Who are the Top TV Icons of All Time?

What names come to mind when I say the words "television icon"? Dick Clark? Mary Tyler Moore? Kermit the Frog?

Those three - and 97 others - have made the list of the 100 greatest TV icons of all time, as declared by Entertainment Weekly and TV Land. The top 50 will be counted down in a TV Land special that premieres this Friday.

At first glance, the list - especially the top 10 or 15 - looks pretty good. I can't argue with Johnny Carson getting the No. 1 spot, and I'm pleased that the top 10 is almost perfectly balanced between the genders: five men, four women, and one cartoon (Homer Simpson).

But there are a few curiosities. John Stamos hits the list at No. 90, but Bob Saget doesn't rate a mention despite his years as both Danny Tanner and the host of America's Funniest Home Videos? No Big Bird or other Sesame Street characters? No Star Trek faces, not even Leonard Nimoy or LaVar Burton (whom, I'd argue, deserves a spot for Reading Rainbow alone)? It also seems like a bit of a cop-out to lump the casts of In Living Color and the original Saturday Night Live together while limiting themselves to one cast member from Melrose Place, Friends, and Beverly Hills, 90210. And I wonder how Miss Piggy feels about being passed over for Kermie.

Memorably Geeky Super Bowl Commercials

Being scholars of the empirical battle known as Star Wars, naturally our favorite commercial during last year's Super Bowl game was Volkswagen's now-classic Darth Vader commercial. The TV ad showed, through a geeky lens, that not just extreme sports or models are needed to sleekly highlight a product. Beyond the mini-Darth spot, last year's game had its share of geek-approved commercials. Were these your favorite, too?

Announcing the Winners of the 2012 People's Choice Awards!

The people have spoken! The People's Choice Awards have all been handed out after fans voted for their favorites in categories for movies, TV, and music. It was no surprise that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 was a big winner since it was the last chance for the wizarding series, and vampires from both the big and small screens also got their chance to come onstage. The Vampire Diaries' Nina Dobrev won for favorite TV drama actress, and though Robert Pattinson may have lost favorite movie actor, he accepted the award for Water for Elephants for favorite drama.

Check Out the 2012 People's Choice Nominations Before the Show Airs Tonight!

The People's Choice Awards are tonight, so now's your chance to get a good look at who's up for the trophies. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is dominating the movie categories, especially since there was no Twilight film eligible for this year's awards (though Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson still earned nods because they appeared in other movies). Vampires are still big at the PCAs, at least for the TV categories - The Vampire Diaries and its stars are all over this list. On the subject of the small screen, the awards have brought in another distinction for television: network shows and cable series are now separated (and fan favorite Game of Thrones pops up for its first season).

You'll be able to watch the results when the show airs tonight, and remember: we are LIVE from the red carpet and backstage throughout the show! The live show starts at 5 p.m. PST/ 8 p.m. EST, and you can watch us here.

Gloria Steinem Thinks Kim Kardashian Is Wasting Her Life

We chatted with Gloria Steinem last night at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards and found out what the feminist icon thinks about everything from equal pay to reality TV. When we asked Gloria - who famously said "we're becoming the men we wanted to marry" - what she thinks about all the attention given to the short-lived marriage of Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries, she said: "It's a waste of air time. It's a waste of those two young peoples' lives." Gloria said that the public wouldn't mind if the media started ignoring reality TV stars, although she didn't address why the shows are so popular in the first place.

Gloria, who was honored with a lifetime achievement award, also argued that the battle for women's rights is still not half over. She told us, "We're about 40 years into 100 years of change." A top issue for her is equal pay, since women still don't make as much as men. As for the biggest advancement she's seen? "Reproductive freedom, because that's the single most important influence on women's health and education." Watch for yourself as Gloria shares her thoughts in the video below.

The 2012 People's Choice Awards nominations were announced at the Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills this morning. Busy Philipps donned a green dress and Julianne Hough stepped out in white for the occasion. Nominee Kaley Cuoco was there to call out some of this year's honorees, as was Elisha Cuthbert, Sharon Osbourne, and Joe Jonas. Some of the nominees in the movie categories include Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, Bridesmaids, and Moneyball. On the small screen, The Good Wife, Modern Family, and Fringe are all in the running for awards.

This year's show should be especially star-studded since Gwyneth Paltrow is up for favorite TV guest star, Beyoncé Knowles could take home favorite female artist, and George Clooney is nominated for movie icon.
