. Taylor decided to put down roots in Texas after shooting FNL and said he especially loves that people there "don't give a sh*t" about fame or Hollywood. During our chat, we also asked Taylor if he's made any grand gestures for love, given that his character gets tasered and arrested in the process of tracking down a late-night burrito for the object of his affection. Rihanna Is All Smiles For Battleship, and a Sexy Dance Machine in Her Hot New Video

Rihanna joined her Battleship costars Alexander Skarsgard, Taylor Kitsch, and Brooklyn Decker, as well as director Peter Berg, at Friday's photocall for the film. The stars returned to Hawaii, where they shot the movie last Summer, for the US press junket. They posed in front of Pearl Harbor's USS Missouri Memorial with naval vet Gregory D. Gadson - stay tuned for our exclusive interviews with the cast!

Rihanna flashed her midriff for the photo op. She also shows skin in her new video, which is out today. "Where Have You Been" is already a hit on the charts, and with Rihanna in a bikini, the video is sure to be just as popular. Rihanna, Brooklyn, Alexander, and Taylor head back to the mainland next week and are expected to attend an LA premiere on May 10 before the May 18 opening.

CinemaCon wrapped up with its star-studded Big Screen Achievement Awards ceremony at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas last night. Jennifer Garner wore a tight black dress to show off her postbaby body while accepting the female star of the year award in her second appearance of the week. Jennifer joined Johnny Depp for an event on Tuesday evening, though that time she choose a looser-fitting look. On stage, Jennifer joked about winning this award, saying:

"I told my mom the other day I was getting this award . . . and I was excited and feeling proud and thought she was going to be proud, and then there was this pause on the other end of the line. She said, 'Jennifer, do these people know you haven't worked in the last year?' I said, 'Yeah, I feel they probably know what I've been up to. I haven't stepped foot on a set. You are correct, mom.' She said, 'Can they take this back? Because every time I talk to you, you are breastfeeding, you are running carpool, you are on the library committee - you are not acting!' I said it's not all about the now, it's things you've done in the past or in the future, and she was like, 'Honey, you have a weird job.'"

Charlize Theron was also honored yesterday evening, after joining Kristen Stewart to promote Snow White and the Huntsman at the convention earlier in the day. Michelle Pfeiffer looked stunning in her own LBD to receive the cinema icon statue. Jeremy Renner and The Hunger Games' Josh Hutcherson took home male star of the year and breakthrough star of the year, respectively.

CinemaCon has been going on since Monday and given press and movie theater owners sneak peeks at highly-anticipated upcoming movies like Snow White and the Huntsman and Battleship. The convention even brought out the first 60 seconds of the new adaptation of Les Misérables, which is apparently already earning very early award-season buzz.

Kristen Stewart sported a short Cushnie et Ochs dress to hit the stage at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Thursday. She was joined by her Snow White and the Huntsman costar Charlize Theron, who was in a similar black and white getup. The twosome are kicking off promotion for their movie ahead of its June 1 release and they will soon be bringing it overseas to London, where one lucky PopSugar winner will get to meet Kristen in person for our latest I'm a Huge Fan! The gorgeous twosome, Kristen and Charlize, are both early front-runners in the 2012 PopSugar 100. We revealed the PopSugar 100 top 10 at the end of the second day of voting, but there's a long way to go before we announce the final list in June. Just in time for this big moment, we also got brand-new Breaking Dawn Part 2 pictures showing vampire Bella alongside Edward Cullen.

Yesterday's CinemaCon festivities also brought out Battleship castmembers Taylor Kitsch and Brooklyn Decker, as well as Mila Kunis, John Travolta, Salma Hayek, Jeremy Renner, and more. It's the last night of the weeklong Vegas event, which also brought us Jennifer Garner's first postbaby red carpet.

Brooklyn and Rihanna Premiere Battleship Down Under

Rihanna wore a Stella McCartney jumpsuit for today's premiere of Battleship in Sydney. She was joined on the red carpet by leading man Taylor Kitsch, as well as costar Brooklyn Decker. Brooklyn Decker's style has been on great display so far during her action movie press tour, and today's gold lamé-sleeved J. Mendel gown didn't disappoint. Brooklyn looked refreshed after a fun weekend with two girlfriends. She had a visit from pals Chrissy Teigen and Erin Andrews, and the trio spent the Easter holiday together sightseeing, lounging in bikinis, and fitting in workouts. The girls even shared a scenic boat tour with Rihanna yesterday. Today, though, was all about business for Rihanna and Brooklyn, who spent the afternoon doing phone interviews.

Savages Trailer: Blake Lively in a Tale of Two Drug Dealers

Blake Lively is no stranger to juggling multiple men as Serena van der Woodsen on Gossip Girl, so it's not much of a stretch to see her with two lovers in Savages. In the Oliver Stone film, Lively plays O, a woman who's romantically involved with a pair of big-time pot dealers (Aaron Johnson and Taylor Kitsch), who also happen to be best friends. The love triangle gets even more complicated when the guys refuse to go into business with a Mexican drug cartel, and O is kidnapped in an attempt to change their minds.

The trailer for the film is dark, gritty, and sexy: Johnson is the brains of the operation while Kitsch is the brawn, and there's no shortage of gratuitous violence, as they get deeper into trouble. There's also plenty of star power in the supporting cast here, including John Travolta, Salma Hayek, and Benicio del Toro. The film hits theaters this Summer, but see the trailer when you

Brooklyn Decker Wears See-Through Black Lace For Battleship

Brooklyn Decker hit the red carpet this evening at the Seoul premiere of Battleship. Brooklyn, decked out in a black lace dress from femme d’armes, was joined by her leading man Taylor Kitsch and director Peter Berg. Both Taylor and Brooklyn were recently in Japan, where they linked up with castmates Rihanna and Alexander Skarsgard for other press events. So far, Brooklyn Decker's red-carpet style has been catching attention on her current promotional tour. Many of the stops so far have been affiliated with military bases, owing to the plot of the action film. Brooklyn thanked service people for going out for the premiere. She wrote on Twitter that the "Seoul premiere was unbelievable. To the Korean and US Navy who came out, we were overwhelmed by the support! Truly, thank you."

Rihanna, Brooklyn, Alexander, and Taylor Set Their Sights on Tokyo

Rihanna, dressed in blue and gold Pucci, joined her Battleship costars Brooklyn Decker, Alexander Skarsgard, and Taylor Kitsch today at the film's world premiere in Tokyo. Rihanna debuted her darker hair color yesterday at a press conference aboard the USS George Washington in Yokosuka. The stars were whisked back to Japan's capital via helicopter following the press event. Rihanna and Brooklyn tweeted photos and shared their bird's eye view over the city before turning in for the night. The press tour continues for the cast before heading back to the States prior to the film's May 18 opening.

This is Rihanna's first major film role, and it seems she's already eyeing another part. Rihanna's interested in playing Whitney Houston if the right opportunity should come her way. She said, "That's a huge, huge role and whoever does it has to do a good job."
