TV Tonight: Jerseylicious

New Jersey is so hot right now - for TV, anyway. First, the Real Housewives of New Jersey blew the nation's collective minds with their table-flipping suburban antics, and then MTV really rocked the pop culture boat with the phenomenon of Jersey Shore.

Capitalizing on the Garden State fascination is Jerseylicious, the Style Network's new reality show based in a salon in Green Brook, N.J., which premieres tonight. All the action comes from the stylists who work at the Gatsby salon, a mecca for the stereotypical Jersey look: "big hair, long nails, real tan," as one character says. These ladies are a little younger than the ones on RHNJ, a tad more mature than the gang on Jersey Shore, but no less entertaining, if the clip after the break is any indication. Get acquainted with the bronzed beauties and decide if they're your new addiction when you read more.

Is Glee Headed Toward a Burnout?

It seems like we can't go a week without at least one piece of Glee-related news. So much so that it's hard to believe that the cast is even "technically" on hiatus! Let's recap: along with a recent stop at Paleyfest, they have an Oprah appearance on the books and a mini-tour lined up. Oh yeah, and the show returns next month. Aren't these kids tired enough already?! Now this morning comes word that the series is in talks for a musical stage adaptation, too.

Now, I'm a Gleek through and through, but I'm starting to fear overkill. I'd hate to see my beloved show hit a fever pitch only to actually lose fans to burnout. It just seems that it's going to be hard to keep up with this precedence of hype - and I would imagine that the actors themselves need a break, too.

Do You Agree With This Week's Project Runway Winner and Loser?

Project Runway gave the designers one of my favorite challenges ever: use inspiration from a New York City neighborhood. Even though I normally dislike team challenges, the pairings and results made for a super interesting episode.

With guests Francisco Costa and Molly Sims, the judges awarded what I thought were the best looks, but they eliminated one of my favorite designers. I'm bummed, but my heart will go on. What did you think of the outcome?

The Office, "New Leads": Best Lines of the Night and Video!

The sales guys at Dunder Mifflin have let their positions go to their heads on this week's The Office, and the rest of the staff (especially Michael) is not too pleased. Jim is on his BlackBerry, Andy has a Bluetooth - so wait, Michael Scott's employees actually work? What happened to our loveable goof-offs?! No sign of them here, as everyone appears to be running off dollar signs.

So how do you rein in a spoiled child? Michael's theory is to withhold (read: literally hide, as in a scavenger hunt) expensive sales leads to regain his authority - which, of course, goes wrong. The episode has a few funny exchanges worth mentioning, although overall, I found the storyline to just be okay. Check out the quotes I liked, and then add your favorites in the comments!

Michael: "Screw you, Halpert. You know, it's not easy getting excited about stuff. You know how you felt when you thought you had seen Roger Clemens."
Jim: "At the Yankees game, yeah."
Michael: "Well, it wasn't him."
Jim: "I have better reason to believe that...you're right. You're right. Well, you're not right, because Johnny Depp in your condo complex?"
Michael: "I know. It also explains why the name on his mailbox was M. Shyamalan."
Jim: "M. Night Shymalan?"
Michael thinks he sees Johnny Depp in his apartment complex - which is, of course, ridiculous, as Jim is the first to point out. Really, Michael, Johnny Depp? Jim is usually right about most things, so perhaps you want to believe him on this one.

"Salesman is king. As the best salesman, I am king of kings. Oh, you say Jesus is king of kings. Well, what does that say to you about how I think about myself?"-Dwight
Dwight will stop at nothing to get his hands on the expensive sales leads, even if it means, say, going to the landfill to search for a needle in a haystack (the so-called "needle" being one lead's info). I have to say that the fake green screen/backdrop for the landfill is incredibly obvious, but I was still entertained by watching Michael and Dwight get into a lovers' quarrel, which doesn't happen every day. Even watching them kick around the giant-sized spool was worth a chuckle or two.
Kelly: "You know, maybe if the salesmen weren't acting like a bunch of stuck up losers, maybe this day wouldn't be so bad. Did you ever think of that?"
Jim: "I have new baby pictures."
Kelly: "Don't use your cute baby to make us like you."
Jim: "She was wearing a onesie."
Jim tries to ease relations between his sales side and the rest of the office (in this case, Kelly and Oscar), but it appears the damage has already been done. Don't you hate it when people use their child against you? Evil, Jim. Not that Jim is totally to blame; I'd bet that onesie is pretty cute.
Michael: "You know what I should have been doing? I should have been out at bars, finding my soulmate, finding my wife, making babies."
Dwight: "Nice babies you're making with the floosies at the bars."
Michael: "That's my wife you're talking about, man!"
Dwight: "Your made-up wife who doesn't exist?"
The verbal brawl between Dwight and Michael at the dumpster continues, with Michael coming up with excuses for why he hasn't settled down yet. The two eventually make up (thanks in part to a giant old beanbag chair), but the whole back-and-forth raised a semi-interesting point - will Michael ever get married? What do you think?

TV Tonight: FlashForward Returns With a 2-Hour Episode

After an extra-long hiatus and a slew of production issues, FlashForward finally returns tonight with a new episode. The last time we saw the crew, Mark resigns from the FBI after being told that he'll be the one to shoot his partner, Demetri. Mark's wife Olivia grows closer with her would-be lover Lloyd, just before Lloyd admits to the world that he caused the blackout and is kidnapped. Mark and Demetri's colleague, Janis, decides to actively try to get pregnant (as she sees in her flash), and Demetri's fiancee, Zoey, realizes that she's slated to attend Demetri's funeral in the future.

The show's had a bit of a rocky start, so I'm hoping the second half will really tie things together - FlashForward is going to need it if it wants to get a second season pickup. Right now the outlook is not exactly stellar, but I'll still be showing the support (plus, I'm just dying to know how many of the visions actually come true). Will you be tuning in?

Was the Right Contestant Voted Off American Idol?

Now that American Idol is down to the top 12, there's only one contestant getting the boot each week. The bottom three - Lacey, Paige, and Tim - wasn't a big shocker, but I do think that Tim's looks may have helped him squeak by this week. In the end, Lacey was the first casualty of the single-elimination round. Do you think the right contestant was voted off?

High Society's Tinsley Mortimer Talks Reality, Outrageous Comments, and Bad Behavior

Did you catch last week's premiere of High Society? On the latest reality show set among the rich, Tinsley Mortimer is the girl in the center - an NYC socialite going through a public divorce with a cast of outrageous friends, enemies, and frenemies around her.

I got to chat with Tinsley about the show and upcoming episodes today - and of course, her response to the wildly offensive behavior of costars Jules Kirby and Paul Johnson Calderon.

On controversial friends Jules and PJC:
Look, nobody said that these were my best friends, obviously. There are people on the show that I'm closer with than others. Paul is somebody that I've known for years - he used to date my former husband's brother - he is like that, but he's actually really funny and he just kind of amps it up and plays it up. With or without the cameras, he's going to do those sort of things. But he just kind of likes the attention; he's just kind of playing and being kind of frivolous and careless and those things. He's a fun guy and I don't spend so much time with him all the time, but I do see him out a lot at night and he can be fun.

Jules - obviously that [Kirby's use of the N-word in the premiere] was tremendously shocking. I didn't see any of that stuff because I wasn't there when they were filming it, so to hear her comments is outrageous. And of course I've never been around her when she's ever said anything like that, but I would never tolerate that. Again, I'm friends with her through my sister, I have spent nights out with her, but I've never heard her say that. She did, in fact, say those things, and it's not accepted; it's really shocking and horrible. I think you'll see that the show doesn't tolerate her behavior either, and she will inevitably face the consequences of her behavior.

On why villainess Devorah Rose dislikes her:
Devorah came on the show and started to say a lot of things that are completely untrue. Of course that's going to cause tension and drama, and it was completely shocking to me. I was never friends with her and certainly now never will be after the things that she said. But it's difficult - to come out on television and lie about somebody . . . I really don't know why she did it, I have no idea.
On whether we'll see more of her boyfriend, Prince Casimir, and why he freaked out in the first episode:
I don't want to spoil anything, but you will see him a bit. It's crazy - it's weird to see, on a reality show, the cameras being referenced, because usually you want them to be behind the scenes, of course. And he is very uncomfortable with the cameras - when they got too close, he started to freak out. I was also completely shocked, I remember being there at the time and being so shocked by his behavior, but then watching it, I was floored. I can't even believe how he behaved, it was crazy. You will see him, you will see him a bit more.
On what viewers can look forward to this season:
My mom becomes this crazy character that says a lot of things that are upsetting to me, and you'll see a lot more of that. There's Jules, God, she's yelling at the housekeeper at the hotel where she lives with my sister - shocking. We'll see what happens with me in Paris. And certainly there's some girl fights, and some drinks getting thrown, some other crazy stuff. But it's not all about the craziness - there's other fun moments, fashion moments, and all that. It is a cutthroat world and people are always trying to get in top and it creates a lot of situations that are pretty dramatic.
